Well, I've been bored lately. And so, I've decided I want to look for Jadefang. He's the last Cata rare I haven't tamed, after all.
But the problem is...
I don't know if, when I see him, I should tame him, or kill him! I do want the mini pet, after all, but I've never had a Shale Spider. They look neat, and Jadefang is pretty nice looking.
Of course, there's always a chance I'll see him again, although I doubt it. Then I could kill him (if no hunters are out to tame him of course!) and get the mini pet too.

So. First time I see Jadefang... Should I tame him, or kill him?

For me, I say 'tame first, kill second'. As much as I'm a minipet collector, if you really want Jadefang as a pet, best to do that first as you don't know when you'll get a second chance!

Tame first!..I got JadeFang earlier this week..and went back yesterday..logged out woke up randomly at 4:30am and she was up again and I killed her for the pet..they are both adorable.
My Cata Rares are complete! for now..lol

one thing to remember, if you camp him, make sure to have a BM spec because if he pops on you and you dont have a BM, then the decision has been made for you

I'd kill Jadefang first as I just want the mini pet and not the hunter one XD

Kill first. then go try out all three other kinds of shale spiders with your new minipet. If you really prefer the minipet's color over the other choices, then go ahead and try for the tame.

Do be sure you like Shale Spiders (ake the Squeeee Spider) before you start your camp. Drag one around with you for a bit on some solo quests or lower level dungeons. If you do decided you like it, I'd personally camp him/her first to tame

If you end up liking the spiders, and fail to tame the rare unique one but have it's mini version with you, it may be a little saddening to know this isn't your fighting companion. Though a personal choice in the end, I would tame first, then camp for the vanity pet second.

- Personally killed her at 83 when randomly checking in the cave, then camped her to tame at 85 :3 So, I didn't have to make the hard choice

I went there early on my hunter so I wouldnt get stuck with the choice. at 83, went there, killed Jade for the pet and at 85 went back for the tame...Arathors low on the camper scales so I didnt have any competition. I did try one of the purple shale spiders for a bit, and a yellow, just to make sure I liked the spider.

Make sure you like shale spiders before making a decision.

I love shale spiders, but for being a rare Jadefang is awfully boring. I have the yellow one, I think it's color combo is by far better. It's an excellent farming/ questing pet. I say kill him and take his minipet and get a nicer looking yellow or even pink one.

1st, do you like the look of the shale spiders and their color variations? for me, not really.

2nd, do you need another tenacity pet? for me, i already have 3, so definitely no.

i picked the tiny shale spider companion pet.

i had to make that decision recently, and i say tame!

my reasoning behind that is that it is far more difficult to tame than it is to kill, since you may have jerks come and kill him during your tame. once you get that out of the way it is a simple matter of just tagging it first if you have someone dogging your during your camp!

I tamed first, personally. Just in case! I definitely agree with those who suggested trying a different color shale spider before preparing to camp!

Tame first, that's harder. Easier to kill if you get ganked later.

That is exactly what I did. Luckily not many people on my server knew how to get up to him, so after I had tamed him and I saw him again, I went and got up onto the ledge and killed him off. There were a couple of allies (I was on a horde toon) standing around looking up at the ledge but I don't think they had figured out how to get up there. We went back a few days later and got the pet for my hubby also.

I fully agree with Kurasu though - tame first, kill second.

don't worry too much about it, I think. Not many do know about Jadefang and the pet yet. I happen to have more than a few guildies who are INSANE about collecting pets (companions) and only last week they didn't know about it. They were so shocked when I asked them if they wanted to get the pet because I saw Jadefang as up.

After running across him twice at 83, I finally just camped him and killed him for the mini-pet. Though I told the other hunters when they joined me if he popped they could tame him. They didn't have the endurance I did I guess.

I have a shale spider which I love he's yellow though. The Green looks really cute when small but I just don't feel it when it's bigger.

If you really like Jadefang as a combat pet, by all means tame him first. He *is* the only green shale spider in the game -- if you really want a green one, it's not like you could just tame one further down the cave.

As for myself, I love Asterix (my red shale spider), even if she is "common", so if I see Jadefang, I'm getting myself a mini-pet!

Yeah, I'm starting to think Kill First, myself. I have... a lot of Tenacity pets. xD A rhino who I love, a Turtle for big time tanking, and a scorpion for... fun. I tamed a purple Shale Spider earlier to see if I liked them and I do - very nice animations. Their sounds are a little... O.O... but I'll live.
However, Jadefang's color seems a little boring to me. The purple one is very pretty, though.
If I run into him again after the first time, I'll tame him, or yell at someone in guild to ask if they want to tame him.

I'm tossing up the same question. I've parked myself in her cave (naked death to the worms to NE wisp it up ) and I just can't decide. I have a purple shale spider because, well, it's purple and I like purple. But I'm going to give one of my other hunters a purple/blue/black theme when I level her.

Though if I played with sound on, I'd never have a shale spider. That noise is so painful to me >.<

Edit: She just popped and I hit tame. Didn't even think about it. Left the hunter in the cave and I'll check later for her again to kill. May as well have the matching set. Purple on will be ditched and the other hunter can have it.
