The hunt for Deathmaw and Olm (EDIT: TAMED!!!)

I parked myself in Felwood last night when I logged off. Logged on and did a quick sweep for Olm with no luck.
Just went to Burning Steppes to look for Deathmaw- hung out around here for about an hour and a half, decided to go back to Felwood to do a quick sweep for Olm.
As I get to the spot, I see an 85 Hunter from the opposite faction with an 85 warrior and an 85 druid. The warrior comes up and starts emotiong /no /pat /no /pat /no /shoo /no /no etc etc etc. Then he proceeds to try to kill me from a tree, and follows me around relentlessly as I do my sweep, and continues to do so even after I have left the area. I logged over to my opposite faction hunter to let them know that the pets are tameable by anyone of either faction, and I had a few choice words for him and his gf, but whatever.
I just don't understand people like that. I was there, I left, I came back. I see them there- big deal, if they get Olm, great, if not, oh well. But don't sit there and go off on me just because you girlfriend is a "huntard" and can't find her own pets by herself. I'm not going to sit there and steal a tame from someone, nor am I going to kill Olm off if I see him and she's taming (although after her boyfriend's behavior it is certainly tempting.)
Sigh. I've already had a rough day. Please wish me luck on finding someone tonight. >.< I'm back to looking for Deathmaw for now.
EDIT:
Tamed! Screenshots on page 2 of this thread!

I see postings mentioning someone doing this for a friend's hunter (shooing others off, killing them, whatever), and the board tends to cheer. So the way I look at it, they were there first, so you shouldn't really get too upset about the fact that yes, they are going to attempt to /shoo you if you're there for the same rare.
That might just be my view of it, though. If I see someone camping a pet, whether they're from my faction or not, I tend to /luck them and move on. Maybe I'm just too easygoing when it comes to tames.

Don't get me wrong- I fully agree I left, she was there first. I also like when others help each other out- but it was the relentless following me around and trying to kill me I didn't agree with - when I was there for less than three minutes. There's looking out for a rare spawn, and then there's just plain rude.
As I said, I'm looking for Deathmaw for now, and then if they are still there later I may try for the ZA Dragonhawk. We shall see.

I am not on a PvP server, but if I was and someone was there at my "camp" and it looked like they might be going to try and beat me to a pet... then I might call in others to shoo them off by trying to kill them.
I am all for me camping spot A while an opposing faction camped spot B, so don't get me wrong...
When you run on a PvP server it is a risk you take... which is the reason I do not play on one.
In your story though... it seems the non-hunter might have been being a jerk... and maybe even trying to basically flex his muscles and beat on his chest like a gorilla... because his girlfriend was there.

I only ever ran into one grief-er. That was when I was camping Arcticus. Really obnoxious alliance player. I ended up taming him while he was AFK and proceeded to summon and dismiss him repeatedly right in front of this guy. Ah, justice.

Hahaha that is true. I used to play on a pve realm but got bored with it. I still prefer pvp over pve- but there are those things like this that get furstrated. In fact, I see that you have toons on Aerie Peak- that's where I started.

The way I have always played it, if someone was there before you...then they have rights to the tame before you because in all honesty they have been waiting there longer then you have. Its just the respectable thing to do is move on, and try the area again to see if they have left after awhile. (Ive had the -same- exact hunters come check up on me for hours while I waited for some tames. Heh.)
But I will agree that getting her friends and BF to sit there and chase people off with the /shoo /no ect commands and even following around to kill you is just plain rude. Specially if you decided to leave of your own accord. Now if you had stuck around for a bit even with her being there...eh, even I might have shot at you once or twice to give you a nudge to leave. Heh. But chasing you out of the area to still kill you is totally not cool and going too far.
But yeah. As far as I am concerned, if I had been there first I'd had given you a chance to leave. If you hadnt, then I would have shot at you a few times. But in most cases alot of hunters usually go by the same code, First come - First served. But I *always* give people a chance to leave of their own accord.

Oh, yes - because what Araela really needed today was just one more immature teen harassing her
Well, wishing you luck on Deathmaw!

Woot! I got Deathmaw last night just before I was logging off. I had decided to take a break and hubby and I went and 2-manned ZA so I could get the Dragonhawk and so we could get the achievement on those toons, hearthed back to New Kargath in the Badlands, flew down, and NPCScan went off as well as my macro spam

I'll post a pic later- omw to my student teaching internship right now.

I don't really agree in that I tend to camp for hours, log and then start the camp again. If someone else is there when I log back in, I just wish them luck... and keep on camping. You have no idea how long someone has been campng for a pet-they could have been there for five mins where as you were there for hours before you last logged.
I look at it as first come first serve. If a pet has multiple spawn points and someone is camping one spot, or even 'my spot' where I was camping before I logged, I'll move on to the next spawn, or keep patrolling. First to find is first to find.
If the pet has one spawn point, I'll camp it. I have no idea how long the other player plans to stay on-what if they log out a few mins after I leave? Then I was being 'noble' for someone who wasn't going to stay.
Then again though, I wouldn't be rude about it, by telling them to /shoo, /no or whatever. I'm not Pvp so I don't have to worry about them trying to kill me.
I did this for Sambas. Had one spawn point I was camping, and there were alliance hunters on the other three, we chatted in general while we waited for him to show. Late into the evening, after the other alli's except one had given up and logged, a little goblin hunter came up beside me and started laying down traps nonstop to pick up Sambas first if he spawned. I finally got pissed enough with their behavior that I left-and flew up to the otherspawn point where Sambas was just sitting and waiting for me.

I change sides and whisper the goblin that I just caught him, so they have the spawn time, and they are a little upset because they had been camping as long as I had been, only they had taken a few hours to break. I would have felt a little sorry for them if they hadn't been a jerk with the traps, I think that is just rude there. I did log back onto my hunter (who is my only 85) and show them the other spawn locations and where I got my Sambas as they didn't seem to know of the other spots.
Anyways, my point is thus-some people are jerks, and some people just do jerk things but are okay, you don't know who you are going to run into in game. Be noble if it makes you feel good, but don't be silly about it and go after what you want.

And congrats on Deathmaw, Araela, he is a beaut!

I usually play the same way. I decided to go back to Deathmaw last night after the issues with the warrior next to Olm because it just wasn't worth my time. I think that hunters that are interested in rare pets generally have a respect for each other regarding this. That being said, some people are overly aggressive about camping spawns. While I am interested in finding pets too, I'm not about to spam emotes at people or literally follow them around if they are in the vicinity of the spawn point I'm looking at.
I am VERY happy about Deathmaw though, and have my hunter camped over by Olm at the moment. In conjunction with my Star Trek theme, I named my Deathmaw "Picard" - I thought about "JeanLuc" but Picard just seemed to fit him better.

My last "JeanLuc" was Echeyakee hahaha. I love wolves... and Deathmaw and OCJ are my favorites right now!
Good luck on any tames you are going for, Merl!

Oh Picard is a great name for him! I named my own Roarke, as I'm rereading my favorite book series (JD Robb, In Death series) for what the 50th time?, and he is the main male character, and a wolfish guy himself lol.
Camping Olm again at the moment, the last of the pets in the patch that I have to have. I've been the only hunter in the area for the last few hours so I might have luck. I have Olm on Shade, but I'm playing Gypsi more lately-leveling her while my friend levels her druid-so I want him there too.
And I saw in your post you are student teaching-good luck! I teach high school now, it's a blast.

If only the rude hunter I bumped into last night while on my 4th STRAIGHT hour of camping Olm could take these words to heart. Instead I got an earful of BS about how she'd been camping Olm for weeks and how I wasn't there before her. Oi... Thank heaven for the ignore feature sometimes. I hate rude people, especially when they are my own faction! It would have seriously roasted my goose if she would have gotten the tame after I'd put in so many hours without moving from my computer, without wandering away, etc. Thankfully at exactly 7 hours, he spawned right in front of me.

Patience was worth it. Oh, and I've went out of my way to help other hunters that have been polite enough to leave me to my long camps without disturbing me. Especially nice ones who chat with me and allow me the first come, first served rule. So, my bit of wisdom..what comes around goes around.

Treat other hunters with respect and it will come back to you. <3

Got him for Gypsi now! *cheers*
Good luck to everyone going after him, he is a lovely bird. *nod*
There was a level 85 hunter who came about three hours into my camp, and I remained, trying to decide if I should log out for a bit let them have some time to watch. But they que'd for an instance apparently and got pulled in. About 15 mins after that, Olm popped up right in front of me. Gave me a heart attack and made me drop my DS (I'm SOOOOOOOORRRRRRRY Professor Layton!!!!).
And then, Your Honor, I killed him. It just had to be done.
I kid, I kid, I tamed-I'm crazy, not insane.
*nod*
I did let the other hunter know the time and location of the spawn. They were standing at another area and told me he spawned right there-which he did not for me.
Blue is where they were certain that he would spawn, right next to the two tree choppers south of the Ironbranch clearing.
The pink circle is roughly where he spawned for me, and about where I saw him on Shade when I logged in and he was in front of her last night.

Excellent- thank you!! I got home and my husband was circling around on my toon for me because he wanted to surprise me. I love him!
