No. Do you also get upset when you see people using their left index finger to pick their nose when they could clearly use their right index finger?

Not the same. We are the only class that CAN name our pets, and the only class with permanent PETS (mages and locks, I believe, are "minions"). To not name your pet displays a kind of coldness. It bothers me to see hunters that see their pets only as a DPS meter padding.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Not everyone sees the pixels the same way we do. To some people, pets are nothing more than tools and an ends to a means. You don't really have a right to judge whether or not someone names their pet. I'm not fond of it either, but you never know if that's the name they chose for their pet and how they know the pet.

Well, then prepare to be bothered.
I have a bunch of new pets, none of which are named.
YET.
But if you were to see me walk by in Orgrimmar, your little pet peeve would be set in motion and you would be annoyed at "that Hunter who doesn't have the decency to name his pet".
Except I haven't found a good name for these pets yet. Which is why they are as yet still unnamed.
Remember, as Confucius said:
Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things.

For the last 3 days I think I've had a named pet out maybe 10% of my ingame time. Doesn't mean I give a crap about DPS, just means I haven't found the right name, or I'm not sure if I want to keep the pet. Considering my troll huntress has a hyena in her stable that just celebrated his 6th birthday I don't think I can be accused of being cold...just takes some time to pick the right name. I guess I'm still used to the "old days" where the only way to change a pet's name was to retame it. In the loyalty days I gave it a name before it hit the last level, but now I don't have a timer.
There are some hunters who look at their pet as a weapon to be upgraded when the next uber pet comes around, but it's their nickle. Not everyone gets as attached to pixels as we do. And for the record, I usually pick with my right index finger, which is weird because I'm left-handed.

And how do you know that those pets will never be named?
I myself often need to "get to know" my new pet before I find a name I really like. And even if I come up with a name before the tame I still don't name my pet immediately. There were times I thought I had the perfect name for a future pet, but once it stood next to me I realised that the name doesn't work at all. So I run around with my pet for a while, just calling it the name I came up with in my head, until I'm sure that name fits it before I officially name it. I guess that's a precaution left from the time we couldn't rename our pets, and I don't feel like changing it because I like that method.
As for the number of unnamed pets increasing, that could have something to do with bigger stables. A lot of people go out on taming sprees, getting several pets at once. And it just takes a while to come up with names for all of them. Also, people now are more likely to test out pets because due to the extended stables they have room for it. So you see more people with pets that they may not keep and won't find a name for until they're sure.
Bottom line, a lot of the unnamed pets you see will most likely get named eventually once the hunters are ready to do so. So you really shouldn't worry about random strangers with unnamed pets because it's certainly not a must to name a pet instantly. Nothing wrong with taking your time.
As for hunters really never naming their pets, I don't understand it, but it certainly is none of my business and I couldn't care less.

Err, as I recall, there was a thread similar to this a while back.... Many folks couldn't seem to play nicely and the thread got locked. Maybe we should avoid posting subjects similar to this in the future? Just a suggestion, since the last one spiraled out of control.

I actually made a roleplay decision on my forsaken hunter to not name his diseased or undead pets. I like that roleplay that sees them as "Bear" and "Wolf" instead of "Diseased Bear / Wolf". Kind of a subtle compliment for a beast only ever seen as a carrier for his or her disease or undeath.
(My main orc has named all his pets, using a variety of reasons and ideas)

For me, I had a whole stable full of pets without names for that exact reason: they were all caught in the wave of 'new pet YAY!'. I only named them just recently, mostly because I didn't feel comfortable going into Cata without having them have names. However, I take days and weeks sometimes to find the right name for pets.

Maybe this is a chance to redeem ourselves? ;p (offtopic @ your sig) reading "your an idiot" always makes me groan inside.
On topic:
Before pets got a starting level bump, I NEVER named them until they hit my level even if I (thought I) knew exactly what they were going to be called. Part of my brain knows those renaming scrolls exist, but another part is very insistent about it being important to make SURE the pet "fits" his/her name before I make it official.
As to people who don't have any intention of naming their pets ... I prefer somebody who acknowledges that what we see as a furry companion is nothing more than a meat-eating DoT to another critter named "lawlpwndu" or the like.

You know some people actually roll the class to do what Hunters do... DPS? Right?
And some people irl just call their animals by cat/dog/bird. But they love them all the same. For the most part. Also didn't it occur to you two that perhaps they might not have found a right name yet? Or are just testing the creature out and didn't want to waste a name on it? Or perhaps merely 'Dog' or 'Cat' was enough for them?
It's not as if they're bots with BOARS named BOAR, right?
Really the only times you should get miffed is when the pet is named like
Fukyou which you then report.
I admit I got tired of wolves named wolf while leveling my drood Coal, but eh what could you do.

It took me a week and a half to decide to name my Huhuran "Empress".
"Princess" was reserved.
Sorry.

Yeah. I have a cat I never will name because he's just that. Cat. I even tried to give him a name, but hated it because it wasn't Cat.
However, if given the chance to nickname my demons...I'd agree in a heartbeat. Then Maxwell would officially be recognized as Maxwell in the game, and I would be a lot happier.

/agree
But, I'm the same as many here. I often don't name mine right away...either the name I'd thought I had didn't really fit the pet I had intended it for, or I don't have a name yet and am waiting until I get one that's "right". I can spend what is normally hours trying to come up with a name I think is good...sometimes it takes much longer than that.
My husband has a hunter as well...and he comes up with names for pets in like 2 seconds...which always irritates me...even though they're good names (possibly because they're good names!!), and it takes him such little effort!! lol He's got a swamp jag that's coming up on her 6th birthday soon, named Rayne, and he likes her more than his actual hunter I think.
I don't really have any issue with people not naming their pets though....for whatever reason they have. I used to have a cat (a real cat, not in game) named Dog.
*edit for typo, yay sleepiness! I re-read it like 4 times before hitting "post" lol*

I have not named any of my new tames, as I have not thought of names yet

Back when we had 3 pets, then 5 pets, it wasn't that hard to come up with names. But now, 25 pets, or more if you have at least another hunter, is a real pain in the ass. Just on my main hunter it took me at least 5 hours of searching and reading to try and find good names for the ones I hadn't named yet.

I usually name my pets on the spot, and if I can't think of something I usually stand right where I tamed it until figure it out. If not, I sometimes abandon it, or stick it in the deep stables.
