Ok...I've got a bit of a dilemma here. I've been feeling the lowbie thing lately so in addition to rolling up a toon or two for the Nesingwary guild, I decided to poke back at an older hunter I rolled but then never used much.

He just has one problem...he doesn't have a lowbie pet! I've petitioned twice and the GMs are all blithely telling me to just reroll, but I've got 5th Anniv and 300 cooking on this guy, as well as a couple soulbound vanity items. I really, really don't want lose the cooking entirely and have to redo it.

I've tried summoning pet, rezzing, checking both trainer and stable master, even intentionally taking a death after seeing how it works on NEW lowbie hunters, in hopes the pet would just spawn with me when I respawned after death.

I've got yet another petition in, and to be absolutely honest I'm planning to politely but persistently petition until a GM either tells me what I'm looking for is impossible, forbidden, or asks me to stop. If they can't do it because of rules or technical limitations, that's fine...I understand it. Merely telling me tough luck, go reroll since you won't lose much or gut it out to 10 without...is frustrating without being told why they can't or won't fix it.

Do any of you guys have any other ideas I could try to see if I can untangle this myself? I was really looking forward to bonding with the new pet, so I'd like to consider leveling without him an utter last resort.

Hmm I don't know exactly how/if a GM would ever be able to give back a pet that was never really there. What race is your character? You can't find another one of the same kind? :S That's about all I could suggest to do.

It's a lvl 2 BE. I simply don't see why I should be required to do 2-10 without a pet, when a brand new hunter has one. If they can't do it, period, then they should say so directly and I'll drop the issue. As it is now, the GM replies have seemed a bit...condescending. "You lose your work, cuz we don't feel like doing any."

I'm honestly a little surprised they didn't anticipate this solution and have a fix of some sort...Blizz is usually pretty good about doing the simple things like asking what COULD go wrong, and finding ways to ensure it can go right more easily. Think of armor sellbacks, BOP trading in instances, and the ability to recover lost mini pets for example.

Well from what I've read here on Petopia a lot of people have just been courteous and stuff and just kept asking nicely over and over again and eventually got an understanding GM you could try that.

That's the current plan. I get the feeling either the 2 so far didn't actually look at what I got (the cooking, the items) or don't play hunters so it doesn't seem very serious. I'm hoping it's just a matter of asking til I find someone who's played a hunter enough to understand the issue.

I know legacy lowbie warlocks got their pets correctly after the changes, at most with a trip to the trainer. I had one...I was hoping this would go just as smoothly.

To be honest I'll doubt you'll get it, the GMs are right in saying "Want pet, reroll" because your Hunter was made before the system changed and if they pulled a rollback you'd lose everything. Fraid in your case you might have to go the long winded way just like anyone else who had random hunters at a pre pet stage as one of my friends did.

Well, while it sucks, maybe, millions of hunters made their 1-10 without pet before they added that thing. I'm not saying it's right or anything but with the wait queues for GM-tickets perhaps your better off just lvl it to 10 without, it will probably take longer to wait for tickets.

"A starting pet?! Why, in my day, we had to *kite* our way from level 1 to 10! Uphill and in the snow (if you were a dwarf)! And leveling was slower! And we LIKED IT!"

LOL, oh trust me I remember those days. I just haven't taken to any dragonhawks to date and I was hoping this would do the trick. Ah well...looks like it really might be the most expedient just to do it.

How are you having a lvl 2 with 300 skill in cooking?
Unless I just didn't know you could level professions all the way up there without leveling character too.

Only cooking and maybe fishing. Not sure, I never had the patience to do TOO much with fishing.

Short answer: Thanksgiving recipes.

Each server I could scrape up the cash for the trainers on, we each took a character around, gathered up some of the mats, then met up and cooked like crazy. I know last year was at least the second year it could be done, as my sister taught me about it from the year before.

Edit: Should be possible with stockpiled normal materials as well...can't see why not anyway. I've gotten most of the way there with my worgen druid just using plain old materials and recipes, stalled out around 230, 240 or so.

Dealing with a GM seems like such a waste of time when you could level to 10 in an hour or less. Or is the BE starting pet unique?

Mm, yeah. I'd say just level your character to 10 then try on a pretty Dragonhawk then! Doesn't take terribly long at all, specially as a Blood Elf. And heck, if the Dragonhawk isn't to your liking there's always a Lynx stalking around!

Far as I know it's standard...I just hate the slog most of the time. Oh well...next time the mood catches me I'll go back and clean it up.

I hear you. I absolutely hate when people denigrate the question instead of answering it. By all means answer the question and THEN take shots at me if you're feeling it, but otherwise just shut it and move on, ya know?

The ones trying to dodge the question are probably junior GMs; I'd recommend asking for an escalation to a senior GM - you might be able to also call customer service (and be prepared to wait 30m+) but I don't know if they will deal with in-game stuff there (I suspect they don't)...

As you might have understood, I thought all professions worked the same, that you had to be a specific level to learn more. Even secondary professions. :p

I wouldn't have known about it myself if Lexi hadn't told me, honestly.

Honestly, I advise kiting from 2-10. It will sharpen your skills enormously. I'm not trying to be rude or a jerk or anything, but if you can pull it off, if you're good at kiting without a pet, then you can also kite with your pet not growling and just plain kill more things than you can otherwise. At least in extreme cases.

The GMs may not be permitted to talk about the internals but I assume there is some event which occurs when you create a character at level *1* which gives them the default pet. That may not be an independent event which a GM can just trigger on your level 2 character.

Yep, you'd be correct. Finally got it escalated to a senior GM this evening who said it's not possible for technical reasons. I made sure he got a good survey thanking him for admitting such.
