Damn you arena, DAMN YOU

I curse arena to the firey chasm from which it came.
During a moment of brief stupidity I accidently called out my Lone Hunter in an arena match. And mine was no ordinary lone hunter, I tamed him during those few weeks where we could tame pets with appearance buffs and keep the buff on them. So needless to say, he no longer has a knife handsomely lodged in his skull. :|

I submitted a ticket about it pleading to the GMs, but I doubt they'll take pity on my since he was obtained through malicious means. What do you guys think? Any chance of me seeing my precious Rambokniv again?

All you can do, unfortunately, is ask and hope. But to be honest, I think the chances of it are extremely slim. I don't know if they could restore him to 'what he was before', and they can't just give you another one because it's a glitched pet. If you'd lost him totally and they gave him back, he might still have the sword (similar has been done) but... replacing the sword? I don't know. :/

Lesson to be learned here: even if you don't intend to use the pet in the arena, make sure they aren't in your lineup before joining an arena battle! Just in case! :(

If you're extremely attached to the individual wolf, then I'm sorry about it :( I doubt the GM can even reapply the buff to it, as it's invisible and they probably won't know what buff it even is.

That said, I've heard that some people still manage these sorts of tames now, but we mostly try and avoid doing it as Blizz has tried to hotfix it. Still, if it were me I'd probably still try, if it's a case of "replacing" a pet--but if you're attached to your wolf now, I don't blame you for not doing so :(

Still taming them? does the macro still work on some pets?

I highly doubt that it would be considered to have been gotten through 'malicious' means - at the time, we had asked Blizzard through the bug report forum, but had yet to get a reply. I think it's merely a matter of whether or not this is in the realm of possibility.

From what I've heard, the petabandon method you developed doesn't work, but kill & aborted rez method still does. At least, that's what Griffley's thread is now saying.

Could I trouble you for a link to said thread?

I can pretty much guarantee that a GM would not be able to help you out, unfortunately. Reapplying a buff like that to a pet just isn't something that they can do I'm afraid.

The abandon method does still work, although it can take many attempts. I've done it myself post-hotfix to test it, and I'm 100% on that. I haven't heard of this kill/aborted res one, though.

(edit--to note, when it DID work post-patch, the odd thing was it appeared to simply abandon pet until I'd entered a dungeon later, and suddenly the pet was on my call pet menu, so it might not appear to work at first)

Okay, I'm on my way back to EPL with an empty stable slot and a pocket full of hopes and dreams.

It's in the Pet Resource thread that Vephriel has stickied to this forum: http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7082

Just to clarify, you're refering to the /script PetAbandon() method as the method that is still working, right?

I'm talking about the original method for taming the oiled fledgling; you apply a serpent sting or immolation trap to the hawk, start taming at such a time that the beast will be killed the instant you tame it, and as you near this point, you get ready to hit Revive Pet to make the pet despawn at the instant it dies, and is tamed. Once the body has despawned, you abort Revive Pet, and log out and back it. It's more difficult than the /script PetAbandon() method.

I recently got him with the sword still in his head using the pet abandon macro. It works, in fact it worked for me on the first try, some say you might run a risk of getting on blizzard bad side however.I haven't seen any response from blizzard towards my lone hunter and hopefully i won't.I could be a bit too optimistic but i figure at worse blizzard will just remove his sword rather than suspend or ban me.Hope you get him :)

Good news, I got him again :D
Thanks to a Shadow Priest friend of mine, we were able to re tame him using the Kill/Rez method

I tried the abandon macro about 20 times to no success so I gave up on it, but the kill and rez method still works, although it is quite difficult to pull off
