I tamed one of the burning boars, and found a couple odd glitches after the fact. First, when I returned to the login screen the image of the boar next to my toon was HUGE, then it was unusually small on next login. Then, I hearthed to find that my pet had disappeared into the ethers (my poor friend had to reroll another Tauren because he'd turned the quest in out of habit). I made my way back to Mulgore from Stormwind, and we went through the process again. This time, I hearthed closer, and the boar was there, no problem.

I enjoyed 2 glorious days with my new buddy "Scrapple," and then one day I was in a Burning Crusade instance and he just disappeared. No dying, no dismiss and can't re-summon, no stables involved anywhere; just gone. The thing is, the same happened with 2 other pets. The first was Lone Hunter (with sword-in-head) but the second wasn't even rare, so at this point I fear to ever enter BC instances with any pet that I've put a lot of work into taming. Now I just pick up "rent-a-pets" while leveling, or tame in-instance which is dreadful since many players know nothing about taming and summarily ignore all of my instructions.

Anyway, I'm shelving my Echyakee, Ashtail, Azzere the Skyblade, Ghost Saber, or even my new green tiger until I get some clarity on this. My main question is, has anyone else had their pets irretrievably disappear after The Shattering patch went into effect? For all your sake, I hope that this bug is specific to Burning Crusade instances. Another possibility is that the gods of Blizz are punishing me for the burning boar trick but forgot to stop deleting my pets after that.

Thanks for the warm welcome! An update to my earlier post: a GM has confirmed that pet disappearances have been occcuring, it happens most often in BC zones (but may not be limited to them), and that WoW can and will recover the pets. They have not fixed all the new Cata-related bugs yet, one of which is that pets like Scrapple occasionally go "into the ether"--spontaneously combust, if you will. The data representing their existence is still "out there" in the stream and will ultimately be recovered, probably to appear in the character's stable later. This just leaves me with the task of explaining why my pet boar is on fire and my wolf has a sword through his head, in case anyone asks...

6 pets have now spontaneously disappeared since my first entry. It seems to only happen in combat situations with lots of mobs.. most recently, in the Stratholme section where about 40 weak adds arrive in quick succession once you beat the boss. Spider RIP.

That's terrifying. I don't even want to get on my hunter until this is fixed.

Wow, I haven't had this happen at all, nor had I heard of it. Perhaps this warrants its own topic? I completely missed it here.

Just started playing again yesterday, and am leveling at a snail pace. So, I'd potentially be willing to try and get a similar occurrence to happen to a trash pet (thinking of doing another H Sethekk Hals run, and potentially some other BC heroics that I have yet to attempt soloing). But let me clarify this first; only your summoned pet is at risk of disappearing? I've only got room for one true trash pet that I won't mind disappearing.

About the last sentence: you need not worry. We've got three petitions spread across the two official forums (US & EU) that are all asking about the taming method that you used. Neither of the pets you mentioned possesses a beneficial buff - The Lone Hunter has a purely cosmetic/RP buff, and the flaming boar has no buff or debuff at all. Hence, while they are certainly curious, their existence in general isn't being hidden from Blizzard.

It sounds like this could be a specific glitch pet or specific pet disappearing glitch as well the mention was Ghost Hunter and Scrapple was a burning boar if I'm not mistaken. I've run about half a dozen ramparts run and a Blood Furance on Lime and none of her pets disappeared.

True, except for the fact that the second pet to disappear was fairly ordinary - not even a rare. Hence why I wish to test this.

Lone hunter is still a new mob tho; he's not OCJ he's a new skin, remember and Op afaik never stated what the second pet was that wasn't even a rare. But 2/3 skins so far have been Burning Boar- New Cata mob, Lone Hunter- new cata mob. If the other common is a new and mean entirely new mob not a reskin like Spite and Grunter, then we have the problem nailed down.

But that's the thing- most dungeons HAVE lots of mobs, and I've had several instances of big and bad pulls in ramparts, on Lime, as of these pets mysteriously disappearing. And not once has any of them disappeared. Sure, Lemon died in Blood Furnace, but she never disappeared. She died saving the healer thanks to a pull happy hunter.

And as I said what are the pets? So far we know lone hunter, burning boar and other. There are also new spider mobs- IE the bone spiders and others. So again, what is going on? Can the op actually list the missing pets as best he/she is able to instead of just saying pets are disappearing?

Because if pets are dissappearing in BC AND Azeroth dungeons, then they could in theory be disappearing from CATA and NORTHREND dungeons.

So Ajna, as much as this is distressing would you please list, specifically, what the pets were. IE specific species, new species, named mobs, what.

Pets did tend to disappear during the beta... but then they would usually come back - although they are typically hidden by something else you may have tamed in their stead.

I must have had 50 odd pets during the beta because of that bug! Can't access the second level of pets tho, would have to dismiss the one on top - wait a bit and see a new icon appear in that slot.

It may be unrelated, but it certainly sounds the same!
Try moving a pet on top of the slot that housed one of the now missing pets, log off and back on, then drag that pet away again leaving the slot empty - see if anything appears after a short space of time.

I havent experienced any dissapearing pets however I have been getting A LOT of "you do no have a pet" errors when trying to call a pet, even when there are 4 pets with me. Loging out/in usually fixes it.

Not really helpful to the OP, but I've had issues with the "you don't have a pet" thing when I only had one pet in my active stable, that I fixed by moving that pet to something other than the top slot.

I would make a ticket. This issue affected alot of hunters in BETA. Just keep slots open for those missing pets, so when the come back from their vacation you didin't sold their slot to a new pet.
