Random Pondering: Pet Genders?

It's late and I can't sleep so I'm thinking of miscellaneous discussion topics.
I was just curious about how everyone thinks when it comes to the chosen genders of your hunter's pets.
For example, all of Veph's pets are male. I can't even really consider having a female pet for her, it would just be
weird. I honestly can't say with any certainty of why that is...I have other female hunter characters, and they have some female pets. When I roll a male hunter, he usually has more female pets though. For Vephriel however, I think as my main character I'm just old fashioned in the sense that a male guardian seems like a strong, protective presence. That sort of chivalry appeals to me I suppose. Easier to bond with. Something along those lines, haha.
Does anyone else have that sort of preference for one type or another? Or are there certain species/models of pets that you can only see as one gender?

I think of all mine as male, too. I don't know why. I have had both male and female dogs irl, and males just seem more clueless, jovial and happy-go-lucky. The females seemed to think, and be more intelligent, but I just love those goofy males
I seriously thought about telling PetEmote to make Karoma female, as the original name seems female, but it didn't fit.
Well, because Karoma seems female,
and because I think of the wild Karoma as sort of a "wolf mother." That, and after I tamed it, I came back the next day, WoW crashed and I came back in to find that I was dead with Karoma standing on my corpse >.> I thought superstitiously that maybe it was telling me "WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME A MALE PET," but trying it as female didn't work.
So yeah, all my pets are male except Karoma (Shiver), who is a multiple transgender apparently. I should probably specifically try taming a pet as a "female" and run with awhile to see what happens!

All my pets are male. I also cant see them any other way. My Hunter just doesn't seem to fit with a female pet. I can only see Core hounds as male. I have no idea why. I also have a preference to use Devilsaurs. And I cant see them as anything but Male. O_o...

Oh, I completely understand where you're coming from there! I had similar problems with Gondria. As the wild mob, Gondria is definitely female to me. The name is feminine, and just her presence itself can only be seen as a girl. However, after I tamed her (multiple times in fact), I wanted to make her a male but I struggled trying to adjust to that different view. On my most recent tame of her (for permanent I think this time), I finally was able to look at the pet and truly see a male persona hiding underneath. Once I found the perfect name and personality, it clicked immediately and now I don't have any sort of bizarre feminine vibes from him anymore.

My hyenas are all female. My cats are female. Loque is of course male. Skoll is female, but I that was purposeful on my part, because in the wild I think of him as male. My wolves are male. Karoma in the wild I think of as female, but tamed he's Wolf's spirit form so male. My condor, raptor and worm are all male. My silithid ant is female. When I tamed the Zeke for the pet challenge he was male. The scorpid for the current challenge is male as well. My original turtle was female, named after the turtle stuffed animal my mom gave me. Now that he's got the new ancient turtle model I think of him as male and definitely needing a name change. My one male hunter has a female dragonhawk named Isoboe.
While I have more of a spread between the two than I thought, I think my pets tend to default to male. Except for cats and hyenas, they are female.

Oh yes, Gondria too! The name seems so female, but again...
On a related note, the first time I got mine, I didn't click with it after awhile--and I think it's partially because I still thought of it as "Gondria" which just seems (to me) like such a horribly ugly name >.<

I've always seen Jadefang as female, but I often see her referred to as a male by others here, and I suppose it could go either way with a pile of rocks.
And surprisingly, thinking about it now, I think my main huntress, Vitani's, stables are pretty balanced between male and female pets. Chromaggus I've always seen as male until I named her Maleficent. ^_^
With some of my pets, their gender and name comes to me right away, or I already know it from how I see them. With others, I have to think about it and discover it--sometimes pet emote helps with that!
Sometimes just the emotes that pet emote will produce after initially taming a pet make me go "Oh! You're definitely not male." and I'll reset the pet to female. Maybe I'm just weird like that though, who knows!
Edit: Also, I had always predicted that my Madexx tame would be male. The name Madexx is strong and masculine sounding, and the black skin is very powerful looking, however, when I tamed mine and asked my boyfriend for help, he found Selkhet, the Egyptian scorpion goddess. He even tried making the name more manly sounding for me, but the name clicked so well that my black Madexx was, deep down, female.

The bulk of my pets are female. I just seem to click more with female pets. I do have a few male pets I love, such as Rune and Mahesha (Sambas) on Teigan and Monsoon (blue raptor) and Tooru (Skoll) on Grushdeva. But, by and large my pets are girls.

I find this topic fascinating for some reason.

It's so interesting to hear how everyone's views and preferences differ.

For me, with some pets it's obvious; others it takes a little bit to pick up the "vibe" I get from them. Daishar has been female since the day she and Tahlian met. Clayburn is male. I tamed the black sabercat with the original intention of the pet being female...but after looking at the expression on the cat's face (and realizing that its markings rather made it look like that cat just might be the one that plans to kill Tahl as he sleeps

), I wound up getting a very strong "so not a girl, thanks" vibe from the pet, and wound up naming him Moriarty.

A mage friend of mine had a macro made in which he made a portal for a player and it would say for whom it was also specifying the gender. When he used it on my pets we could tell whether it would be a male or female. was fun

can't remember the macro though

PERFECT name for him!! I tamed that cat with the intention of using it frequently, and abandoned it an hour later--the creepy evil vibe was just too strong o.o He looks plain SINISTER!

Most of mine are male...I'm not sure why, because I usually chill with them a few minutes or more to get a 'feel' for which gender I think they are, and what sort of name might suit them. I've had a few where the gender decides itself, so to speak--when you realize mid-camp you're calling it 'he' or 'she' in your mind.
Exceptions to my menfolk: Anima (Gondria), Kizuka (Karoma), Laima (Jadefang), Nidawi (Sunblade Dragonhawk).

Hmm... I have a mix, but they're male for the most part. I tend to decide whether a pet is male or female based on their family and models. Wolves are male to me (but the worg model can be female in some cases). Cats are female ( Except, obviously, lions). Carrion Birds and birds of prey are a bit more diverse... for carrion birds, the two headed models and the one druid model are female to me, but the condors and buzzards are male. Owls and parrots are female, but the druid model and eagle birds of prey are male. Outland boars are male, but the regular ones I can see as either. My Corehound and Devilsaur are most definately male. And the old turtles are all male to me, as well as Terrorpene, but I see Ghamoo-ra as female.

For my hunters, they are mixed. I tend to lean toward female but I have a good mix. The names seem to sway me on their gender. For the Rares I tend to keep their names, so it drive me for their gender. Araga - female, Haarka - female, Krush - male Terrorpene - male. I usually play with a new pet for a while and find a name for them eventually based on how we play and their animation. This also swings me to their gender as well.

I tend toward males, myself, though unless I get a definite 'vibe' off a pet, I usually let PetEmote decide for me. Ainamiss, for instance, was female, and damn what PE said. Same with Huhuran. On the other hand, PetEmote told me Kurasu's Arcturis was female, and though I haven't named her yet, so she is.
Oddly enough, at least to me, Aloicious seems to be collecting females. His croc was female from the day I tamed her in my head. Bayne and his bat are female as well. For that matter, so is his tallstrider. I'm not completely sure why the difference; maybe because of a difference in character in my head.
