Hay so i tamed this guy the other day and i have seen lots of posts about people using flasks and what not to tame him. Now i dident do any quests after i got 81 i went straight to his spawn point to find him and tride to tame him with just my normal gear.
He hit me for 10k so i though ok i will try again.
I then used my core hound and tame and tbh i was about a second away from taming him then died.
Then finally i asked a pala to use fire aura he dident heal or anything just aura and his 10k tick went to 5k and was tamed without a corehound.
Honestly i think people are going OTT with all the flasks and stuff im 100% sure it can be done at lvl 81 with just eather a pala fire res aura or maby a fire res pot. Or just any healer.

Yeah I tamed him at lvl 81 with 37k HP and only a Manta Steak and flask of resistance and I only died once so its absolutely possible BUT if you have your heart set for him I think you don't want to risk dying and have him killed or tamed by someone else while you run back and prepare for another go + the planning ahead and gathering mats and preparing is also a part of the hunt for many!

That's the point. Yeah, you can tame him with help from a healer or a pally's aura or whatnot, but there's a big advantage to not having to wait for your guildmate to get there from across the zone. Being prepared for a solo tame means you can tame him as soon as you see him.

Yeah, the deal about the flasks and all of that is that we can't always get help - it boils down to "Can You Do It Alone". Asking for help means the threat of having your "help" kill the mob, or having someone else kill the mob while you wait.

still been wondering, is he still available after doing all the quests in Hyjal?
I have been camping the throne of flame for a while and no sign.

Yes he is, was wondering the same myself but found his corpse not long ago and I did complete the zone.

I agree. To add to this, my personal challenge is: if I can solo-tame.
In my opinion, King Krush (back when we had 20-second base taming speed) was the definitive solo-tame hunter challenge.

I tamed Terrorpene alone earlier this evening. I'm lvl 84 with 76k health unbuffed, at the end of the tame I was left with 4k health. The trick is to pop Deterrence before you start and stack as much haste as you possibly can, also pop a haste flask it helps as well.

First time that I tried to tame Terrorpene I was 83 and was alone. I had 68k hp and mostly gear from random dungeons and he killed me 20 times. I even was able to go back to org and reforged all of my armor for haste and that didn't work either though it did get me a bit closer. So I did some research and the new elixir worked like a charm he only took about half of my life. The Prismatic Elixir. I think I love Terrorpene the most because I had to use a bit of thinking to actually obtain him and he looks so amazing. Hope this info will help anyone that wants him.

Paladns definitely should work. The problem is getting a paladin to you, and quickly at that. Hence, one shouldn't start camping Terrorpene with their taming strategy dependent upon a willing paladin to be nearby unless they have an agreement with a paladin that will quest in the surrounding area while you camp. Barring this, I don't think that flasks, food buffs, and core hounds are over the top at all.

***I'm just sharing this because this is what I've been using for any tame I do. The faster the better *wink*
Stats I had when I solo-tamed Terrorpene at 82: 44461 health, 1082 Haste rating (19.14%), 18K after the tame.
Used these macros:
1. with core hound out and with an empty stable slot:
/cast Ancient Hysteria
/cast Bestial Wrath
/cast Dismiss Pet
2. main taming macro (change the name for your other tames)
/tar Terrorpene
/use Potion of Speed
/cast Deterence
/cast Tame Beast
Shopping list (not sure if this is OTT):
1. Imperial Manta Steak
2. Elixir of Mighty Fortitude
3. Potion of Speed
4. Haste stuff (new green drops and quest rewards)
5. a core hound

After 3 days of camping the spawn site from hitting 81, nipping off to level a bit, then coming back and camping some more....
I GOT HIM!
First of all I had a throwaway core hound for BL.
Then I had a low level on use haste trinket
I also had a prismatic elixir and speed potion (+500 haste)
I also had a macro set up as follows:
/use Potion of Speed
/cast Deterrence
/cast Tame Beast
The tame took 8 seconds (thought it would've been shorter, but didn't need to worry because...) and over that 8 seconds TP's Burning Hatred MISSED me twice, was fully resisted once, then hit me 3 times.
First tick hit me for 4200 Fire Damage (4000 resisted)
Second tick hit me for 3500 (5000 resisted)
Third tick hit me for 7000 (3000 resisted)
14,700 damage over 8 seconds with a starting health pool of 59,100 meant I was in no danger of dying thanks to the prep I'd done.
Definitely worth the effort, he's amazing looking, and he's mine!
Edit: Didn't realise this was QUITE so much of a necro btw, found the thread on google while doing prep

He's a LOT less forgiving to a level 81.

True. xD
I guess the difference is like with Ankha/Magria and if you're naked or not x3

Sort of - a level 81's health pool is a lot smaller than an 84's (especially if the 81 isn't in full Cata gear/resist gear), so those 10k ticks eat up your health pool like crazy. I've done the tame at 81 myself under similar circumstances; had to do both a corehound and outside spirit beast healing to pull it off because my gear was so crappy.

Yeah I did a tame at 81 and even with the extra stuff, I had a sliver of health left.

Yeah at 81 when I first started camping I had 36k health. When I got him at 83 I had jumped to 59k.
Now 84 and starting the Sambas hunt, then Jadefang at 85!

I tamed him at lv 81, without flask, used corehound...took about 11 tries since I was pretty much still in some wrath greens, 11th try I died again, decided to give up, took a break, later while questing in Vash, I went to switch pets, and...wait? turtle...I dont have a turtle?!? Called it out, lol turns out I'd tamed him at the same time I died.

I tried so many times at level 81 and just had to leave him(got him later at lvl 84, I even had a shaman friend with me with totems/hero) I had about 37k health at the time and even had the help of a level 81 paladin.
Simply elixir of mighty speed+potion of speed+deterrence gets me a long way with any tame where lots of damage is going out. Helped me with terrorpene and ghostcrawler.
