I miss the different levels of friendship. It always felt nice when my pet finally attained "Best Friend" status (or whatever it was...pretty sure it was "Best Friend").

Hehe, yeah and your pet could be completely happy.... but just not with you! It would be all kinds of disobedient and totally not be interested in you or your commands, normally only just after a fresh tame however, but funny.

I really miss having to tame pets to learn new abilities/ranks for our pets, it gave the hunter class more of a hunter apsect to the game play. I also miss how certain pets had above average stats quirks. It made them that much more special.
I briefly experienced the pets out while mounted when the \lfg tool was first introduced. And after some experaments, my pet never seemed to pull aggro while under that glitch, I was sad when they fixed it. I't be nice if they brought it back with an option in the interface on pet auto dismiss when mounted on/off. And have it so they auto dismiss when mounting a flying mount. (birds optional)

I highly doubt they will bring it back, but I would <3 it soooo much if they could, having it auto dismiss with a flying mount is totally fine, but an option on ground mounts... Oh I would die and go to heaven!

When I saw a hunter on a black war kodo, and my goal was to get a large ravager and get one of those to pair up. Back when the pet stayed out while mounted, hehe. Was early into BC, didn't have a max level before that.

Also remember the taming of the grim totem spirit guide... I was lying to people. "Oh hey! It's been awhile! We did that raid together! Listen, if you're not busy, I need some help with something..."

Lowest I ever stooped to getting help from others for something...

And speaking of Nostalgia, near when I first started WoW (back in vanilla, mind you), one of my first toons was a dwarf. I saw a dwarf hunter at Kharanos with a large bat with red wings. I thought he looked SO epic. Made me want to reroll to a hunter. ;3

Glad you asked! I was thinking about putting one up, but then I decided not to... now I have a reason!
I'm very sorry for the crappy textures, but I didn't have that good of a computer back then
Anyways, this is me at lvl 40, finally sporting my first mount, the black stallion. Oh how I quested to have it directly at 40. (I despise elekks, have never and will never use them. I'm sad that my pala automatically got one, but I had the ArgTou rep one so I did not have to use the elekk anyway )

Oh, I would be so happy if they put that back in the game...

I really do wish they would put pets in the game to run side by side with a ground mount-- just make them untargetable, aka-- turn them into a mount themselves so to say, the mounts we summon and ride arent targetable yet they cry and scream instead of you when your being attacked by a mob, why not do that to pets? Make the pet with the same likeness of a mount.. it can be a game mechanic buff on the pet.

Flying mounts can run on the ground i cant see them making the pet only show up for ground mount and auto dismiss for flying but if you notice the non-combat pets, they remain out on the field until you fly too high up and they auto dismiss themselves. Pets auto dismiss themselves when you are too far seperated from eachother. Since the pet is no longer targetable by npc's, you can easily just mount up and fly away, you wont get aggro from anything while your gaining altitude and when your finally high enough the pet auto dismisses and all is well again.

Another option is to make them share the same likeness of a mini-pet while mounted. They can keep up with any mount speed because of their game mechanics, they are clickable and there are things out there that can indeed kill them (run into a fireplace, i accidently killed my taurens panda bear once from sitting too close to the fire) and obviously we know they can be buffed because of all the things that are out there to make mini-pets more adorable and fun to walk around with (the yarn, soapy bath bucket, leashes, cookies).

So like... when you mount you get a buff (example: "Black Stallion: Increases movement speed by 60%") so why not give the pet a buff that prevents it from aquiring any aggro. It will be just like a even bigger version of an already jumbo buffed mini-pet (yes im looking at you giant black rat that terrorized dalaran at the whim of your owner who kept snuggling you >_>).

Its definitely do-able, blizz gave us the "Honorless Target" buff whenever we hearthstone or something, it reduces the chance for someone to get honor by 100% but its the same principal (did i spell that right?) right? We had to hearthstone to proc it, it reduces something by 100%. When we mount up, give the pet a buff like this only dont put a timer on it. We are doing something to proc it, and its cutting something by 100%.

Could you imagine (Granted alot of us are horde) But could you imagine how epic it would be to be a Worgen using running wild with a wolf pet running next to you?

My worgen Vlador would be soooo happy to have Slaughter (his black OldSkinWorg from Duskwood) running beside him 8D Though saber worgs would look better in terms of the elongated, low to the ground, sucked in stomaches appearance

I may be the lone dissenter...but frankly, I'm perfectly fine with my pet being "dismissed" when I mount up. We use mounts to get somewhere quicker and save our characters' energy, right? Well, if our pets have to run all the way where we get to ride...or fall to their deaths/dismissal because we, oh, say, flew over the Twisting Nether to get from Hellfire to Netherstorm (just as an example)...why shouldn't they have a res sickness-like debuff called "Exhaustion?" They're tired, dang it...they just ran all the way you got to ride in comfort. Not terribly thoughtful of a hunter that supposedly cares for their pet, is it?

As it currently is, my pets either hop on Tahl's sidecar of his hog (at least, IC-ly) when he mounts up, or he arranges them other transport if he takes a flight path. Most of his cats he can simply have lie across his drake's shoulders when he takes to the air, and when he lands, they drop off to "appear" beside him.

And I don't even want to think what kind of bugs attempting to introduce a "feature" like that might provoke...it might bug our pets to be completely and permanently untargetable, which would cause massive QQ from the PvP set...or it might set them permanently and irrevocably to passive, so they won't attack, period.

The current system isn't exactly perfect...but it may be the best the game engine can permit. I really don't think they would have done it the way they did if there was a way to have kept the graphic but made the pets not aggro everything on the planet.

Back in WotLK when a wolf was mandatory for raiding I tamed the saddled one in HF Ramparts, which coincidentally shares a skin with a PvP mount.

lol yea that wolf is pretty awesome, i tamed one and named it KibbleofWar XDD

I don't miss pets running beside me because my pet was like some horrible aggro mounster! >__<;; I guess it let me get away, though, since he was getting hit and it wasn't me.
