So I hear that right after maintenance those pesky hard to find rare pets like Sambas, Terrorpene and Karoma are all up first thing at 11 PST when the game goes live again?

Is this true?

I'm usually at work during this time so never really bothered with it-am home sick today so thought I would check today.

Spent almost 2 months on and off LF Loq and tried this "strategy" many times with no apparent clear advantage to "being there as the server starts"

sry nothing beats good old fashioned NPC-Scan and macro to keep you up while waiting for a drunk WOW god to release your pet into the nether wild

Well thats sad. Ah well. I'll still be camping Terrorpene. Bah not having luck with that guy. Have only seen him as a tamed pet of people running around Hyjal and coming down there to taunt me.

I'm hovering over Madexx's spawn point as we speak, so hopefully when I log in my npcscan will yell at me

It is safe to assume their spawn timer will be "reseted" which doesn't guarantee they will be up since most rare spawns have window timers.

This has been debated for years.

I think the only safe thing to say is; "we don't know exactly how it works".

If you want a rare as pet I think the best thing to do is either set camp or fly by as often you can and just hope for luck!

The servers have been up for over two hours already.... (in the US).

I have heard from more people that the server going down and coming back up usually resets the spawn timers, but who knows... if it reset every rare's time... then there would be no rares up at all right afterwards... but everyone should know that this isn't true.

From what I've heard, it doesn't reset EVERY rare spawn, but only a few. I know some people who have caught rares right after the server came up. Then again, I've heard others circle for the same rares for hours after and found nothing. I might do a quick fly around for Karoma and Terrorpene today.

Well Madexx was killed ten mins before I logged in. *sigh*

And I'm not the only one camping Terror. *sigh*

I suspect the answer is simpler, e.g. that server resets have no direct effect on pet respawns, but if a pet's respawn timer comes up during server downtime, it sits there in limbo until servers are back up - along with every other pet whose respawn activated during that time.

In other words, server downtime kind of gives the rares population a chance to come back, sorta like temporarily declaring an endangered species offlimits to hunting...

LOL! Not a chance, sweetheart. It may reset some but definitely not all and not usually them.

I tamed GC at 5:14am, he respawned exactly 12 hours later (3.5hr after server up). It didn't seem to reset his timer but instead persisted through it. Karoma was tamed at the exact same time (5:14am) unfortunately I did not think to check for her at the 12 hour mark.

From what I've gathered, some respawns are immediate after maintenance, such as the penguin in Northrend, while others are not. I couldn't say if it resets the timer or continues normal times on these, but I'd guess it resets since after extended maintenance I haven't seen the long spawn timer rares up.
