My New Favorite Macro

In my endless farm for the Grey Camel, I've made a new macro that I thought I'd share with you guys.

See, I HATE the NPC Scan going off for the wrong camel statue. There's Mysterious Camel Statues scattered about Uldum (rare spawns I suppose, I've only found 3). They have two different NPC ID's. 50410 is a "dud" which, when clicked, turns into a dust you can loot & vendor off for 25g. The rare spawn of this rare spawn, 50409, is the one which can teleport you to the Steam Pools, in a phased version lasting 20 minutes where you can fight a giant elite ettin who drops the grey camel mount. I wish I was making this up.

I'm aware that there's been posts on this and it's probably well-known already, but I'm getting to a point! :D

Basically, I got tired of NPC scan going off for the wrong statue ID--hopes getting up and all that. So after the third 50410, I just didn't clear my cache, and decided instead to spam a targetting macro while I flew about--so that I would target it if I passed one, but NPC Scan's war drums wouldn't give me a heart attack for the dud statue. I wanted the macro to be unique, though.

I downloaded Power Auras again, opened up their Sound folder and copied "Sonar.ogg" over to my WoW / Interface folder.

Then, the macro:

/script PlaySoundFile("Interface\\sonar.ogg")
/target Mysterious
[/center]

What this does is make a sonar "ping" sound every time I click the /target macro. I even picked an icon that looks vaguely like a periscope shot  So basically I am amusing myself during the tedious circling of Uldum, (when not spamming posts on Petopia anyway >.>) by zooming around being a submarine. The best thing is, when I cross over areas with a high concentration of spawn points, I click it more frequently... so the pings get faster and faster, as if I'm getting closer to my prize. (I can pretend, right?)

Feel free to try it out--you don't need to keep Power Auras, you just need to dl it and take out the sonar.ogg sound effect. It'll obviously work for any /target macro if you just replace the Mysterious with something else :P

Hahaha xD Sounds like amazing fun. I'd do so myself, but I really only go to Uldum in hopes for black Madexx. The camel isn't a huge priority... yet.

However, if for some reason you need to clear your cache in the future, I'm sure you can just remove the 'dud' ID from NPCScan altogether. I know I've had to -add- IDs, mostly for tameable NR rares and for Aeonaxx... apparently, the only Aeonaxx IS in the addon is actually the one for the -already aggroed- mob. Meaning, if you see the friendly, unaggroed, and compeltely taggable version, your scan won't alert you. Not to mention it shares a bugged timer with this annoying low level bat that's come all the way from Shadowfang to taunt us.

Anyway, good luck and have lots of fun with the fun macro :P

I think the NPC ID for the "friendly" version of Aeonaxx was on WoWhead somewhere--I think it's the 50062 ID, although I could be wrong. I THINK 51236 was the aggressive one, but I'd add 'em all just in case  :)

And yah, I may remove the stupid "dud" ID if I do clear the cache in the future--I just couldn't be bothered doing it again and again

Just to add a couple of data points here. So far I've encountered both the 50409 and 50410 figurines, both of which turned to dust.

Oh my, you had a 409 turn to dust? O.o

All the wowhead comments so far say that the 410s turned to dust while all the 409s teleported--and that the 409 is the one showing a teleport spell. If there's actually a chance the 410 will teleport and/or the 409 turns to dust too, that kinda flops the entire prevailing theory out the window!

Have you posted there yet? I'll clear cache just in case :D Thanks!

I've only seen one ever. It was a 409, and it got me the mount. I made one of the early wowhead posts about it, back when people were all like "410 is totally the right ID, no need to post on 409, must be a fluke from beta. BTW, mine was a dud." Given that it was early on in the expansion, and the fact that my npcscan came up with the number that everyone was saying wasn't right, AND the fact that it was the one that ported me, when all other reports (410s) were duds... I threw the hypothesis out there. Additionally, it's been recently added to wowhead that 409 has the sandstorm ability (the cyclone effect you get before being teleported), whereas 410 does not.

But admittedly, I haven't had any greater of a sample size than 1. And I honestly can't say what I'd do if I came across another one on my priest, 409 or 410 or even 411 (which mmochamp mentioned when they first talked about the mount and the other cata rares - I hadn't heard of that number before). I might just inform general chat of where one is. I might try to get an alt down there before anyone else that was around found it. I'd feel bad clicking one knowing that I already have the mount...

I'm not sure exactly where I'm going with the rest of this post. My suggestion would be to just remove the 410 from your npcscan list if you don't want it blaring at you... that way if you need to clear your cache because of a tameable or a dead or tagged rare (or TLPD... or Aeonaxx...), then you don't have to worry. You can still use your fun macro. :D

Back when I first set up my NPCscan 50410 was considered to be the "magic" ID, so I was really pleased the first time NPCscan went off and I saw it was the 50410 that had triggered. Heart pounding I'm trying to locate the damn thing, flying out of range many times and even thinking someone else must've nabbed it before I did. Eventually I find the triangle hiding inside a shrub and click the statue. Only to have it turn to dust. :(

Second time was on my alt, and since I thought I knew 50409 didn't give the mount I went ahead and clicked it, and had it turn into dust too.

I haven't posted on wowhead as I don't have an account there, and when I checked just then there seemed to be enough posts suggesting either ID can grant them without me having to create an account. Also, I didn't think to screenshot the NPCscan window at the time either.
