Some New Friends <3

So today I got into the car with my parents, my brother, his girlfriend and my boyfriend and drove 1.5 hours to a large city. Why? To visit a reptile and exotic pet expo of course! I havn't been to one since I was very little, so I was really excited to go to another. I was trying to convince my mom to let me get some sort of lizard or snake because I have an empty tank in my bedroom from when Chomper Cornellius (my cornsnake) passed away a few months ago, but she kept saying 'no no no'. We already have lots of pets, and I came to terms that I would just be looking at cool things today and not buying. :)

There were TONS of beautiful snakes, lizard, geckos, frogs, sugar gliders, spiders, scorpions, millipedes, turtles.. well... everything, there! It was a lot of fun walking around and looking at all the animals, and squeeing to my boyfriend about how friggin CUTE everything is.

Anyways, so I'm walking around wishing how I had money and a tank big enough for a bearded dragon or a tortoise, and I came across some Halloween Crabs. They were only $15. Bright red legs, purple claws, a black body and white and orange markings. SO CUTE! My boyfriend and I tracked down my mom to ask (because its polite, right?) and she cringed and said how they gross her right out. Well I ended up buying one anyways. His name is Henry Broxigar, aka Henry-Brox. :)

AND as a bonus, my parents ended up caving and buying two crested geckos, which they have wanted for a long time. They currently have no names, but they are both female are both ADORABLE! One has a big wide head with beautiful yellow skin and little dark spots, and the other has a light greyish body with red markings, and she turns darker at night. They are beautiful.

All three (and my turtle William, who was relocated to a bigger tank tonight) have been adjusting nicely to their new home. The tanks are only partially finished and we are going shopping tomorrow night for more accessories. The geckos are currently hanging upside down in their terrarium and Henry is chilling in a little burrow he dug. :)

I just wanted to share my story. No pictures yet because my internet is being dumb.. but I will take some nicer ones when my good camera is charged and post them!

It's been a good day!! :D

Those sound amazing! What's the species name, just Halloween Crab?

I really should look in to getting a few reptiles. I really miss my snake.

I almost went to an expo when I was getting a new corn snake, but decided to buy one from the local reptile store/breeder. Maybe I'll catch a future one--they sound like a lot of fun, even if you're just window shopping.

Wow, what an awesome trip! I am envious. :D I've been wanting a pet lizard for a long time (think I finally decided on a bearded dragon) but just haven't gotten around to it. I hear they make great pets though, and it sounds like your new babies are already having a good time.

Can't wait to see pictures!

Looking forward to the pictures!

I've been avoiding the expos for the past two years. It's just too hard for me not to bring something home.

Yes, the crab is just called a Halloween Crab. :) So far he is doing good. I mixed some mushrooms, bananas, shrimp, beans, carrots, corn calcium tablets and brussel sprouts and used the slap chop to cut them into itty bitty pieces for him. I froze them in little 1tsp 'cubes' to thaw out once a day. So far this amount seems to be working for him which is good! He enjoys his tank so far, lots of burrowing in the dirt and moving it around. He is really messy with his food though (leaves a trail back to his burrow..) and doesn't like having the light on or when people get too close to the tank. But I don't mind! He seems healthy and happy. ^.^

The same goes for the two (still nameless) geckos. Their terrarium just has one real potted plant and a few pieces of driftwood/fake plants for now, my parents are waiting a bit before they set it up with real plants. They are settling in nicely and seem very happy in their new home! The only problem is that the one hurt one of her hind legs. I noticed she was dragging it while I had her out, which is a problem since her little claws/sticky feet pads get stuck when she drags it, which could hurt her more. She is still using it to climb but prefers not to walk with it, so we aren't sure what up, probably a pulled muscle. My poor girl!

Since Petopia still wont let me upload anything here, I put some pictures up on my photography dA page of the geckos. You can really see their personalities in the pics! I will get a pic of my crab next time I am at home with my good camera and he stops being camera shy. :)

Photos of the geckos are labeled 'Crested 1' and 'Crested 2'. :)
