You said you loved them, right? Then they're worth it.

You can use any pet you want now. They all provide different buffs and debuffs.

Pretty much right now all pets are equal in their trees. A bear is as good as a boar, a wolf as good as a Raptor, an owl as good as a hawk. Granted In MY OPINION i think the exotic pets are more powerful but thats because they are the bonus for being BM

I'll never get rid of my Raptor, he's been by my side for many long years and we've fought in many tough battles!

My draenei hunter uses one, and consistently tops the DPS charts.

Oh yeah? Well I wear fingerless gloves when I play, and I consistently trap better than any other hunter in the group!
(Sorry, I can't resist logical fallacies....)
Raptors now get what is essentially Sunder Armor: a stacking debuff that reduces the foe's armor. If there are no rogues, druids, or warriors in the group, it's a pretty useful buff; on the other hand, even if there is one or more of those classes, you're not "losing" much damage by bringing one. If you really love raptors, use a raptor!

12% armor debuff is a wonderful thing for BM and MM hunters (not sure which spec relies more on physical damage), and raptors look damn good providing it.
On a related note, is anyone else hearing raptor shrieks and screeches from their devilsaurs? I tamed King Krush and he's constantly making raptor hisses and screeches along with his normal roars and bellows.

First time I heard mine use its Terrifying Roar, my response was "why the heck is my devilsaur screeching like a raptor?!" It's not the worst sound file recycling-- beetles and scorpids use all the same sounds, for instance-- but it IS a bit distracting.

I would say MM needs it more, as MM relies more heavily on Steady Shot than Cobra Shot. But it's a pretty close thing.

That's the Devilsaur's special ability. Their 'Roar' that adds crit uses the raptor sound effect.

And silithids, as well.
Er. I realized I misworded that.

As in, the spider-silithids use the same noise as the tank-silithids. And IIRC, in the wild the wasp-silithids sound the same, too (not sure if thy sound the same when they're tamed).

Weird that they used the raptor screech for it, the dissonance between the high-pitched raspy shriek and the deep rumbling roars is jarring.
With the exception of the Boss Silithids, all of the silithids, wasps and scorpids use the same set of sounds.

Clearly it needs to be renamed [Earhurting Screech]. Would even fit with what it does. ^^
Go for the raptor. It's a useful buff for all specs (SV still uses Auto Shots!), some more than others, but just the fact that you think it looks shiny is enough.

Or "Backfiring Chainsaw"

At least they haven't mixed up the models with the sound files yet and given us mooing warp stalkers, "ook ook"ing carrion birds and roaring turtles.

Raptors are fantastic! Pet damage is really even across the board now, the only real noticable difference is the buffs. Sunder armor is great to bring if you don't have a prot warrior. Use the pets you like to use.

Sadly, you didn't find one - in my post I was simply pointing out 1) I use one and 2) it's certainly not bad, which is what the OP was asking about.
Next time, do yourself a favor and read people's posts more carefully before taking shots at them.

1. Raptors are good pets. Very good pets.
2. Your draenei hunter consistently tops the DPS charts.
3. I was poking fun at the way you ordered your observations-- setting it up the way you did seemed to imply that the reason you top The Meters is because of your raptor pet, not because you have good gear, or you're always more on the ball, or everyone else is doing less than the tank, or a thousand possible contributing factors. You didn't overtly state it of course, but the casual and/or easily confused reader might have interpreted it that way, and, well, I was feeling feisty.
4. I meant no harm, but maybe next time I'll keep my poking to myself, eh?

5. A raptor for every stable! (No, really, they're fantastic pets. And so sleek!)

Kyra was the first pet I ever kept more than two or three levels, and for a time before there were such things as "pet talent trees", actually served as an impromptu tank vs. elites in my early leveling, until I was able to get
Tonka from Un'goro and have him take over that position. But Kyra is still with me, and never leaves my side - she's the "pack matriarch", and has a permanent spot at Slot 1 of my active-call stable.
