Tonight, I got the last of my mats together for the Vial of Sands and had my drake made! Flew around feeling very pleased with myself, took some guildies for rides, it was great.

Awesome!!!
Gotta wonder, is that border to their wings supposed to be there? The grey border on the bend of the yellow membrane. It looks off to me.

Anyway, I don't think I'll be trying for this mount - Drake of West Wind for me - but a huge grats to you!

No, that grey membrane isn't supposed to be there. If you view the image on MMO-champion from pre-release news, the mount there clearly doesn't have the same grey membrane.

Considering that passengers don't ride on your back, there is obviously a lot wrong with the sandstone drakes XD

Is it not supposed to be there? Nice, it'd be great if they removed them. There's a few other graphic bugs that annoy me about the mount, and I'm hoping it's something Bliz will fix when they have more time. The stomping sound is quite hilarious, but I bet people get annoyed with it. I'd like my roar to have a sound instead. ;^;

Now don't get me wrong, I love my dragon form, it's absolutely brilliant. I don't want to be too nit picky, but I get the feeling Blizzard rushed with this.

Yes, it has some flaws...some odder than others...but, I love it! I do hope they fix the passenger carrying glitch. Pretty sure they are supposed sit on my back, not dangle somewhere between my forepaws.

Aye. x) I was digging through WMV earlier, the drake does not have any of the bugs in the model in there, so I'm a bit puzzled why they've made to the finished model. =/

Looking closely it looks like all the sandstone drakes have that "membrane" glitch. I'm assuming its just a model error. Dragon models mess up. ALOT.

no really, A LOT O_O

I had the white drake since the end of TBC expansion, and I can tell you about everytime Blizzard put in a new content patch, somehow that dragon model would mess up. It's leg would warp into itself. It's head would collide with mine. It was literally a cornucopia of errors everytime a patch came out.

I assume that 4.0 probably had these drakes working just fine (which is why the datamined image looked ok) but something else in the 4.0.1a patch broke the mounts. Why WMV doesn't display it might have to do with the particle-effect with the floating gems around the drakes wings and tail. That's my guess anyways.

I think the only downside to being able to turn into a dragon is:
1)Strangers/People assuming I'm a taxi.
2) People assuming I have gold to give away.

You know what though? I wish they let us use flying mounts as ground mounts in no-fly zones like they did on the beta. I think mounts that cost more than 30kg in just vendor materials should be able to run and fly X_x

You can use flyers just fine in grounded areas. I use my gyrocopter all the time now.

Know what horror I saw today? I popped onto my RP server of choice, and ran into Orgrimmar. Three people with this thing roleplaying dragons. -.-

Man the third screen looks like the dragons doing the dirty with that orc. Reminds me of the horrible drawings on DA.....oh god.

Well now....I'd get the orc's side of the story on that....

No, only your Gyrocopter and the X-53 mount work like that. Dragons do not. I know this for a fact as I've tried several times on all my dragons to use them in areas like Tol Barad.

I noticed even in 4.0 Pre-cata launch that even without azeroth flying that X-53 and gryocopters worked great as ground mounts. lol

I believe the Flying Carpets from Tailoring also work as ground-mounts in areas where flying isn't enabled - seen a few in BGs

But cripes, glitches aside, I love that drake model o-o I wants it xD Gold/yellow + purple = love.

Grats on getting it ^^ (I've not set aside any effort for Cata mounts yet - too busy leveling my Hunter camping for rares xD )

Sadly, when you dismount midair, the passenger (but not the driver) is given a parachute. However, fatigue water could be fun! Bwa-hahaha!
