Hi there
I have a few q's I hope you can help me with.
I had a lovely scarlet tracking hound that has now turned into a dog- red mastiff to be exact, gave me a shock! However it doesnt have the spec ability of lockjaw and despite two in game tickets which got no answers it still has not got the lockjaw ability. Anyone else had this??
And does anyone know is the stormwind croc that used to lurk in the canals now a rare and is retired? ( I have one and it is cool)
and lastly what pets are ppl using for raids, dungeons, leveling and pvp??
Thanks

A) Since your pet turned from a 'hyena' into a 'hound', it may have had the abilities wiped. Try untraining it and re-training. I'm at least assuming that it's more than level 20 (unless dogs get Lockjaw at a higher level).
B) It always was a rare. Retired? From the number of marks on Wowhead's map, I would say this beast is still around. It's just that it dies very quickly, being as it's Stormwind. People see 'rare', and think 'loot pinata'.
C) For raiding and dungeons, I generally check the makeup of the party, and pick what pets are replacing needed buffs, giving Heroism the 'top slot' with my Core Hound. If all buffs/debuffs are covered, then I tend to take the following lineup: Core Hound (just in case), Spirit Beast (Ferocity pet + emergency heals), Worm (AOE for groups), and any pet that isn't max level (for leveling). If all pets are max level, then I'll take whomever I feel like showing off.
For PVP, I prefer my crocolisk-hydra. I like slows better than pins due to the 100% uptime.
For leveling, I take whatever pet makes me happy.

I like the Carrion birds, because noone seems to remember to demo shout. So the 10% damage reduction is un-competed for and definitely helps. Plus I think it's ferocity, so good dps pet too. If ur high enough lvl, I recommend the glowy transparent two headed one from outlands (with the trick to keep the glow effect).

Yeah, the hyena change erked a few people who've had them for awhile. Luckly theres the Rare Red Hyena in Tanaris.
Pets should learn their ability at lv 20. as was said, try wiping thier telants and see if that resets it.
Each person has thier own likes and dislikes for pets to bring and for what. I'd suggest using whatever pet you want since they can all bring something to the party.
If your more hardcore raiding, then look at your raidgroup make-up and bring a pet that can fill in for a needed buff. Ie, no shammy, bring corehound for bloodlust.

Don't forget the Uldum hyenas - they aren't rare, but you need to be a higher level.
