Hunter Sets (*VERY* Image Heavy)

Unread post by Sigrah »

Over the past few of weeks, I've been spending significant time building sets for my various toons (I have *12* level 85's mind you). For this post, I decided to show pictures of the top 4 sets I've built so far for my Blood Elf and Human Hunters, both of which are female. For continuity purposes, I decided to just use my Blood Elf toon so that each set could be viewed on a similar model. I also used WMV to help build the pictures. Finally, any similar appearance to other people's ideas are coincidental, I spent most of my time using Mogit to come up with ideas. Feel free to post replies with comments, suggestions, or other critiques:

Green Iron Set

Image

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Green Iron Shoulders
Back: Recovered Cloak of Frostheim
Chest: Green Iron Hauberk
Wrist: Green Iron Bracers (Covered)
Hands: Green Iron Gauntlets
Waist: Ornate Girdle
Legs: Green Iron Leggings
Feet: Green Iron Boots
Gun: Irontree Gun

Full Wowhead Link: Green Iron Set

This set is my "green themed" set, and is also the most conservative in appearance when it comes to style. It uses mostly Green Iron armor pieces that are crafted by blacksmiths, and uses an Ornate Girdle for the belt since there is no Green Iron belt. I chose to use the Irontree Gun here because I wanted at least one set with a gun instead of having them all with a bow.

Black Dragon Set

Image

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Black Dragonscale Shoulders
Back: Platinum Mesh Cloak
Chest: Black Dragonscale Breastplate
*Wrist: Anything that will be covered by the gloves below would be ideal, there aren't any good matches otherwise in my opinion.
*Hands: Wrathful Gladiator's Chain Gauntlets
Waist: Wrathful Gladiator's Waistguard of Triumph
Legs: Black Dragonscale Leggings
Feet: Black Dragonscale Boots
Crossbow: Steelspark Crossbow

Full Wowhead Link: Black Dragonscale Set

This set has a nice black plate look to it. It features Black Dragonscale armor pieces that can be crafted by Leatherworkers where available, and uses armor with close approximations in color and style to make up the rest. I decided to use the Steelspark Crossbow here because it seems to go well with the set, and also because I wanted at least one set that featured a crossbow instead of a bow.

* = Updated items. The original wrist item had its graphics updated, and there wasn't a suitable alternative, so I updated the gloves that would cover a good chunk of wrist items.

Tough Scorpid Set:

Image

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Tough Scorpid Shoulders
Back: Cloak of Subjugated Power
Chest: Tough Scorpid Breastplate
Wrist: Tough Scorpid Bracers (Covered)
Hands: Tough Scorpid Gloves
Waist: Heavy Scorpid Belt
Legs: Tough Scorpid Leggings
Feet: Tough Scorpid Boots
Bow: Advanced Flatbow

Full Wowhead Link: Tough Scorpid Set

I built this set as a desert themed look. It uses mostly Tough Scorpid armor pieces crafted by Leatherworkers and has a nice studded leather look to it for times when you are tired of looking at scale and chain type looks that are common for the "Mail" armor types.

Fire Hunter Set

Image

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Battleforge Shoulderguards
Back: Vicious Gladiator's Cape of Prowess
Chest: Engraved Breastplate
Wrist: Battleforge Wristguards (Covered)
Hands: Battleforge Gauntlets
Waist: Ornate Girdle
Legs: Battleforge Legguards
Feet: Battleforge Boots
Bow: Heartstriker

Full Wowhead Link: Fire Hunter Set

This set is similar to the "Fire Shaman Set" I built for my Dwarf and Goblin Shamen, and is probably the most revealing of the sets shown here. It uses most of the same pieces (Battleforge / Blood Knight), but substitutes in the Engraved Breastplate for the chest piece and the Heartstriker bow for melee weapons.

All those sets are very sharp :)
I got lost while staring at the Black dragonscale set and the Fire set...to the point I nearly died of fatigue in game as WoW was running in the background -chuckle-

Very nice! I love the Black Dragonscale set. So pretty! I also have a set similar to your Fire Hunter Set but it's with the Battleforge set, Shaman healer helm off rag, and the Rag bow.

Outrunner's Bow Set

Outrunner's Gun Set

Image

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Azure Shoulderguards
Back: Devilshark Cape
Chest: Outrunner's Chestguard
Wrist: Outrunner's Cuffs
Hands: Outrunner's Gloves
Waist: Outrunner's Cord
Legs: Outrunner's Legguards
Feet: Outrunner's Slippers
Bow: Crypt Fiend Slayer
Gun: Nesingwary 4000

Full Wowhead Link: Outrunner's Set

This is a set I've seen brought up a few times, so I thought I'd do a set of pictures for it. It's probably one of the most revealing sets in the game if that's the look you're going for on your hunter, and is also one of the more primitive looks as well. This look is equally revealing on male models. I don't think I would use this set personally, but thought it'd be fun to do pics for it anyways.

Edit: Added a Gun version with picture.

I love the Outrunner's set and am in the middle of farming the ah for the pieces. But I don't like the "open feet" style of boot, not that it doesn't look nice but I get really cold feet and looking at bare feet makes me cold. I can't imagine running around the snowy areas of WoW with bare feet lol. Do you have any suggestions on other boots that might match it?

I sympathize, the open feet look was part of the reason I didn't like this set as much. But, there are a few different sets of boots that you might plug into a 3d viewer as alternatives and see if they work for you. These are the better ones I found:

Alternate Ideas:
Boots of Persistence
Defender Boots
Renegade Boots
Nexus-Strider Greaves

While this feature of the Grimtotem Spirit Guide wasn't exactly intended... - it will still be possible in future for everyone who wishes to tame this NPC to do so

I am currently collecting the Chief Brigadier Mail as a possible set (shown below). http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=240#. (Click the View in 3D red button for an interactive, 3D view with race/gender choices.)

Although now I am leaning more towards the sexy, fire Battleforge set. http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=226#.
I also want to mention that you can get the same look (minus the helm and shoulders) as the Battleforge set in the Blood Knight set. http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=278#.

I also like the look of the sexy, violet Steadfast set (shown below). http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=241#.

Thanks for the bow suggestion to go with the Tough Scorpid set. I decided on the scorpid armor a while back and had already picked a bow, but now I think I'll keep an eye out on the AH for the Advanced Flatbow or Astral Light Bow.

Talhide Set

Image

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Talhide Shoulderguards
Back: Haunt of Flies
Chest: Talhide Chestpiece
Shirt: Brown Linen Shirt (Shown, but optional)
Wrist: Talhide Lined-Bracers (Only partially show)
Hands: Talhide Lined-Gloves
Waist: Talhide Stitched-Belt
Legs: Talhide Lined-Leggings
Feet: Talhide Lined-Boots
Crossbow: Under-Arm Crossbow

Full Wowhead Link: Talhide Set

This is yet another set I put together for my Hunter that's "different". It's different in that unlike most mail armor sets, this set actually has a cloth appearance to it *without* having to use a robe graphic, making it a somewhat unique look for Hunters and Shamen to be running around in. In and of itself, I thought it was a little plain, so I chose the Haunt of Flies cloak to give it some life.

On a side note: If you are interested in collecting this set, most Netherstorm pieces have the same graphic as their Talhide counterparts, making it a bit easier to find on the AH. Only the Netherstorm boots have a different graphic from the Talhide boots.

I love your green set and the purple one. They both look great. Thanks to you I finally have an idea for my purple-pet-collecting hunter :)

@Binni: isn't the Battleforge set plate or is there a plate look-alike? I built almost exactly the same set for my Dk.

@Finduilas: There might be a plate version, but I know for a fact that there is a mail version of the Battleforge set. Look it up if you don't believe me. ;) I just finished collecting the last piece on my hunter and can't wait to show it off tomorrow for patch 4.3! However, I did mislabel the Chief Brigadier Armor set picture above as the Battleforge Set. My mistake! It has been fixed. Both are available in mail, though!

@Binni: no problem. I believe you. I just didn't know there was a mail version of it. I think it looks great. I love the purple-red look about it.

Wrist: Bracers of Forked Lightning

Turns out this item has been altered to match the firelands gear rather then it's nice standard black look. A substitute I found that seems to mesh nicely is 'Whirlwind Bracers'. The only issue here is due to their silver and blue tints it makes the gloves show their brown tints a little more.
All in all though it's a good sub :)

I know, I was bummed when I looked at that this morning. However, after doing some work on it, I think the Wrathful Gladiator's Chain Gauntlets would be the best alternative fit for this set as long as you also pick some bracers that would be covered by them. The gloves still show some brown, but they fit pretty well overall.
