I still think my idea for the PD subfourms is a good 1

Unread post by cowmuflage »

Seeing as Mania has not replied to my idea on the other thread I thougt it would be better to make a thread basicly for talk about it.

The Pet Discussion is a huge mess. It really is. My idea for a subforum for sololy pet tame threads would fix this really well as it lets the Pet Discussion forum to be for Pet Discussion threads and then there would be a subforum of that for Tameing threads.

It would not "hide peoples tames" or "ruin anyones feelings" as some people might think.

I am not the only one here who is sick of not being able to easly find a topic on pets becouse its been pushed down by 20+ king krush tame threads.

My idea is not bashing anyones tameing threads I just think its a good idea to tidy up the Pet Discussion forum up a bit.

I approve of this, personally. It would really clean it up. I avoid Pet Discussion usually because I can't find anything, but I understand the joy of taming, and I want people to be able to post their stories.

Seeing as I usually see new posts through the 'new posts' option, it wouldn't make a difference for me in terms of seeing taming threads. But it would definitely make it easier to quickly find a thread in either subforum if you only have a vague idea where it is (which has happened to me a few times). I'm all for this suggestion.

I like this this suggestion alot! it would really help out :) and like you said its not to hurt anyones feeling or anything but it does becoe hard when you are trying to find information and it gets drowned out by tamed threads which those are always fun to post but xD It would really "unclutter" the pet discussin thread, i guess you could say.

I am all for this

I supported this idea in the other thread and I support it here. :)
I think it offers the best of both worlds. We understand the need for people to share their stories for tames and "where's so and so" and whatnot and I think offering the subforum for these is a great idea. :D

I agree that it does need to be broken down into sub-catagories, to make navigation for information more readily available. Theres been several time I've tried to re-find a thread that had valuable info on pets that I needed but couldnt find do to the amount of "I tamed this" type threads. it does need a bit more organization.

I personally think it's not necessary. If you want into on a pet, use the sticky thread the mobs put up OR use wowhead. There. Problem solves guys. Thats kinda why the mobs made that sticky and resource thread. ^^; Dont shun the new stuff before its had a chance to be used.

I completely support this idea. I love reading people's "Yay I tamed so-and-so" threads, myself, but still it would be nice if they could be kept in a nice, neat sub-forum of their own, which those people who have no interest in them can then avoid freely.

So far those stickies haven't really been used anyway. With the sub-forum for "I tamed this!" threads, if someone posts in the wrong forum, it can easily be moved into the proper location. The mods already said that they think a single thread for these kind of things is a bad idea (ie one sticky thread) so this is a perfect compromise.

I agree that an "I Tamed <----->" forum would be great for clearing up a lot on the Discussion forums. The site has just grown to much at this point for it not to accommodate having a sub or completely separate section for tamings. Maybe it's me but it's not easy to search for something that's only 24 hours old and is way down on page three or something. :D

I vote yes to Sub /New taming forum.

I also think this is a good idea. Would allow tames to be all grouped into one area.
Nesingwary Petopians - Bitka, Quïll Xendral, Ximbol, Saehi, and Tryxter
Nesingwary Petopian Alliance - Sorree and Xylda

I really like this idea. For the most part I do the same as Sarayana and just hit the Active Topics button, but when I want to find something, even a day after it's posted, in the Pet Discussions forum it can get a bit "Where's Waldo" with some on the info and tame titles being so similar. Besides all that I love reading taming stories so just hitting a button and having everyone's epic adventurers in one spot would be awesome, imo. :D

My only question would be where the "Lost the Tame" posts would be best kept? The new forum would be the ideal spot but others might think that a little cruel to have them lumped in next to a posts about successful tames. On the other hand having a forum dedicated to these stories would just be a pit of depressing....

There's more than just the "I tamed so and so" threads in Pet Discussion, not to mention, a sub-forum would still be a part of Pet Discussion and would help clean up the clutter. It's hard to find any of the other Pet Discussion threads because they get buried by the same thread.

That's what we're saying, that seeing the same thread 20 times and having to dig through them to find what you're looking for kind of stinks. We still want people to be able to share their taming stories though and the sub-forum would allow them to do just that.

And even fewer would read them, is another thing I'm getting at. They only get read cause they're right there in the pet discussion, bam. Dont gotta hunt a subforum to find them. If there's a topic I wanna follow, I use the bookmark feature. It also solves that problem.

Alright....let me put it this way.....what purpose does Pet Discussion have when....you cant discuss what you tamed if its put into a separate forum? Doesn't that kill the point of it? I know I'm not the only one that disagrees that it makes the Pet Discussion Forum kinda pointless but I'm apparently the only one gutsy enough to be vocal about it. *sigh*
Hmm, for Pet Discussion, we would still have:
  • "I'm camping for _" (or, as I think of them, "I'm Losing my Sanity Here!") topics
  • Random Pet Challenges (two threads, but they're big ones)
  • All the threads that are linked in Veph's resource sticky
  • The multiple threads about trying to tame pets with appearance buffs (I'm currently trying to do that now, with little success)
  • The occasional thread asking how to spec their pet
  • "Help me choose a _ to tame" threads
  • Assorted questions about glitches, specific pet skins, NPCScan & Silverdragon, etc.
I guess a better way to say it is that the Pet Discussion board would still be seeing a lot more traffic than most of the other boards in these forums.

But people would get grats less because the topics would be ignored and/or overlooked. Thats whats worrying me. Less people will wanna come here cause their topics will be seen less.

Which is a good thing. I haven't even shot a glance at Pet Discussion for months because of all the redundant tame threads. It's not discussion, it's just repetitive.

It's not if we're trying to be a friendly, open forum. Why shun new people just because of one thing you dont like? There's gonna be repetitive tame topics whether you like it or not cause not just one person is gonna tame a certain pet and no one else will.

But there's no need for those topics to clutter down the Pet DISCUSSION forums. In a subforum, it'll be organized, and whoever wants to read the topic can do so, while those who don't won't.
