well logged in this morning to a gm message saying your guild name has been replace and you will be logged out to facilitate it.

logged back in and saw this!

Pre cata my priest was in a guild called <Blackrocks full GTFO> now if you dont know anything about Blackrock, that is its motto (Blackrocks full GTFO) you see it typed atleast 100 times a day on horde side. Now we were a purely pvp guild and would gank the crap out of people. I think we griefed someone way to much and they reported our guild name. Yep you betcha they made us change it. So lame, we never got it back. lol, but hey, we did what we set out to do and that was wipe the floor with people so much they hated us.

WHAT?!?! SERIOUSLY?!?! Whoever reported your name should be ashamed of themselves. And whichever GM made you change it should be more ashamed. How can you be all pissy about a guild name being violent when you're playing a game that has NPC's paying you to murder unsuspecting creatures and humanoids (called *quests*) and that also lets you form gangs to perform home invasions that involve murdering the home owners for their stuff (also known as *raiding*)? Seriously, if whoever reported your guild name is reading this, GET OVER IT.

Apparently there are new rules for guild names as of January 1st.
My guild had a forced name change a few days ago, and the GM said something about it having a name in it, like a persons name. Guild name was <Eva stole my nintendo>.
If we got reported by some jerks, or if they have been shuffling through Guilds to find inappropriate names I do not know.
Anyway, we liked that name. :<

Our new name is <Death follows>.

Not sure if guild names run the same way as player names, but Blizz seems to take the "if it offends somebody, it goes" route with players' names. Not that I blame 'em, but it's still sort of odd some times.

A bunch of RL friends rolled rogue alts on an RP PVP server, and we named them all after snakes. I don't remember them exactly, but there was a version of "adder," somebody named something-"cobra," something with "rattler" in it. Anywho, "cottonmouth" eventually got reported and had his name changed to "cotton" for being a drug reference.

Actually on topic, your new guild name is awesome. =D

People have gotten reported for having <Team Rocket> or <Johto League>

I'm surprised my guild's name has lasted through at least 2 MMO's including WoW from beta so far. No Holy Roller types reporting us for promoting alcohol abuse on my server.

I find it funny that I've reported a guild name on my server called <The Blood Knights> several times, since I do believe you cannot have a guild name that is the name of a lore group in the game. >> Blizzard hasn't done anything about it. Yet anyways.

It blows my mind that some people find that name too violent :S

I don't think thats against their naming policies. You can have that kind of guild name. I asked a GM about it. You just can't have names of copyrighted things outside of WoW such as Pokemon or something. Almost every guild on my server would have to be changed, Aleu, if it were against the RP Naming Rules blizzard has set. We have multiple Stormwind Guards. We got Ashenvale Sentinels. We got Stromgarde. We've got everything under the sun, even Twilight Cultist guilds.

In a game where a massive dragon just flew around destroying everything and incinerating thousands of helpless victims, where you accidentally fly over the opposing faction's city while doing archaeology and then upon landing some total asshar beats the shiz out of you for no apparent reason. Explain to me how that works again? XD

That's a pretty cool name though, kind of turns it into a funny inside joke for the guild.

Pretty much.

Seems pretty hypocritical of Blizzard to have more pop culture references than The Simpsons and Family Guy combined in the game, yet get pissy about people naming themselves, their pets, or their guilds after things from shows, cartoons, animes, movies, books, etc. They can't say that they're afraid of being sued for it, since all that's being used is the name and no one's claiming to own it or use it to make money.
