Chromaggus? A hard tame? Seriously?

Okay not seriously.

I keep seeing topics of people going out and taming the core hound Chromaggus and bringing with them all this extra haste items and buffs... but I have to ask... why?

I really don't understand why people think they need to come super prepped to tame Chromy. My guild had a weekly run to get all the hunters that wanted it this pet.. and none of us had any haste pots or haste gear or using another core hound's skill or anything but our normal stuff. We just went in, most the time just 4 manning it, pulled the switch and tamed per normal. None of us had any issues but one having a healer who was along for the first time over heal a bit and pull agro a few, but aside some agro bouncing once the hunter got solid agro the tame went down with out a hitch.

Even our lower level hunters didn't have any issue with the tame. Our freshly dinged lv 69 hunter came along with no extra preps and the tame went very smoothly.

Am I missing something? Are people REALLY having that hard a time taming this pup that they need all this extra stuff to get the tame down?

Thing is....your situation is EXTREMELY rare.

My first time taming Chromaggus was a biznitch......He did not come quietly.
Attempt 1: Utter fail. We wiped
Attempt 2: Close fail. Healer healed a bit TOO much and kept taking aggro. Finally got it back, only 5k health left. I died but saw Chromaggus disappeared and the door opened....i thought I lost. I get rezzed and see within my pets....There's a corehound! It's Chromaggus!!!!
At that time, I only had a haste pot. thats it. Nothing else.

My second time around, I had everything under the sun.

I had taken a lvl 70 hunter in there too. for her, it took us 4 times cause she had no haste at all. Haste lessens the tame time and also gives him less of a chance to mutate someone.

The hardest part is just getting to him, in my opinion. I have him tamed myself, and have accompanied 4 other guild runs to get him for others. Each time they just released him from his door, hit Tame Beast, and that was that. No special buffs or haste needed. :)

maybe it's just luck. I got him at 83 or so with just the help of an 85 mage. Our problem wasn't so much Chromaggus but Razorgore and the drakes! If you can get stealthing/fading classes taming should be easier, imo. Mage just did his fade thing as I tamed and we had no aggro problems. Haste stuff will definitely help but 80+ shouldn't be too hard without. Just bring a rogue! FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, BRING A ROGUE!!

But the Baywatch room is awesome! One of my friends strips just to go through there it's hilarious.

Razorgore was a pain in the ass till my mother clicked what to do so we leave her to handle the eggs while we defend. Vael can be a pain in the ass if nobody actually notices the whole exploding thing and... Whichever the left hand black drake is (Embermaw?) though with that we found if I keep growl pulling vs another taunt it gets around our DPS not being high enough to outright deck him.

Chroma is stupidly easy though, all three times tame completed before he touched anyone.

Actually it's not that rare.

Tame one: Yasindra gets him easy as pie
Tame two: Friend Hunter we helped, gets him easy as pie
Tame three: Rosalyn gets him easy as pie.

The real trouble? Wiping like 8 times on Vael because he kept ****ing glitching. And then when we finally downed him, EXPLOSION EXPLOSION and Sandra's mother and I, who were the only survivors left after like the 10th try, died. But HE WAS DEAD FINALLY oh god.

Then of course Arias mother, who was a mage, is frost. For some reason her butler puddle aggroed a pack when we got to the room just before Chromaggus, and oh god, there were goblins and dragons and demons everywhere and suddenly Caim was the only one alive and I was all COME AT ME MY BITCHES and I stayed alive for almost 15 seconds and nearly killed like 3 mobs before I was overwhelmed and died mid bounce.

So honestly it feels like taming Chromaggus and having problems with said tame is the rare part.

edit: so many aliases and names to keep track of Dx

i think some people like to have the extra haste, buffs n such when they tame for the GP of it becuase you never know when something can go wrong, when i went after him i made sure i had haste buffs, etc just so i knew there was less chance for something going bad xD

and like veph said getting to him... is a pain in the you know what >.<

Done Chromaggus tames 3 times with guild. The thing I find is, if the first tame goes off uninterrupted, it's fast & easy.

If, however, for SOME reason, the first attempt is interrupted, and he manages to get into the swing of his cooldowns and minor enrages it can get a bit ugly. It's still quite doable of course, what with tranq shot and so forth, but... *shakes fist at mage who thought it was cute to do a pet waterbolt at the literal last second of the tame*

Very rare? Not from what I seen.

The very first time we went after him was for my tame, as I was first to bring up to the guild that he was tamable. Yeah the hardest part is the first boss and the slowing whelp room. Once we got to him someone ran ahead and just pulled the switch before anyone else got into the room. I just distract shot sand hit tame. It went down easier then I thought, or heard from other posts here, we all thought it be a LOT harder then it was.

After that we did it again next reset for our lv 69 guildie and aside dieing a few during other boss's..they got the tame off on the first go with out issue. Then guild leader got hers... again with no issue. Another go had the healer agro issue but once agro bouncing was delt with the tame went smooth. Repeat easy one shot tames for four more guildies.

That don't include the many others who would ask for runs to also tame em. We never really had issues with the tame at all, its getting there that can be troublesome some times.

I brought a shaman along for bloodlust and earthshield just to make sure things went smoothly, but otherwise I didn't prep with any other buffs. Talked everything over with the group about how the tame was going to go down and everything went smooth as pie.

We had me stand at max range while my boyfriend on his pally pulled the lever. Chromaggy comes out, I distracting shot and plug a few shots in for agg, boyfriend bubbles, shaman pops BL, and Chrom was by my side nice and easy. ^_^

I would say the hardest part is just getting to Chrom, especially if you don't have any coordination between party members set up or have some people who don't necessarily know the boss fights...or if things get glitchy.

I think some people just like the extra haste stuff just as a backup so that way the tame only takes a couple of seconds and you have a lesser chance to screw something up.

I tamed him at 83 or 84 I think?

Bought my way into a save that had him as the next boss and he was still alive.

Ran in, and the tank started attacking not understanding how a tame went. We wiped after I started yelling for them to stop and they finally listened.

Next time healer kept pulling aggro while trying to heal me. Wiped again.

Last time, when it was just me and Chrogg-I ordered everyone else off the blasted floor he was on, Tame went perfectly fine. Popped my Gift of Naruu (was Draenei at the time) and started to tame. Not a single problem. He got me down to about half health before I tamed him.

Except for the people I was running with not understanding how tames actually went, it was one of my easier tames in Cata.

Ran it twice so myself (freshly 85) and my BF (82 at the time) could both tame him. The two of us took a DK with us the first time, but just duo'd our way there the second time. The tame itself was simple (Chromag didn't have NEAR enough time to get to his special abilities, or to cast enough debuffs to morph either of us. Although both of us had hourglass sand on hand just in case =D), and went off flawlessly for both of us without any additional haste/buffs/heals.

We didn't think any of the fight mechanics (with the exception of Razorgore) still presented a problem, but maybe it WAS our foreknowledge of the fights (all three of us raided at 60) making it seem so easy?

*ROFL* That is pure WIN! My guild has never stripped down to run through, but there is at LEAST one Baywatch joke tossed around every time (that and chariots of fire).
"Look! It's David Hassleorc!" - Maij of <Dreadblade Assassins>

On a more topic related note, my guild has been running that place weekly to get interested guild hunters the pet. We only ran into problems the first try (when we stupidly ran into the room with the hunter). We've found it works without incident if you bring along a mage to cast Timewarp (or have a shaman cast Bloodlust) right before the hunter engages and tames alone while everyone else stands outside the room.

True story:

A buddy and me got bored on a Wednesday evening, so we tried to Two-Man the entire Blackwing Lair. So it was me (85 HC geared BM) and him (85 HC geared Def Warrior). We had some problems with Razorgore, downed Vael just before my buddy died, but after that: No problems at all, except it took ages to kill Ebonroc.
Got Chromaggus on my very first tame and together we even killed Nefarian.

It was so damn funny :D

When we turned in the head, people even asked if we killed him in BWD

That's wonderful. You had it easy. Not everyone does. There's really no need to be mean to those of us who like to be better safe than sorry. :/ My first experience was rocky so I was trying to take precautions. There's nothing wrong with that.

It's the overall tone of your first post, plus the title. It feels like you're looking down at those who do play it safe than sorry. Plus it was right after I posted about my Chromaggus tame how I used as much haste as possible. That's all.

Your story was fine. But it was what I quoted that was offensive to me. I'm sorry if you didn't mean for it to come off like that but thats how it came off to me. It was posted right after My proud Chromaggus tame on a very sensitive day for me.

100 "so I just flew by <zone> and happened to see <mob>" stories of a tame doesn't make one person's hours/days/weeks-long camp any less rewarding. Also, showing up SUPER prepared and not needing some of your supplies >>>> going home with no pet and a hefty repair bill. =D

As she sort of mentioned in her reply, yesterday was kind of a rough day for her, and the highlight of that day was her taming Chromaggus on Jessibelle. Just give her some leeway (and :hug:s - those are important too!) and try to be understanding.
