Holy Paladin Lvl 64 - Plate - Veneratus [EDIT:new wpn &helm]

Although I was reluctant to step away from his blue chainmail sets, when he made 40 I was keen to try out the new plate models with Veneratus, so I started working on a new 'mog set - this time I wanted more of a cold, "ironclad barbaric" look, but that was still clearly recognizable as a paladin. It took a lot of work (and a LOT of leveling), but I'm pretty happy with the end result... in particular it was a great excuse to use the gold lion shield, as I'd had one on my dwarf long before 4.3 was even a rumor, but vendored it (!).

EDIT: looking about on wowhead, I made the happy discovery that in 4.3, Fhwoor Smash now unlocks at *honored* (instead of exalted...), so I decided to replace Veneratus' weapon, as the sword was more "tankish" than resto, and also replaced the helm along the same lines. I think this emphasizes his spec more strongly.

Can you make a sunwalker set that include Sternhorn Shield, Preserver's Cudgel and maybe even Vanguard Headdress?

I had thought of trying the cudgel and a certain tribal-type shield, but ultimately went for the current lineup as I've been jonesing for the King's Bulwark a long time.

However, that helmet is an awesome find - you did mention it before, but for some reason I'd thought it was chainmail... but no - it's plate . I will definitely have to try for that!

As for a shield, I'm not a fan of the "sticks n' hide" shields, but the monstrous shield would work alongside that mace.

Sooo... here is the new look that I am working on for Veneratus (although I have something else in mind down the road that will incorporate the bulwark):

Actually I'm not 100% pleased with how this looks - the helm, mace and shield are definites, and the cloak *could* work, but the rest really doesn't match those "core" pieces; need something with some dark blue and gold to go with the helm, but also need green/brown for the mace and shield... and possibly even some red to go with the shield gem... and the whole ensemble should have at least a vaguely tribal theme.

And it has to be something that a lvl 65 could wear - if I can find enough gear to motivate me, I could see getting him up to the 75-80 mark, but i don't foresee cata endgame stuff in Veneratus' near future...

Any thoughts pop?

Could still use a bit of green, and maybe some red for the shield gem. I might play around with the belt and cloak for that.

As the lion shield was a little overwhelming & didn't tie in very well with the platemail, I opted for sort of a compromise and combined the original mace, shield & cloak with the platemail - except for the Templar Crown, which I think is a better fit for holy spec than the Steamsmith Helm.

In particular this setup has less shield / more mace, and both tie into the platemail reasonably well.

I have some new ideas for higher level, but this should suffice for the time being.

(EDIT: I am still grinding for the vanguard headdress on my lvl 85, but not sure if it'll ever drop... and from what I can see of the sources, it's unlikely to appear on the AH either. I'll keep at it for a while longer though)
