Back in the good old days....

I remember when....

I was just thinking about some hunter nostalgia, about when so many moons ago, in some ways we were so much more, and in others, so much less... "the good old days" as some would say. It got me thinking about how we all love the game, our hunters, and our pets for a plethora of different reasons. Some of these reasons may still be in the game, some not, for good or for bad.

Have you ever had a moments where you look back fondly and think,
Oh yeah..., I remember when.....?


For me, I remember when you could be on your mount and have your pet out at the same time. I loved it so much. It was one of the very key features that made me roll my hunter at the begining. I was over a friends house and they were showing me this game they were playing and telling me all about it. The different classes, cities, factions, oh it was all so exciting! Then it happened. A hunter rode past on her beautiful tiger and trotting happily by her side was a matching pet.
I gasped and asked my friend,
"What was that!"
To which they replied,
"Oh that's a hunter... do you like the look of them?"

Why did they ever get rid of that anyways? It was so COOL! Made us Hunters look super badass, (also a good way to show off epic pets and mounts at the same time ).....................

I would love to see them bring this feature back to the game. Did Blizzard ever state why they took it out in the first place?

It got taken out because pets used to aggro mobs while out (effectively preventing us from being dazed by mobs while mounted)

:O OMG that would be epic! I am sad to say that I never got to experience that. It's things like this that make me wish I had given in to my roommates right away when they tried to get me to play WoW (I held out for over a year against them...now I play and they don't).

They removed it early in BC, because pets would not despawn when the hunter mounted up on a flying mount. Pets also have a really long 'leash' before they do disappear, and would run along on the ground underneath the flying mounts, aggroing things, kiting mobs into other people and either getting other players killed or eventually dying. There was a HUGE complaint thing about it, so pets now just disappear when hunters mount up.

I'd love to have the pets return to our sides when mounted on a ground-only mount (like they way they operate in Arenas), or maybe disappear when we take off for flight. It's a part of the class that I never got to experience and I regret that a little.

I...remember when your pet had paw prints, hoof prints, when they ran along side you... I miss that, they could implement that back in it's not a game bug or anything to enhance or exploit game play.

Pets running along side your mount is one of the only things I miss from "the good ol' days." And I miss it pretty dang hard, actually. I often think to myself about how awesome my devilsaur would look running along beside my ground mount.

I do wish they could find a way to bring it back. But I understand why it was taken out.

That screenie is beautiful. I remember when I first started a hunter I was excited to get a Nightsaber to match my Nightsaber mount! But alas I never made it to 40 in time to allow that to happen

I miss this too. Matching mount with pet (and mini pet if you could get that too) was awesome.

Pets running with you on mounts was removed soon after flying mounts where released. When BC started and you got your first flying mount, your pet would run below you and aggro everything. I had to fly up super high to dismiss my pet everytime otherwise when I dismounted I had an army of mobs coming after me. I'm guessing Blizzard had a hard time coding flying vs. ground mounts (or didn't care) and made pets dismiss for both mount types.

Although sometimes your pet would fly with you! Proof Hahadori is so awesome she can fly! (Although, warning terribad old UI screenshot. >.> )

Agreed! I did not start playing a hunter until after this time - I started in BC and played mainly as a pally and a priest. Oh this would be so cool to have back again.

Sometimes if you entered a battleground while mounted, and leave with your pets out, you'll zone back into your location mounted with your pets running beside you. It's a cool bug -- I'm not sure if they took it out with Cata or not. I started playing in the middle of WotLK, so I never had the experience of pets running beside me while mounted normally. So I'd take advantage of this bug whenever it happened, riding through Org or wherever with my pet out, just fo the fun of it.

I wish this was still available for ground-only mounts at the very least. I'd love to be riding my Swift Purple Raptor, with Beauty out beside me, and mini-Beauty (Deviant Hatchling) out as well!

I guess for now, though, I should continue to RP that Beauty magically grows armour whenever I mount up, so my pet *is* my mount.

I guess I'm in the minority here--I personally wouldn't like to have my pets out while mounted. I prefer to match pets and mounts and then just say I'm riding the pet. (The new riding model cats are awesome for this, as are bears and raptors.) It would be a pain to have to dismiss my pet every time.

It did look cool. Only trouble was when flying mounts came out or your pet aggroed a whole train of mobs. >_> Ah, the joys of BC seeing a whole pack of angry fel orcs chasing a cat.

Pets WERE passive when you were mounted...didn't stop them from aggroing half the ground mobs while you flew around, though. XD Either they'd despawn eventually, or they'd slowly get chewed to death.

I remember when we had to keep a pet slot free for taming random beasts in order to learn their skills so you could then teach it to your main pet.
