The Hardest Tame of All

So Wednesday night I had my post 4.03a taming spree.
I hunted down Zora in her underground lair.
I summoned Gezzarak and persisted through the repeated stuns.
I got four mates to rampage through Blackwing Lair until we got to Chromaggus (prist shield just before pull = win)
Then I went after the Bonepicker Felfeeder in Blasted Lands. These guys fly quite high, but I discovered that if I leapt about from hilltop to hilltop I could briefly get them in range of a pull.
Of course, they're 55 and I'm 80. Result: several attempts later I'm standing in the middle of little green piles of dead feathers as I don't have a shot small enough not to kill them.
So: hearth to Ogrimmar. Go to white weapons vendor and buy a crappy little 9dps bow. Portal to Blasted Lands.
Still too much damage.
Soooooo... this was why there was an orc hunter leaping about the hills of the Blasted Lands last night stark naked and wielding a tiny, tiny bow shooting at birdies. With the title "the Kingslayer" just so Arthas turns in his grave.

Go naked. Just strip every bit of your armor off, get your 9DPS bow, and try that way.

Barring that, you may want to try with a Windserpent. Their lightning breath attack actually has a longer range than most shots, and it does 0 damage. Put the serpent on 'passive', have it attack and try to hit one, and then immediately tell it to 'follow'. You should be able to get some healing aggro and dismiss the pet without losing the Felfeeder then.

Just a suggestion!

i always found distracting shot good for plucking birds out of the sky, and off cliffs. just have to remember not to auto shot straight after. ;)

I think I mentioned it elsewhere, but check the southern beach - I'm positive I saw some low-flying felfeeders there.

Concussive also works :D

I know the feeling, I'm currently in a XR guard's uniform bouncing around Ashenvale for the same reason

For both distracting and concussive shot, if you want to be certain not to shoot a regular shot, a stopattack macro is useful. (I have had it for distracting since TBC because of chain trapping and not wanting to break my trap right as the target hits it. It's always a handy macro to have.)

This should do it:

Code: Select all

#showtooltip Distracting Shot
/cast Distracting Shot
/stopattack
(I haven't fiddled with this macro since TBC but I'm fairly certain it's as straightforward as that.

You do have a shot that does 0 damage, Distracting Shot, I used it on the Seagulls in 1k Needles just fine :)
