I was just watching the Big Bang Theory and Sheldon was playing a text based game, it made me remember all the fun times I had playing them when I was a kid.

Anyone know of any text based games that are pretty large these days?

You just watched Big Band Theory too?

Sorry, it was just on. I don't even know the plot. I just recognize the title and went, "NEAT!"

As for text-based games, fraid not.

I used to (and prob'ly will again) play a game called DragonRealms. It's pay-to-play (which can be a pain), but was a heck of a lot of fun. =D Not a huge playerbase, but it's been around since the inception of AOL, and some of the players have been along for most of the ride.

I played a few textbase games on my uncle's ZX Spectrum but don't remember the titles anymore. Too long ago xD

Wow, I use to call em MUDS back in the day... i haven't played a all text game since 03 maybe. ill have to look it up but my mom played all text. its actually how she met my new step dad.... they have been married for 12 years now.

i remember besides Diablo my first one that resembled what world of warcraft has done. would have to be The 4th Coming. its still up and running and people still pay to play it. but wow that was long time ago.. im starting to feel old now...

MUD....

I vaguely remember that. My parents were avid MUD players, it's how they met a lot of our current guildies, or kept in touch with them. Something like that. I never got a shot at it, though, so I can't form an opinion.

OMG.

Oregon Trail!

We would name all the characters after our family members and see who survived and who died. It was actually kind of awesome in the end when you were the only survivor. "HA! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT AZU! I LIIIIIIVE!"

Lol! Oh wow, Oregon Trail brings back memories. xD When I was in elementary school we would always go to the library and hope one of the computers was free so we could play it for the duration of the lunch hour.

Oregon Trail was AMAZING.

I also liked the Yukon Trail followup. Amazon Trail was okay - the highlight was the pet photo safari! ....did I say pets? I meant animals. Endangered species. Not pets. No. I have not been playing WoW too much....

I actually remember when DragonRealms was new, but stopped playing when it became pay to play. T_T

Hahaha! Funny story, about talking WoW to people who don't play...

Here I am with my friend, we're about to watch Harry Potter. Sadly, friend doesn't play WoW. (She teases me all the time though for playing. :p) So a trailer comes on, playing some song called, "Light You Up". I turn to my friend, put on a squeaky voice, and jokingly, say, "I'm gonna light you up, sweetcheeks!" She stares at me blankly, and I'm thinking, "What? No Milhouse Mana-hell. She doesn't play."

So I had to quickly explain to her it was a WoW reference. >.<
