His time may have come.....

Unread post by Rhyela »

I was questing last night with my husband's pally in Grizzly Hills. I decided to use my silithid, Surge, since he's four levels behind me and could use the XP. We're running around beating stuff down, but...I find myself a little dissatisfied with Surge. I mean, he's a really cool critter and all. I love his dance, I love his colors, I love his size...but he's a very situational pet. I have his Venom Web Spray on manual since otherwise he uses it at odd times, but when my hubby and I are rampaging through stuff, I never get a chance to use it.

Then, on top of that, I have been missing wind serpents. I really, really love them, and always have. Sooo, I'm thinking of ditching Surge and getting a wind serpent.

What do ya'll think? It almost feels like a waste not having an exotic pet since I'm BM (well, I do have King Krush and Loque'nahak which are exotic), but I miss my snakey babies. I'm thinking of getting either:
Image or Image.

The green one would "match" my hunter (his green skin, my green hair) and Apollyon (green skin, yellow stripes). But I'm not too fond of the blue eyes. I think I really prefer the solid red one. Plus I have a red corn snake IRL named Blaze, and it'd be kinda cool to name a wind serpent after him. :P

Hopefully Blizz does implement a larger stable so that I can have both a silithid and wind serpent. I'm not abandoning Apollyon or Dante (they're just too awesome to ever abandon); nor can I abandon my 5-year companion Tetsusaiga. Sheldon is too epic of a turtle to abandon, so all I'm left with is Surge. :(

Curse you, 5-slotted stable! CURSE YOU!!!

Sounds to me like you've used up the initial love of the Silithid. Don't feel bad, it happens to all of us. Pets will be awesome for the first while, but then you realize that perhaps you were more attracted to the idea of them rather than the pet itself.

I think you'd be happier with a Wind Serpent. No sense forcing yourself to love Surge if you just don't seem to have the same connection anymore. And go with the red one if you like that one! If for some reason it's not what you wanted, you can easily re-tame the Silithid. ^^ Don't think of it as abandoning him, just that you're releasing him back into the wild and he'll be waiting there should you have need of him in the future. :)

You know, maybe Blizz should re-think that phrase, "abandon". It makes us feel so horrible. "Release" would be a much better word!

And you have a good point, at least I didn't tame a rare silithid so I can always get him back someday if I find I miss his ADD-goodness. Thanks! ^_^

Yup, I hate that it's called 'Abandon' as well. :( Even though I don't really Roleplay in WoW, I still have a tendency to make little stories as to why I have to let a pet go, and sometimes I'll go to the trouble of running back to the place I tamed them just so that if I go back to get them in the future it will really feel like they were only on a vacation of sorts. :)

And no problem, glad I could help. I go through many pets so I know the feeling well, and I also know how it helps to have a second opinion when you're waffling over a decision like that.

If you want a Wind Serpent, get a Wind Serpent. I love them, and yes, the red skin is awesome.

WOW, how weird! Before I even read your reply, I was thinking, "I think I'll go back to Un'Goro to release Surge". :D He can chill out with his buggy buddies til 3.3.3, so he better get his party on while he still can!

Thanks for being the other voice in my head, Veph!

Abandon makes me feel like I should get a citation for being a horrible pet owner. Release would be so much kinder. I wonder if any other classes get this attached to companions in game? It helps sometimes to tell myself that it's the same pet, just in a different form.

If you like green, what about this one?

Image

It doesn't have the same eyes and is a really nice skin. No matter which one you get, wind serpents are a good choice! I love the kissing. I hated giving up mine, though.

But if you "Release" your pet, it implies a negative bond. Example:
"I released my pet from slavery."

Perhaps "Bye bye!". Just tossing out ideas...

"Don't get me wrong, I love you... but I'm not in love with you. I hope you'll understand."

I think the fact that we have such a limited number of pets we can keep takes some of the joy out of it. If you don't feel a particular pet is in some way valuable to you, or perhaps just useful or fun, it's hard to justify using up the limited space to keep it.

I really liked my Sapphire Hive Wasp for a while, but I think it was more lust than anything else. It was so sleek, and menacing without being ugly. After a few days though, I just wasn't loving running around thrashing mobs with him. So inevitably I went back to my best prehistoric buddy and started chewing cafes off with my devilsaur once more. (Sting is really useful and all, but Monstrous Bite is sooo soo cool.)

I may need to transfer my main over to Nesingwary...

@ Flight..... -
Thanks a lot for the suggestion but I actually hate the Outland wind serpent models, lol. I prefer the more "realistic"-looking wind serpents from vanilla wow (nevermind that they're flying).

I think I'm going to definitely get the red one, now to just figure out where to get him from. I know he's a rare in the Barrens, a summon in Sunken Temple, and a mob in ZG. Any way I slice it, it might be a little tedious to get.

I'd go for the green one, I never see that particular color, even when I do see wind serpents (which is rare).

Just invite a random low level guy, turn it into a raid, and use Magnakilros guide to solo ZG to get past the packs.

As far as the red one, I got mine in the Temple of Atal'Hakkar. I don't remember it being spawned, just one flying around in the lower part. I saw the group going for him and told them to stay back so I could tame. I think that might be your best bet. Personally I prefer the Outland model a bit more but I think it's the best looking of the regular ones. Some of the others aren't that bright and can look dull under different light. Good luck!

I know the feeling, ive gone through so many pets, i recently got rid of one i thought was going to stay for good, Loque. I to hate that its called abandonded they should call if release or set free. I hope they give us more stable slots!!

If you decide to go for Azzere (The rare spawn), he's got a 4 - 6 hour timer on him, so I guess it's not too tedious. It helps that it's fairly quiet around his spawn point.

This thread is sure making me miss my good ol' Galeru from Vanilla. He shall live on as an alt's pet, at one point in the future! And yeah... "Abandon" sounds pretty harsh, doesn't it? Always makes me go :( when I ever... release a pet.

I personally call this the "Companion Cube Syndrome". CCS strikes at the worst of times, but the hope of a bigger stable in the future helps to ward off the symptoms. ;)

I think Azzere would be the 'easiest' to go for, if you're looking to avoid the raid bits. He's not really super popular, so you shouldn't be lining up at the spawn point, and he's not in a hugely active place either. I know I've seen him more then a couple times running through the Barrens, just flapping around, all lonely like.

When I going to go get a wind serpent, I almost thought about getting Azzere but never cared for it cuz I am not very fond of red pets. So, in your case, I would choose the green wind serpent over the red one. If Arikara still has her poofing, you would like her instead even though she's red and yellow.

Well, I ended up getting a Spawn of Hakkar from Sunken Temple. First I started out going through Dustwallow Marsh and tamed a green one - I didn't like it much. I "released" it, then continued on to the Barrens. I tamed an orange one, just to see if I'd like it, and didn't, so I released that one as well. I went to Azzere's spawn area and he wasn't there, so I decided to go to Sunken Temple. After getting lost several times (I hate that place!), I finally managed to find my red one! I like him a lot! We've already done a few dungeons together and while he isn't as beastly as a ferocity pet, I still like him. :P I named him Blaze after my baby corn snake. <3
