The Great and Terrible Karoma Camp UPDATED!

Making a board because it seems to help the wait a bit - and I need a place to stick my whining so I'm not throwing it all over the forums. ;P

Been camping on and off for close to four days now. I've done long grinds before(Netherwing Eggs, Khorium for my helicopter) and just like the previous ones, it's at the point where every node, tree, log and passing gryphon looks like a tiny Karoma. If you could kick your mount to go faster, my poor hippogryph would have holes in her sides. I hate that I can't be everywhere at once, but I hate even more that no one in the zone has any idea where or what she is. No one says anything, except for a few very kind hunters who are going through the same thing, and yet for all the playing dumb the server does she turns up dead every time.

That's pretty selfish, I know, but just like the Khorium grind, I want to get out of the Highlands and never, ever go back ever again.

Karoma count: 3!
Sambas count: 1*
Killed: 2
Tamed: 1!

Now I just need a name. :D :D :D

*False alarm, some guy camping for Karoma had his out. Set off my NPCscan as well as giving me a heart attack because of the red dot on the minimap.

Found and killed Tarvus the Vile. He's incredibly funky-looking.

Dropped leather boots I can't and wouldn't use, but might be able to sell or give away.

No Karoma yet, but I have a priest looking out for me now. A little short on reading material, so I might just draw.

Drawing is fun ;)
I wish you the best of luck. Here's hoping they'll pop up alive for you soon. :)

Thanks for the luck, guys. :) I'm getting a little too wound up over this so I'm gonna take it easy from now on. If I find her, I find her, and if I don't, it's not the end of the world. She'll find me if she wants to be found.

Unfortunately I said the same thing about Netherwing Eggs and Khorium and they both drove me insane anyways. ;P

Yup, what is meant to be will be! Good Luck!

I was finding boat loads of Netherwing Eggs when I was grinding out the rep. My guild was telling me to STFU after I found my 50th one in a few hours! lol

The Netherwing grind was horrible for me. I had skinning but I didn't level it up, so it was just dailies and then eggs. Nothing but eggs. All day, every day. Eggs in the mines, eggs by the crystals, eggs from mobs, eggs I miss because my friend has sharper eyes than I do.

When I finally got my Netherdrake, I was flying in Netherstorm and spotted the little pack of drakes there. Eggs everywhere!. Why couldn't I have flown over there instead?

As an update, I've had a bit of advice from a well-meaning warlock and one hunter telling me that he has Karoma but she's stupid.

I was told to wait around until school gets out and try offering then, since apparently a lot of kids will take 900g over a 25g grey drop. And they should, considering the offer also includes my soul as a complimentary paperweight and the warm, fuzzy feeling of having helped somebody and gotten close to 1k out of it.

As for the hunter, idk man. If you don't like her, why keep her? I don't really like BM, so it's doubly frustrating that a)I'm camping my butt off(and possibly my sanity as well) and b)doing it for a pet I have to be in a spec I don't really like to use. I'm glad you have her and thank you for telling me so, but there's no sense in keeping a pet you don't want.

Hi,

I really feel your pain! I'm on Day 20 camping Aeonaxx, spawned 3 times and missed every one of them. Missed the second by literally 2-3 seconds. Persistence is the only way we can achieve our rare tames or in my case a rare mount. When you feel like giving up, just tab out and come to the forums and read the success stories, that's what I do and I feel inspired to press on. :)

LOL I love how people give unwanted advice like that.

Good luck. I've spotted Karoma twice-once I tamed for myself and the other I freeze-trapped to hold for a random hunter I messaged who told me that they wanted him. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find him again now that my best friend is a high enough level to actually tame him-and she is gah-gah over this pet. Karoma is her holy grail of pets. >_<

I found my first Karoma around midday. A druid had spotted him and did a shout out that he was up-about 30 mins after I had dinged 85. IT was fate! The second one that I found was about this time early one morning.

Best times to hunt would be school days I would think, early in the morn or late in the evening, but that is just my thinking, less people to compete with.

Good luck, Karoma is a gorgeous pet and certainly worth it!

I've definitely never really wanted a Spirit Beast this badly. I thought Loque was silly-looking and the transparent sparkly look of Gondria and Arcturis wasn't doing it for me. I had Skoll but so did a 'rival' of mine and I ended up letting him go so I could be 'different'. I tamed Ghostcrawler since the poor fellow never gets any love and I, for one, quite like him, but Karoma...geez. This is the SB for me apparently, and it's a shame there's so much fuss over her not being the 'real' ghost wolf.

Yeah, she's not the original. I don't care. Like, I really don't. I love the way she looks and I'll camp her until the day I die if I have to. I wish I could have gotten the 'original' spirit wolf, but I played a druid back then and I had next to no shaman friends, so I missed my chance. I can't get the abandon macro right enough to nab one of the wolves in Ashenvale for vanity purposes, so my choices are limited at best.

I'm amusing myself by sacrificing critters and making pleas to the rare spawn gods. It seems to work every other time people do it, so maybe it'll work for me. :P I'll have to dig out a companion pet I consider 'lucky'. It's not really a matter of her spawning - I know she will, I've seen it happen - it's just a matter of me being there when she does.

I'm not going to give up this time around, though. The longer I camp, the better my chances of finding her, and the sooner I can leave the Highlands forever and go afk in Orgrimmar happy as a clam.

Good luck, hope Karoma spawns soon. I found mine on a flyover earlyish (07:00 server time), but Sambas I camped for 12 hours almost solid, he spawned 10 minutes before I was going to call it a night, and luckily no-one interrupted or killed him. I know how it feels though, you don't want to leave incase the rare spawns, it's exactly like that with the TLPD and me at the moment (missed him by minutes yesterday :()

Thanks for the luck. :) I know exactly how that 'missed them by minutes' thing feels. The first time I spotted Karoma she was in the process of being killed by a night elf hunter, and I liked her enough to decide to hunt her down myself. In retrospect, if I hadn't stopped to mine elementium she could have been mine then.

The second time I found her I was messing around on a Nesingwary alt, got bored, and logged back in to do one last loop before bed. NPCscan went off and Silverdragon flipped and I tabbed back in as fast as I could(I usually tab out while the loading screen is up, since it tends to take a while) but she was dead behind me. :/ If I had just stayed logged in instead of wasting ten minutes on an alt, she would have spawned right on top of me. It's infuriating when it happens once, even more so when it happens twice. But I won't get anywhere dwelling on the past and 'what ifs' are rarely helpful in any way, so I'm focusing on when she'll spawn for me next.

Good luck with your Time-lost hunt! His name seems fairly appropriate when you think of how long people camp him - so much time lost. ;P

Karoma, my birthday is on the 25th. :( I don't think I'm inviting you to my party unless you show up soon.

hey! i saw where you said you killed tarvus, and rushed down here to post before reading the rest of the thread so i hope this isn't redundant. i don't know about your server's economy, but the item he drops sells for about 2k on my server. might help your gold situation!

Good luck. It's a tough camp for both Karoma and Sambas. High traffic area with two gorgeous pets. :/ I hope you get him soon. Or her! I tend to think of the rares as a unique species, so all interpretations fit.

::headdesk:: hope you're not getting what I am... another hunter who tamed Sambas a while back wandering around his spawn points, setting off my NPC scan and freaking me out...

I get it; you tame him and want to use him, but c'mon, be fair-- you have to know it is setting off alarms... just use another pet in the Twilight Highlands...

::irritated sigh::

Sending Karoma shaped luck to the OP...

Is he a night elf hunter? Because he was the one who set off my NPCScan as well when I was doing rounds a few days ago - he was the 'false alarm'. :P He whispered me on an alt wishing me good luck and saying he wasn't looking for Karoma, but he sat at one of her spawn points for an awfully long time...

Thankfully, I didn't see him any more after that. If it's the same guy, I'm sorry that he's still causing trouble. :(

Your Karoma-shaped luck is much appreciated. ;) My dungeon/roleplay buddy threw me an invite for randoms to make me feel better and I grudgingly accepted - I found this when I was on my way back to the stables to pull out my cat:
