So we can tame zombie wolves, bears and boars...demonic boars...dogs with runes etched into them...and whatever the heck ravagers, spore bats and Nether Rays are, but no skeleton Wind Serpent to go with the Skeletal Eagle? I am confused, LoL.

Give it time- we're still probably not even halfway thru the PTR yet; mean we only just recently got tamable yellow n pink dragonhawks.

I think you're twisting things a bit to achieve your argument. All those creatures are still beasts, no matter how magical they are (except for the undead-looking eagle... I don't think it looks sickly-but-alive, I think it looks dead and should never have been tameable ;) )

The skeletal wind serpent is just an animated skeleton, nothing more. It's really no more a beast than a mindless human skeleton running around Icecrown is still a human. If anything, a death knight should be able to tame it ;)

Granted, I will accept a counter-argument: if it still retained some of its essence and mind from when it was alive, and still thought and acted like a beast, then I guess it could make sense a hunter could tame it no matter how anorexic it looks.

Wain we can tame living pieces of rock, if BM. We can tame core hounds, masters of flame and beasts of lava and the very dogs of Raggy himself! We can tame dinosaurs, we can tame fel tainted and diseased creatures. We can tame undead hawks.

And you're saying that some animated bones is bad? :p

We're not asking for the skelly raptors AS COOL AS THAT WOULD BE HOT DAMN, but the fossil Wind Serpents do seem to have more life than the skelly raptors.

Yet, Ryai, they're still all beasts, much as you take artistic license in your descriptions to make them seem otherwise. ;) The argument I was given with the hawks was that they're not dead, or undead, just really sick like diseased bears. I think they look like they're a bit beyond that, but if Blizzard says they are still living beasts then I guess they are ;)

I'm curious to know in what way, Ryai? Skeletal raptors don't seem much different to me. They run to the left, they run to the right. Skeletal wind serpents flap to the left, they flap to the right ;)

Then again, as I said, if they retain any of their beast psyche in whatever force of animation inhabits them, then they could conceivably be tamed, as they still think they are beasts.

Wain when I can see the inner workings of a creature up close and personal, and can still tame it, I don't call that living, I call it Zombie XD

besides undead means not dead so they could be not dead beasts :D

Oh, relooking at the picture I see they really are all bones- I could have sworn their chest caveties were filled or something...

And it's mostly just we can tame 'ghosts', why can't we tame their remains? :<

and your comment made me think of time warp, lol.

Now if they could just get the skeletal wind serpent to do the pelvic thrust...

I think it's the step to the right that would be the tricky part...

Ever seen those things flying? They do it already!

... I'd demonstrate with an animated .gif, but I don't know how to make them. :( Probably for the better; it probably couldn't be unseen. :D

Oh god, you're right. Can you get them to put their hands on their hips and bring their knees in tight though? :/

Core hounds are made of lava. Shale spiders are made of stone (in fact it's not so much that they are made of stone as that they are closely gathered hovering clusters of rocks). Etcetera. It takes just as much artistic license to call those creatures beasts as it does to say the same of animated bones.

Blizzard started down the slippery slope of "species stretching" back in vanilla, the day they made undead boars (whose actual model name as with the plaguetalons says "undead") tamable so that hunters could have access to charge rank 6, and have continued on downward at an increasing pace to the point where species has become a paper technicality and nothing more.

Now, that aside, your other statement, that "beast" should simply mean "creature that thinks of itself as a beast regardless of physical makeup", I think is right on the money - maybe it requires the superior skills of a beast mastery hunter to tame it, e.g. meet the more improbable tames halfway, but at least in that scenario we have a model that works.

Which ofc leads to the question, would an undead windserpent think of itself as a beast? ;)

I'd actually loke to see a pet involved with archeology. Perhaps while your digging through fossil sites you may unearth one of these that's classified as a beast that will attack those who unearthed them?

Which is exactly the point - the fact that undead typically don't think of themselves as such, is what (theoretically) makes former-beast undead (and various other weird things that for whatever reason assume the general silhouette of a beast) vulnerable to taming! :D

Evolutionary offshoot from silithids.

Yes, I'm serious....get right up close to an old model quad sil sometime and take a good look at its face and mouth. Now peek at a Rav's face.

I didn't see this til hubby pointed it out to me, and now I can't unsee it. With the exception of the sil having a split mandible, and a single jawbone for the Rav...yeah.

Could be, but as far as I know silithids don't exist in Outland, so barring some new lore I think that's just parallel evolution, e.g. things not actually related develop similar features because those features prove to work best.
