It's not just the attack animation the monkey is missing....

I tamed one of the deadmine monkeys.

I was leveling him up in random heroics. I noticed that his damage was WAY lower than I was expecting. I popped open recount and looked at the breakdown for Mr TrunkMonkey.

He was landing wolverine bites, he was landing smacks, he was landing NO melee auto-attacks at all. So I opened up a ticket about this as a bug. It takes three days and I get a form letter "this is working as intended" response. I send back a "really? you mean that one pet of all of mine has no auto melee attack and that's somehow intentional?". I also noted this fact on a thread about the monkey pets over on the battle.net forums.

Within 10 minutes I had a GM wanting to talk to me. Who then said that the animation was missing but the attacks were happening. I then referred him to recount output, and told him he could come to stormwind to watch my monkey stand next to the target dummy I was telling him to attack and do nothing (I turned off all automatic special attacks) while I stared at the combat log showing no activity at all. After some time he comes back and says that this is a known issue and they're looking into it. There was no real response for my follow up about why I was told it was working as intended, and why he had just told me it was just the attack animations missing.

I then go to update the monkey thread on the official forums with this news and guess what, the monkey thread had been deleted.

Curiouser and curiouser...

Which would you like a screen shot of? The combat logs? Or the chat with the GM?

lol, ya its a known issue with the pickaxe/deadmines monkeys. if you still have an empty stable slot, go tame one from STV, they work fine.

also, the way they "hold" the pickaxe looks out of wack. they're not even holding it. its just sticking out of the back of their hand..

After reading here and on the "official" forums I tested with an STV monkey. You were right, It looks like it's just a bug with the deadmines pick axe monkeys.

I had the same thing happen to me, i tamed a monkey, but when i sent it to kill some other monkeys in deadmines it would just stand near them with idle animation, produce combat sounds and do damage but it wouldn't move

Hm. Sounds like the left hand forgot to tell the right hand what it's doing. Nice going there on Blizz's part.

Well at least the Blizz CS team knows now, eh? ;) And they are aware of it in the dev department, so that's good. Thanks for the info!

I believe I skimmed over that monkey thread on the official forums prior to its deletion. At the time, I was glad I had preferred one of the Stranglethorn monkeys without the pickaxe. I fear the fix will have to wait for that "first patch after Cataclysm" that's been mentioned in the past, though...this doesn't sound like a coding error a hotfix or server restart can rectify.
