So, logged in to check on him again, had just about finished sweeping the SE area of the lava pools, when I saw a red dot on my screen aaaannddd now I gots mah flamin turtle!



I'm not sure if I'm the last one here to have gotten him, but if anyone out there is still trying - don't give up!

Here's what I did to prepare for this:

1) Loaded up on cheap green fire protection gear at the AH; I had a piece on almost every armor slot from (character) lvl 67 thru 79 totalling 440 FR, and as much +STA enhancements as I could find giving me about 31k HP. I've heard many say you only need half this much FR... but when I was done I'd taken approx 20k dmg, so it felt like a good investment to me.

2) Tamed a core hound and made myself a "tame prep" macro to cast ancient hysteria - it helps to practice this in a safe place. Once you're sure it's working you can upgrade the macro to also activate a speed potion - I still had my "welcome to level 80" gift potions lying around so I didn't even need to bother with the AH for these.

The thing I did differently than (many) is, instead of camping for hours at a time, I just logged in now and then, checked and logged off. That's how I always do it, and it has always worked; I got Skoll the same way, and in about the same amount of time e.g. 2 weeks after the pet entered the game.

Based on another hunter's findings it looks like TP's burning hatred may have recently been nerfed to always do 20k now (total - probably does 3k or 4k per tick), regardless of FR (some may recall it originally did 10k per tick for totals of 60k+)

Not true, I tamed him just over an hour ago and he hit me for 10k a second, killing my hunter multiple times before I got lucky and tamed him. I had 0 fire resist.

I'm currently awaiting Terrorpene as we speak, I'm in the correct spot, however it's been eight hours now since i've been hunting, not counting the hours that Terrorpene last died/was tamed. Does anyone have any idea of his respawn timer? I heard 12 hours...

Congrats! He's the only other rare that I want.

Ah... ty for the info on that - good to know there was a point to all that fire prot gear I accumulated, after all.

And, this also means seclipse' success (sustaining only 20k dmg with no FR and certainly no more +haste or other mitigation than the lvl 85s who took 60k) has now become a bit of a mystery...

Hee, congratulations. I don't know why but it makes me giggle that so many dwarves love this turtle.

Because dwarves and turtles are both squat and solid, and look perfect together?

I think I'll go with that. I'm currently cheering one on on my server. I dumped a bucket of buffs and food on him, ahaha.
