I know we've got a lot of writers/creators here, so...anybody ever been to TVTropes.org ?

Just look up any show/book/movie/anime to get the ball rolling. The links will begin, and you will not stop reading. Trust me. This stuff is awesome, though :D

YES YES YES.

Seriously, I spend hours on that wiki. It's true; it's damn addicting. And yes, it ruined my vocabulary, too; it's hard to describe works or characters without tossing a trope name or two in there.

My contributor page! :D

Also, it's TVTropes.org, might wanna change that in your link-description.

Aah, my apologies. Fixed.

Yeah I spend SO much time here, it's insane. And I agree, I have appropriated terms into my vocabulary and I confuse people when I use them. (Though I have used 'The Big Bad' for YEARS before I even knew about this place).

Also a great place to find books/movies/anime/whatever with tropes you enjoy. I'm a sucker for Big Brother Instinct and Promotion to Parent for example....helps you find chars and stories you enjoy :D

Tvtropes has stolen many of my precious hours.

In a happier, more optimistic youth, I once believed I could read every entry...

I. LOVE. THIS. SITE. I spend many hours listlessly browsing through tropes for whatever reason. TV Tropes will ruin your life? Bah, I say! It will make you harder. Better. Faster. Stronger.

Oh, and I'm also a Troper. Sometimes.

Oh dear...i can't go on this site, because one friend at school gets it ripped out of him (taken the mick out of) even for little things that are extremely stupid. I mean, i don't agree with bullying, but when people take the mick out this child he always says "dude not funny trope lawl" and that's just as annoying as seeing my friend getting bullied. The people that bully him disregard it, but for some reason it just gets right on my nerves...Probably because i find it extremely immature, and he always tries to act extremely mature (He fails at this even more so by not taking his coat off for 10 minutes in an assembly. But saying that he does have autism, so no one can really blame him for the way he behaves, but the teachers are finding it extremely annoying and one teacher today even said that if he carries on he might even get excluded but he only has to take the cat off for 10 minutes, assembly finishes and can put it back on. He was even perma banned...I mean excluded from middle school, and he really shouldn't take the risk in upper school, seeing as he's studying for GCSE's)

But anywho, kind of off topic there, and i hope i haven't offended anyone by talking about his issues and the way i may have worded it. I just s'pose in my mind TV tropes should stay on TV/internet, it's like bringing a meme into the RL, although at first meme's can be funny IRL...Tropes, in my opinion, can't.

I'm...not really sure what you're saying, Un'Goro. This site isn't a site for memes, for the most part (a few memes are also tropes, but that isnt' the case for all of them).

A trope is essentially a classically used character type, plot line, etc etc. Sometimes its' cliche, sometimes it's not. But none of them are intended as being cruel or being jokes, just observations of themes that are repeatedly used in a wide variety of movies, shows, books, games, and comics. So I'm a bit confused by your post O_o;

Well, i'm not sure if you know of every trope, but there's that "dude not funny trope" (i assume that's the one) and my friend always uses it...him and another friend go on this trope website and even this other friend admitted that the guy i spoke about in the last post has killed "dude not funny trope".

I even lost it one day because "dude not funny trope" isn't even funny, which in my mind, seems the only reason it's there seeing as the context my friend uses it in, seems as if it's only there to get a laugh or two.

Really all i'm saying is that my friend has overused "dude not funny trope" and i just don't think i would be able to find tropes amusing in anyway at all, seeing as they're so easy to kill.

Oh gosh, thank you! I used to read it a while back, but then I forgot the name of the place. *dives into the goodness*

Hrm...well to each his/her own I suppose. It sounds like it's just this person going overboard that's ruining the idea of tropes for you, and not the tropes themselves...but hey, I can't force you to read'em after all :)

Me personally, I love this site just because I love reading and writing. Stories are like...my thing. So seeing all these records of different character and plot types, it's like an encyclopedia of awesome.
