Is there a difference in a pet depending on where you get it? Like for example nelfs start off with the White Striped Saber Cat skin but then there's the rare Rak'Shiri with the same skin...I was just wondering what the difference between them was.

No difference whatsoever, besides level. Some people just like getting the rare spawn, and if you're not a nelf then you have to get Rak'shiri to get a white striped cat.

The NPC ID will be different depending on what pet you tame, but other than that nothing is the different between pets with similar or different skins of the same family.

I also think there is a difference in the ID number of that pet.

For example what they are doing to Olm the Wise. He was a basic white owl rare-I never went for him specifically because I could easily get a plain white owl.

But now they are changing Olm the wise to a gorgeous ghostly owl according to the PTR. So in the next patch yes there will be a difference between the rare and the regular of what was once was a white skin on the rare of the two.

S'okay. ^.^ Used to be that some pets had different skills and such, but that's no longer the case.

Some rares (And non rares) like before are being given a new skin in the patch like Olm. Because Olm's ID is unique to Olm, his skin will instantly covert over to the gorgeous ghost one if you already have one and he will be ghostly in the wild WHEN HE REAPPEARS. Others converted in Boom patch like the now red mastiffs used to be red hyenas etc, it's because of the ID that mob has getting fiddled with.

So say Rake and the male lions of Barrens have the exact same skin. However if the Barrens lions had a skin change to their ID for some reason, Rake would still be Rake but the lions would update in the wild and for anyone who has them.

If you check the pet list for Mania stickied at the top, that has all the changes/new tamables we've found so far on the PTR.

Keep in mind, the PTR's not done yet. It's doubtful any of the changed skins will be reverted, but there may be more changes coming up. Several rares still look exactly like the mobs around them, and might be getting a makeover because of it. And several 'old rares' who haven't gotten a makeover may still (although it's more doubtful now).

Not saying 'Don't look for the ones already changed'. Just saying 'Don't fill your stable; more might be on the way'.

Oh boy, not sure how I would react to my Silithid Ravager Krkk'kx transforming into a brain bug or something. I would sorely miss the dancing

Well, I'd think that if there are any changes, it'd mostly just be in color. At least I would assume and hope so!

I wouldn't mind Krkk'kx turning into a new color of silithid tank, actually. Taking the silithid wasp colors as a reference point, I think that a white, golden-orange, or Vephriel-black color would look great on my Cyfaillid. It would be like a paint job on a car, except it's the exoskeleton of a Starship Troopers bug
