New ways to get unique models

What do you think would make new interesting ways to get unique pet models. Right now most unique beasts are either a rare mob or a dungeon boss. I think it would be interesting for a unique model to not only be rare, but be hidden somehow. There could be some kind of place like the area under the whirlpool in darkshore. (of course once everyone knows where it is, it wouldn't really be hidden anymore)

Statues like the ghost saber. Find a statue, and have a chance at it summoning a tamable pet, and like the ghost saber, give it a low chance to drop a 1 charge summon item of itself. Not really new method, but one that only 1 pet in the games has.

With Azeroth being opened up now by the addition of flying, I totally think Blizzard should add random mobs up in the unpopulated areas of the world....the places you fly over between the mountains, and the old 'hidden areas' (that aren't hidden anymore) that used to be hard to reach. Or deep in the sea that surrounds continents. So many possibilities for just throwing a totally random beast or mob out in those types of places where you don't expect to run into anything.

I've actually always liked this idea for introducing at least one "common" spirit beast. I don't like having a whole pet family that only consists of rares and think there should be one for people that just want a spirit beast for utility (spirit mend ftw!) but can't or don't enjoy to camp. But of course it would kind of be against the whole spirit beast idea to just have a herd of them somewhere or even one that just hangs around all the time. So I like the idea of a sacred grove or something like that. If you go in and mess with it a bit you anger it's guardian and he turns up to bite your butt and then you tame him. That would be a nice way to make a spirit beast easily available while still differenciating it from ordinary beasts.

Hmm, maybe a spirit beast that can only be accessed by doing a difficult questline. By difficult, I'm talking about something like Benediction/Anathemah, Rhok'delar, the druid swim form quest, etc.

Swift Flight you mean which was very entertaining. The old sealion quest chain however, particualrly diving off Silverpine prior to being given it free was a pain in the ass.

I like Vephriel's and Cialbi's ideas both; I've always loved the idea of a "quest line" pet, called "legendary" but only different in appearance.

The idea of having random tameables in the "border zones" would be awesome as well; some of those places just seem so empty. Mind you, I LOVE some of the random stuff that's there now; there's a huge lake, tent and canoe with some trees where the flat area between Barrens, Mulgore, Feralas & 1k Needles used to be, and the empty zone (literally its own zone) near Desolace is now filled with water and has a burning island full of random Alliance NPCS and cats... O.o

I alwyas thought a quest line like this would be fun. Maybe a 3 part quest, where you have to free an animal, quest with the animal (It controls it's own actions), then kill a boss with the animal (You control it's actions). Then the animal would decided to be your companion and accompany you on further quests. I also thougth it would be fun to be able to decide what talent tree your animal was going to use. Then any animal could be any tree, kind of like your toon. This would be a great option for this "legendary" pet. Cunning bear anyone? What about a Tenacity dragonhawk. Or maybe a ferocious turtle? Too bad Blizz doesn't want any class specific quests anymore.

I'm actually sick of "Oh, hey, finally, that's a model/colour I want.. Oh, nice, rare... Oh, AND a 12hr+ respawn time?"
Rares aren't BAD (I have several), but so far Sambas and Krush are the only 2 models that have REALLY woo'ed me. And they're both highly sought after rares. Awesome possum. My bf nearly cried with joy when I told him Maddex's model wouldn't be rare anymore. I know what he's doing right after patch...

So something unique and interesting that ISN'T a rare spawn, but hard to obtain, would be ok with me (I'm a persistent little bugger when I decide I want something).

I actually really hope that they bring back Ohgan'aka (the little red raptor) from the new STV quests. If she's hostile and tameable, I will tame--not because of whatever model she might use, but because of the lore and bond you built with her during the quests.

I'm still wondering what happened to her :(

It wouldn't be a class-specific quest if it just HAPPENED to involve killing (or taming) a spirit beast at the very end... I really like the idea of a long chain quest that gives people who don't have the time to camp for hours an option for picking up a spirit beast of their very own.

I'm in agreement with the 'things sequestered in hidden areas' idea. I love these little zones and subzones you need to fly to get into. I'd love to see some actual stuff in some of them. There's the red warp stalkers and blue boars and golden nether rays in Blade's Edge, after all! Why not take that sort of idea and put it somewhere that people don't have a reason to be in? Sequester a couple rares away, maybe some unusual/unique skins that aren't rare.

It worked for Hawkbane, way back when. :D

A simple solution would be to make the ghost saber a spirit beast, but I guess that wouldn't be fair to non-BM hunters. Maybe a similar mechanic in a Wrath or Cataclysm zone?

Hmm...wouldn't it be fun if the Canopic Jar had a chance to spawn a tameable spirit beast?

While this sounds fun in theory, in reality it will go like this, just like any new models:
1. New models added on PTR.
2. New models datamined and announced on MMO
3. Everyone search frantically for a few days
4. Spawn locations discovered and announced
5. It spreads :(

A readily accessible(or quested) spirit beast would be great though for those who don't enjoy the camping.

Oh, and..
more stable slots... please :P

Well I think a common spirit beast would be a good idea Im no fan of them but if someone wanted one but did not want to spend all their time camping it would be helpful. Not every one wants to waste their time camping for days.

I had previously had an idea about still being able to fish up the hydra boss in ZG, but his old spawn area is gone. >_< On the plus side, this got me thinking about more "ghosty" beasts: spirit beasts or ghostly versions of their previous selves. Having the ghost hydra in ZG would be pretty fitting. There's TONS of ruins and graveyards around Azeroth, so there's plenty of room for expansion.

Are the Barrow dens in Moonglade used for anything still? That'd be a good location for some spirit beasts. Who would look? :D

I really like the idea of a long questline where at the end other classes can kill or perhaps use some itemto complete the quest on the spirit beast or hunters can choose to tame it. It would still take some effort to get, but be more accessible to casuals who can't spend long periods of time camping. Instead they could work on it a little each day.

I also like the idea because I loved doing the questline to get my paladin mount back in the day. All that work helped me bound with her. There is a sense of satisfaction after doign the work to getting your reward just like after you do your camping and the rare is there!

edit: It would also give some cool lore about the spirit beast. Part of the reason I love loque'nahak so much is the fact he's horkoa's mate. After I got him we did the questline together to free her. :D
