Was this guy always tamable? I just got him on the ptr and can't even find a match on petopia's beetle page.

Aha! So *that's* where the remaining green beetle was.
I'ev been trying to find the bugger, but had no luck. I should've remembered the ones at The Barrens!
Not only was he not always tameable, he didn't always look like that. He used to be a 'spider ant' model.

Yea I remembered the spider ant model, I haven't checked on him since the shattering though, I must admit, I really love the emerald green color, very rich xD

You don't need to have done the quest for it to spawn. It'll be there! It's just a rare critter, IIRC.
EDIT: Yep. Confirmed it for myself. The beetle is a rare spawn, wandering around just above Desolation Hold. I couldn't find one in the Alliance Silithid nests at all. So this one could be fun for low-level allies to get hold of.

I have a Pretty cool looking Silithid, I found it in 1000 needles... i just enjoy it cause its missing its skull cap and the brain is exposed. and for more fun effects if u look closely u see flies hovering over the brain..

Quite a thread kick up but if you notice, the title of the thread clearly states (ptr). As there has been no patches on Live, just hotfixes, it's not been implemented into the main game yet.

If this lil' buggie is around on live, you wouldn't be able to tame him anyway, as he would still be an untamable "ant" silithid.

The ant you have isn't the Silithid Harvester, so no.
This guy isn't tamable at all right now.

No - the tamable silithid ants are Silithid Swarmers. This (on live) is a different silithid ant that isn't tamable, the Silithid Harvester. In 4.0.6, the Silithid Harvester will evidently be changing into this skin and become a tamable beetle. The Silithid Swarmer should be completely unaffected.
