a friendly reminder

with all the users on these forums some really good and interesting topics tend to get derailed by another conversation.
now a little bit of sillyness is okay but if it ends up changing the conversation to a different topic then mania and the moderaors have every right to lock it at their discretion and this can be upsetting if it was a really good discussion before the derailing.
please do use caution and think before you make a post so that we ma enjoy the discussion without all the subtopics that detract from the original.

Or how about we let the mods handle that, Zang?
The laid back attitude and constant derailment is what has made these forums so fun, and into what they are. Sure, we shouldn't go over the top, but a little discussion about lolkittehs every now and then is just healthy.

I see both points but I think what Zangor is trying to say nicely is that a few times things have gone to far and result in a flame war.

that and its happening in important support and testing threads that mania and others use to get feedback and information

And if you have something important to say that's relevant to the original topic nobody's stopping you. but whining about derailing isn't really that relevant, now, is it? (Talking about the Rank Brainstorm thread, aye?)

im not trying to come off as whining about it.....i was making a simple short topic to give users some advice. whether they choose to follow i or ignore it is up to them

I'd also like to point out that feedback hadn't been posted for a good while. At that point, Mania had gotten out of it what she wanted. Yeah, one should try to keep threads on topic (We've had Veph talk to a few of us before and we worked on it.) but I should also point out it's a community full of insane, hunter obsessed people. Be glad it dissolves into flame wars like some forums do, and just into general silliness.
So, in short: Yeah, there are certain situations where it isn't appropriate, but it does tend to be inevitable, and if it ever gets to be a problem, officials will blow the whistle.
And okay, Zang. We aren't accusing you of whining, we (The Derailers) are just explaining our side of the story.

A friendly reminder about forum etiquette in the forum support board is completely appropriate. Thank you, Zangor.
If you - and I mean anybody 'you' here - see a specific instance of a thread going off-course in a way that is hurting discussion, please do let the mods know about it (preferably through the Report button) so we can deal with it. As Saturo says, a friendly reminder in the derailed thread itself can derail the thread even more than the original derailment.

Thanks Mania. It's appalling to see some of the comments here and how nasty they were. Zangor was in the right to say something, IMHO and I agree 100%.

The moderators here tend to keep said important threads from being derailed by deleting posts. Hence, those really aren't the concern.
Still, point is taken. I'll be more careful in the future.

I assume you mean the opposite

However, some people seem to disagree. Maybe I'm too used to seeing flaming on other forums?
