Well, it's not a cartoon, but it's funny, and SciFi:

Yes, you should! It quickly became my favorite show (well, after the original Stargate series ended), which kinda surprised me.

Rewatch Firefly?

Of the more recent series I've watched and enjoyed, only Legend of the Seeker comes to mind (though that is fantasy rather than sci-fi). On the cartoon (well, anime) side I haven't really watched anything since Hellsing, but that was quite watchable.

Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Firefly and Eureka are all good, and some of my favorites!

"Archer" is great as well as a cartoon, though not one I'd watch with young people about or anyone easily offended. It's ridiculous though, I love it.
Full Metal Alchemist is a good anime.
Non Cartoon show I've been watching lately "The Good Wife", I didn't think I'd like it, but it's got my interest.
"Ghost in the Shell"? Though honestly I mostly watched that for the Tachikomas..(which is what my GC is named after)..
I'll probably come edit this with other ideas later, but it's 3 am and my brain is going 'zzzzzstaticszzzzzznothinkingpossible'.
You're braver than I, I'm terrified of hospitals, I wish you a smooth recovery.

This, minus Atlantins.
I'd recomment Star Trek. Naturally. In all the flavours it comes in, maybe except Enterprise, unless you fancy big breasted, pointy eared Vulcans.
If not, Bones (funny criminal procedure show), Criminal Minds (creepy show, but has badass shrinks), NCIS (show made of win and Jethro Gibbs) and The Big Bang Theory (nerdy show about nerds) are all awesome. I'd try watching those.
How I Met Your Mother also.

Mixture of cute anime to horrors and such.
Animeseasons is a great site for anime and it has a really good
browse by category section. Just linking a few good ones there are loads more and that browse tool lets you pick what types you like and it will only find anime that suit them.
High School of the Dead
Simoun
Angel Beats
Seikon no Qwaser
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Tales of the Abyss
To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
Toradora!
Tears to Tiara
K-ON
A good movie to not sure everyone
Wristcutters: A Love Story I linked the Wiki so you can judge from their yourself. I know someone might nag it covers a sensetive issue but if you havent seen it you cant comment on this film. I love the story and the idea with it all thus making it a favourite film of all time for me personally and alot of my friends I know.

If you like sci-fi/funny stuff I'd strongly recommend Dr Who, starting at the first series of the new run! Series three is a bit of a lowpoint, but it doesn't matter as it's all great!

Doctor Who and Eureka.

Both wacky and fun sci-fi series.
