On my server, Sambas is a very wanted pet, to the point where people are paying people 2k-6k gold to get informed that he's spawned. I got really lucky because I logged off for an hour after I hit 85, logged back on at about 2:00 PM my time, flew around his spawn points (using NPCScan overlay) and nine minutes later, my Silverdragon (thank you to whomever told this forum about it! It's MUCH nicer than NPCScan!) started going haywire.. Needless to say, it didn't need to.. Sambas spawned right in front of my face as I was flying low. I hammered my f2 key (my flying mount) and dismounted and dropped a trap right on top of him. I'm sweating bullets because I know how much people want him, and start to tame. Not even five seconds after my tame gets the final "DING" of it's complete (I didn't even have time to name him yet!), a mage flies in and starts swearing at me left right and center because I tamed him, and he wanted to kill him.. I kindly informed him about the 25 gold crystal that drops, and that's all.. he promptly apologized ( stupid mages! ) for swearing at me, and was glad I got him.

Now, whenever I'm running through Stormwind, I display my Shadow (named after the cat I lost last April to cancer) with pride because I never, ever thought I'd get such an amazing rare pet as him (to the point where it said Cat <Minifig's Pet> I was shaking I was so excited).. but .. now I'm getting whispers from other hunters (who are also 85) whispering me and saying "I hate you because I want that cat too.." and other such things.

Why can't our fellow hunters be more congratulatory of a Hunter who has been wanting this cat since Cataclysm's beta when he first heard about it?

Granted there are a few Hunters who run upto me when seeing him and give him a /pet and a /hug, and then congratulate me, but those are few and far between.. maybe that's why I rejoice with those kind of hunters and tell them when/where I saw him as a trade off for being so nice to me and saying 'Congratulations'.

I've never had hate from other hunters over a pet. Actually, now that I think about it, I've rarely had ANY comments from them about my pets. I had one ask me about Tesla(Skoll) to see if she was a wolf or a spirit beast, and someone ask if my Madexx was newly-tamed (it was), but that's about it.

On the other hand, the last time I ran with my Gavin(Sambas) out, it's the -other- classes I get whispers from telling me he's neat.

No one really ever says anything about my pets that aren't in my guild. The only person who bugs me about them is my bffs bf who just says he hates me every time I get a rare he wants.

I had one BM hunter rolling in spirit beasts/sparkly rares beg me to tell her where my lavender felboar came from. I used to get comments on my armored boar too, but not so much anymore. I don't get a lot of people talking about my rares since they're literally everywhere, but the less-loved common pets do get questions occasionally.

My admittedly flamboyant mage friend probably does the most commenting - I also get a lot of "oh my god veeka those are so pretty tame one"s from him. :P

Amazingly, my server is big on hate-mongering when it comes to griefing, but not when it comes to pets. They're either complimentary, curious, or a combination of the two when it comes to the already-tamed ones. That doesn't mean there won't be rudeness in the wild when it comes to untamed pets, but I've never once had anyone tell me they hated me for having a particular pet.

Strange how these emotions manifest themselves...

I got a whisper last night after I got done doing my dailies with Terrorpene. They told me they were very jealous of my pet and then asked if I had to use anything special to tame him. I told them I had just waited until I was lvl 85 and had over 100k health. I gave them a couple of pointers and they were off to try to get him for themselves =D

I guess I have been lucky and any whispers I have gotten for unique or rare pets have always been nice ones or just curious ones.

I got what I believe is my server's first Terrorpene, but strangely enough I got nothing but nice whispers, grats, and "Where did you get that awesome flaming turtle?" questions.

Mage jealousy? Sounds like someone should roll a hunter himself.

I get whispers calling me "YOU LUCKY B**TARD" about my TLPD.

I got MAD and whispered back "Im not lucky. I camped for 3 weeks. Luck had nothing to do with it. Patience, and 2 other people helping me cover spawn locations did it."

I dont have any fancy pets yet to get whispers from, but Im hunting Krush and Loque as we speak.

The only 'hating' type messages I get are from another hunter in my guild so they're not all that serious. Especially since I've tried to help camp some rares for him as well. 9 out of 10 times if I get a tell it's someone asking where I got my pet, or how long it took me to camp that pet..etc etc.

It used to be that way for me with Chromaggus, because I am fairly certain I was the first person on my server to tame it. You don't see many hunters with it still, what with Beast Mastery DPS being abysmally bad. It also happened to me with Gezzarak (who I ditched for the common red warpstalker), the Lone Hunter with sword debuff, Arcturis when it first came out (I sorta kinda ninja'd it, cause there was an afk hunter sitting behind me and I didn't even see him when I landed), Lord Kri back when the bug invincibility...bug was around (I tanked a heroic boss with it, and the group loved it while asking me how I got the bug), and finally Green Madexx, obviously a big thing of jealousy.

My druid, on the other hand, has been harassed so much since I, as a level 82 (now 83) boomkin used the ghost glitch to fly to Jadefang and killed it for the unbelievable exp of 180k, and a nice minipet and blue item for enhance shamans in a nearby chest. I put out the minipet for that moment of self glory, and not a second later a night elf hunter shows up and starts yelling at me for killing Jadefang. I didn't know there was another guy here, and the daily wasn't up for the bombs, so I didn't feel a need to give a cheater any heads up, despite me cheating my way up there for some free exp. He also wouldn't leave me alone, even after I ignored 5 alts lol.

I've always gotten more comments/questions about my mounts and minipets than my hunter pets, although I did have someone ask me how to get the silithid ant model.

I will usually stop and /pet hunter pets that have a skin I'm fond of, or /cheer if it's a hard-to-get one that I like. I always /whistle at anyone riding a Razzashi Raptor. For a minipet that I want but don't have yet, I'll /followme and /beg it

For as big as my server is, I've never gotten hate whispers. I get "Aww! You're so lucky! I want him!" or "Where'd you get him?"

Most I've gotten on my server is just people either giving me small congrats or most often, asking me where I got a rare pet (I usally. I've never once gotten a hate whisper from anyone about it. oO

I get joke hate whispers like 'Omg I hate you I want him where you get it/time?' but I understood they were joking and after that I would have a good little talk with them and if we are lucky we find a rare together D:
Apart from that its the 'why you name it that', 'where you get it', 'what time did you tame it'. etc

Grats on your kitty! Yes, I think some people just nerdrage over things because they can. I have gotten some whispers about "WHERE DID U GET THAT PET ZOMG!1!!11!!1!ELVEN!" others that have been congratulatory, and others that have been, "I hate you!" - but I just try to take it all with a grain of salt. Hunters are just that- hunters- those that want the rare pets will do the research and spend the time trying to find them. Some get lucky without trying, others spend months (or in some cases years) trying to get a pet. What it boils down to is that we are a very customizable class, and because of that, people get territorial over "THEIR" pets.

I'm glad you got your Sambas, and sorry to hear about the passing of your cat.

I have never gotten jealous whispers, but I have received countless whispers about Chromaggus and where I got him from. I have yet to see another Chromaggus on my server apart from mine and the one I helped a friend get. I still get whispers when I pull him out.

I have gotten a few /w's on Sambas too, along the lines of "where did you get that pet?" and so on. I have released Sambas again though, we were not meant for each other.

I have never gotten "hate" whispers. But alot of "OMFGWHEREDIDYOUGETTHAT!!" when I have my hydradile out.

Yeah, I've never gotten genuine hate tells. I have gotten 'omg so jealous' type stuff but... really, isn't that why people tame rares and then stand around in Trade with them? XD (well, okay, I don't do that too much personally)

To be honest, no one much comments on any of my pets that aren't people I know (although I did have someone say they were amused by my Terrorpene's name (Dante).) The only one that has a LOT of poking is Pogey. I have Pogeyan on a hunter that's only Lv40, and people I guess don't expect a lowbie to have an awesome rare. Nevermind that that cat is SHINY. XD Usually it's just 'omg what is that where did it come from'. People STILL don't have Pogey very often on my server; I've actually yet to see another person with him.
