This is going to rock so very awesomely. They are keeping true to their words about broadening out the experience of 1-58. From the looks of things, it'll probably be a battle for the undercity kinda event. We need so many more of those... of all the questlines I've played in wow, the cut scenes and the "events" like the battle for the undercity or the battle of lights hope chapel were my absolute favorite. I'll admit I'm a SC/WC series RTS fan and these quests are the closest they have come to "playing through a cutscene" they have come in the game.

I greatly look forward to reclaiming the Echo Isles. Now I'm really really hoping that come Cata, they will be their own zone and starting area for the Trolls, that'd be fugging awesome.

I actually didn't care too much for the Battle of the Undercity... for exactly the reason you just mentioned. You're running around in a cutscene, and nothing you do really matters. Jaina and Varian can take the place, with or without your help, and even you are completely invincible. One of the most epic quests in the game for me, and consequently, one of my favorites, was the Battle for Darrowshire. You battled as part of an army, but you (and your raid) were what mattered. The NPCs were reliant on you to get them through the battle. I feel they dropped the ball on Wrathgate and the Battle for the Undercity, neither of which are really participatory. So, I rather hope that Gnomer's not like that, but I'm not optimistic. x_x

That was one thing I liked about LOTRO that WoW could learn from. Having epic Cutscene battles where you have to defend an area or kill a certain number of mobs is very emersing and fun. I would like to see more of these Instance quests in the WoW world.

I don't think we should get ahead of ourselves. It would be epic to retake gnomer, but that's not what what is happening here. We're retaking the surface. So while we may see gnomer as a city in cat, its been suggested that these are merely going to be starter zones fro trolls and gnomes. We won't know until it happens, but I don't know how high we should get our hopes up just yet. What worried me a little is that the troll area is right where the low level tigers are. They might end up going away if a city goes there or if we're lucky we'll get a lot of new ones with different skins.

I doubt that we'll be having full Capital cities out there for the Gnomes and Trolls, but even an event to retake the area as smaller quest hubs would be neat. I am curious as to how all this will go down, though. Having these events take place in Dun Morogh and Durotar... two easily accessible areas ... even as a level 80 questline, these newbie areas are going to be flooded, not just with participants, but also viewers. I know we've come a long way since the Gates of AQ, but golly. I still remember all that crashing.

And your concern about the low level tigers is probably valid.

Really looking forwards to all of it. Both for troll and gnome. :D

I still have my fingers crossed that we'll start seeing more in-game cinematics for events like these like what they did for wrath gate.
Sometimes I go back to Alexstrasza just for the purpose of watching the wrath gate again (same goes for the fountain in Dal to watch the fall of the lich king). :]
