Professions in Cata...

Well, it's time for that discussion. While we don't have all the final details, it's close enough that we have a pretty good idea of what the professions will look like.
And I'm not thrilled. Engineering has been nerfed, and Slick is a miner/engineer. Engineering is loosing some of it's "mote" collecting capability, and, the rocket belt has been nerfed to where they are too risky to use (chance of failure is too high, and if they fail, you can wipe your raid). That leaves engineering with the only really engineering buff being the BOP helm and leveling trinket. The glove enchants aren't good compared to what other professions have.
Slick will likely stay a miner, since I simply "get" mining, and can make good money with it, at least early in the expansion. Perhaps I should change engineering to JC. I might hang onto engineering until the helm is passed over by raid loot.
So, what are your thoughts on hunter professions for Cata?...

I love my Engineering, but I'm not one to care about which profession makes me the most money, or which is the most critical to have. I like the fun gadgets of being an Engineer, so I'm keeping it for sure. ^^

Engineering has a
remote looting tool. That's pretty amazing.
I'm sticking with alchemy and engineering still. I know I could do "better" than alchemy, but Kalli's always been an alchemist. I do not, surprisingly, miss herbalism compared to engineering.

I've never really picked professions for money, so I don't mind so much if it's being 'nerfed.' Besides, the things you listed I haven't so much used anyway XD
Also, looting from far away? Finally, whenever I kill something on a hill and I can't reach it, I can still reach it!

Well, other that Jeeves and Mollee, I'm not sure I use any of the gadgets anymore.. well, ok, parachute cloak too. I wish Blizz had given engineering something to replace making ammo. I made a lot of money off of that.
What bums me the most is that the new extractor is limited to one kind of "volatile". If Volatile air is as lame as Primal water is now, I may just change out of protest. Time to check some of those crafting patterns and see what the mats are.

Update: It's worse than I thought. Volatile Air is the least used of the elements, going by the patterns listed on MMO-Champ. Only saving grace might be if engineers are the only ones that really can collect it.
NOTE: Remember, you Electrostatic condenser only works if you have another gathering profession. If you have engineering plus another crafting profession, you are outta luck.
Fire will be the Volatile of choice. It's used in 65 items. Earth is in 37 items, Water is in 46, Life is in 36, Air is in 26.
Sigh... might be time to think about a different crafting profession.

I'm hoping engineering will get a Wormhole Azeroth to go with the northrend one...that thing gets used alot by me (the long cd kinda sucks tho)
I mostly did engineering for the fun, random stuff, I never really cared about it's pvp or pve applications. Plus the new pets...I always wanted a pet Fel Reaver!
Sadly, I'll probably drop LW since it has nothing fun, and doesn't look like it ever will. Same with BS. Probably change to alchemy cause I like a lot of the pots (the more random, the better!) and turning into a dragon is way cool.
My new toons tho will probably just be farmers...mostly likely mining and herb.

LW does provide the best dps boost with the new bracer enhancement. But yeah, it isn't "fun".
Sadly they are removing much of the fun from engineering as well.

I have been planning on dropping Skinning to pick up Engineering instead, but I'm still feeling a bit uncomfortable about being entirely reliant on the AH (or alts) for mats. I'd consider dropping Leather Working if it wasn't for all the rare patterns I've accumulated over the years.

As my bf has reminded me "what are you going to use those for?"

I know, I know. >_< It pains me as well, especially when such great lengths were gone to for certain patterns and such. It's a matter of letting go of the past to move forward....and it's still hard. -_-

The engineer will be able to make a goblin BBQ ... grilled fish and hamburgers for everyone !!!
It will look like the one in the small camp near sludge fen up in the northen barrens.
Engineers also get new recipes for bows and x-bows for lvl 81 and lvl 85 wich are pretty nice.
The also get two recipes for minipets - "world destroyer" wich looks like a mechanized rabbit, and a miniature Doomwalker.

Engineering also has its own gems and gem sockets.
