Sambas warning, NPCscan 4.0.3.2 (fixed in 4.0.3.3)

I just got Sambas on Thrall-US 8:05pm server. Actually quite an uneventful tame, I was in my fourth hour of camping above Victors point and decided to do a fly around, snagged him below Krazzworks. It being primetime, I was very shocked.

Thing is, I have updated my NPCscan to newest version, it has all the cataclysm rare data already loaded... and it called Sambas a "False alarm" because it was in "Twilight Highlands" and not in "Eastern Kingdoms"

Here is the error text in entirety "[20:04:51] _NPCScan: False alarm: Found tamable mob “Sambas” in Twilight Highlands instead of Eastern Kingdoms (ID 770); Definitely a pet."

I think this is just with the new version of npcscan and the fact it labels some of these cataclysm pets in generic "Eastern Kingdom" and "Kalimdor" such as Koroma and Sambas. Madex is listed as Kalimdor.

Just a heads up to you guys, you may wanna manually blank the "World" field out. Had I not being spamming my "/tar /tame" macro, I would have never known he was up. Pure luck. Check your settings!

Also... Im shaking so hard I can barely type lol. These rares give me such a rush :D

I think it'd be easier defined if when people put info in you could be more specific to location. As it sits now when you manually enter it, it defaults to continent instead of continent/zone

And if it throws a false like it did me, it doesnt pop up on your screen and no lights or sounds, its just a text notification. I would hate to know I lost him due to this :\

By leaving it blank (prior to todays update) I have gotten false positives from pets in Orgrimmar but it still set the bells and whistles off.

Well I've had Sambas and Karoma manually in mine for awhile with them in the location of Eastern Kingdoms, and I've had them pop just fine with Eastern Kingdom with it warning me that it may be a pet.

Twilight Highlands = Eastern Kings. Check your maps, sillies. It's based on the continent, not specific zone.

which is weird since the addon thinks Eastern Kingdoms and Twilight Highlands are different.

at least different enough to give a false report.

Nope. they're not. It's on the same continent. Infact, it's the Wetlands neighbor to be exact.

I don't think that's being argued--however, the OP seems to be saying the addon is confused and distinguishes TH as separate from EK, instead of a part of it.

Oh ya. I know. Someone else though was saying the two are definitely separate.

If it helps, what I was saying is how the prelisted mobs are in the npcscan database by both continent and zone. What would make things easier to not get false positives is to have the ability when manually adding id's to not only go name/id/continent but be able to input name/id/continent/zone.

I just dont want what happened to me to happen to another hunter who is exhausted from a long camping session. Had I not been spamming my target macro out of habit, I would have missed Sambas. I would hate for that to happen to someone else because npcscan called the real live mob a "false alarm." :D

UPDATE

Looks like 4.0.3.3 fixed this anyway so it wont be an issue. Woot!

From the 4.0.3.3 changelog: Tamable rares in Uldum and Twilight Highlands should now be detected properly.

Ah, gotcha.

Though seems it was fixed.

I went to Twilight Highlands. Went to the spot in the upper right side of the map. Added the ID# 50159 to _NPCscan. Logged out to clear cache. Logged back in and flew a few seconds to the next closest spot. The rest is history.

So here are my tips:

Add the rare you are looking for to your _NPCscan. It appears that the addon hasn't been updated for Cataclysm mobs. Clear your cache when you start your search. If the mob hasn't been added to your _NPCscan it still gets cached. For instance if you saw another hunter with Ghostcrawler or Sambas in Stormwind it still gets cached. Clear it before you start your search.

Good luck everyone!
