I have a daily routine - I log onto my email and check all the updates to threads I'm active in and then I go to new topics and read the posts I haven't yet, blissfully ignoring anything that shows up grey (because if it's grey I've obviously already read it and posted in it if I had something to say). Lately, I've been wondering why I get so few emails from petopia, just to realise that some of the grey posts under 'view new posts' I've been ignoring are responses to threads I've been posting in.

I double checked my settings, the box to receive emails if someone posts in threads I'm active in is checked. Is anyone else having this problem? If not, how do I fix it? I need my morning petopia fix!!!

I haven't messed with this very much. Is the setting you have set the one under Posting Defaults or are you subscribing to the threads?

I'm looking at User Control Panel -> Board Preferences -> Edit Posting Defaults -> Notify me upon replies by default set to Yes. I'm not sure how I'd subscribe? The forums have always just kept me up to speed, but now it seems kind of random. Perhaps it's not the forums but my email? I'm definitely not going to exclude the possibility that I screwed something up somewhere, it's me and computers after all.

The three possibilities I see are the forum software having a problem, the e-mail server on my end having a problem, and a problem with e-mail on your end. Since two of those are me I'll see what I can find out. You might check your spam folder, but otherwise I'm not sure what you might have done.

I've checked the box you mentioned to see if I can repro the problem.

And since you asked: you can subscribe to a thread by hitting the Subscribe Topic link at the top left of the first post. You can see all your subscriptions in the User Control Panel and you get e-mailed for any new posts on those threads. It should work the same way, except that you can subscribe to a thread you haven't posted in.

Ah, I see the subscription thing now! It's automatically set to subscribed which I assume is because of my settings in the UCP. Anyway, I can try unsubscribing->subscribing to a topic and see if that makes a difference. It's just kind of random, it seems - I'm getting updates to this thread. Technology never doesn't work when you need it to!

Huh! I didn't notice that it automatically subscribes to threads you post in if you have the box checked. Well that should mean that the mechanics for both methods are exactly the same - which should make debugging a little easier.

I abuse the "view your posts" option mercilessly. >_> Works great!
