Was probably a hunter pet already. I had a Sambas (and Gondria) false alarm due to hunter pets myself. Really gets your heart pumping, thats for sure.

Edit: All the more reason to politely ask hunters in such zones to try to not have that pet out near the spawn points. Most will understand and help you out.

If you didn't see him, it was a false alarm. But if I'm misinterpreting your tale, thats my fault. You'll get him, keep tryin.

Edit: From the pic you gave, I don't see him anywhere.. so I'm assuming you never actually "saw" him is why I want to make sure I'm on the same page. Either way, keep plugging away. Best of luck.

What most likely happened was that another hunter landed to get a herb or mine, had Sambas as pet, it set off your alarm and after the 5 sec to get the node he flew off again and you wouldn't see anything. It could also be so that it did spawn for real and someone else tamed it before you found it, or that a skinner killed it and skinned the corpse.

Sucks, I know. Better luck next time!

Correct me if I'm wrong Petopians, but all rare spawns are random. Even if they are inclined to spawn closer to 6hr intervals.. they can spawn at any time between (allegedly) 6hrs and 24hrs.

They can be random, but some will sort of follow an exact timer. For example, on my server, Madexx spawns almost always on the 12 hour mark, with occasional fluctuations at the 6 hour mark.

It could have been a pet to as yeah silverdragon can and will sometimes go off for pets. Or it could have been a corpse, just tamed.. or just skinned.
Do you use npcscanner?

SilverDragon won't go off for pets, that's _NPCScan. SilverDragon will pick up dead corpses and tell you whether or not the rare is dead or alive.

Uhh.. mine has gone off before in SW..

I've never had SilverDragon go off for pets on default settings ever. _NPCScan is the only one I know of that goes off for pets. Besides, it's not like SilverDragon caches anyway, it can continuously find rares.

Yah but all that I am is saying is that its a slight (not big mind you) but slight possibility it could be a pet. It will also go off in that zone if it was already cached, I dont know how many times I fly into sholo and loques go off or something like that. So I dont know its hard to say but it has happened to me.

But keep looking Dex! Youll get him *hugs*

I think you're confusing _NPCScan with SilverDragon. :)
They're two different addons, and what you're talking about sounds a lot more like _NPCScan than it does SilverDragon. I've used SilverDragon for 2-3 years and it's never gone off on a pet. SilverDragon also doesn't use a caching program like _NPCScans; it will find rares over and over again (wild rares be they alive or dead, not hunter pets).

Anyway, best of luck Dex. :D

....... no. I am talking about Silverdragon.. I know the difference between the two.. silverdragon has gone off before for me when I had seen the pet before and since I have it to put an alert in guild chat it says Found: so so (Cached) but it only says it cached if its in chat. Otherwise it wont... ive had it many times as I just enter a zone and I may have seen the pet before... its wierd

its even gone off for me when I pulled on my Sambas out lol. It was wierd..

There's also the chance that you did in fact find Sambas in the wild, but another hunter tamed it before you got a chance to even see him. Plenty of stories here of someone taming a cataclysm rare, and seconds later being divebombed by other hunters who were too late. It would explain why your macro wasn't able to find Sambas.

SilverDragon *does* pull from the cache, as a matter of fact. It has a setting to be able to do so.

To quote the creator:
If you import the default dataset: the very first time you come within visual range of a rare, SilverDragon will tell you. It only works the first time because it's checking the game's mob cache, and once you've seen it the game will remember. Remember, this won't happen if you don't do an import.

I meant that it doesn't cache the way _NPCScan does though. I imported my stuff into SD years ago and I've never seen/had it go off on a pet.

Edit: I was looking through SD's settings, there's an option that you can check so that it doesn't go off on hunter's pets.

I've have SD go off in a zone because of a hunter's pet, but only when I first enter the zone. I don't get false positives after that.

@Dexster - omg! This happened to me -- and around the same area too! _NPCScan detected Sambas but I couldn't see him. I even landed and peeked inside the buildings thinking Sambas was already a pet. I kept on clicking the box to mark Sambas just to see if he was already tamed -- not killed, not tamed. After about a minute, I finally decided to dismount and walk around the area (about northwest of where you were in your picture) -- and finally spotted Sambas.

I think we both detected Sambas a few milliseconds after he spawned and flew past him before he has completely shown up. Add lag... and that's the only explanation I can think of.
