Oh, you are making me miss Maggie, dang it! She was the best. I loved that hyena. I hit 80 with her. Back around lvl 33, a friend of mine who had a lvl 80 druid at the time helped me tame a scarlet monastery hound right at the minimum level. We had a blast doing it. But unfortunately, that friend and I had a falling out (long story) and Maggie brought up too many sad memories. We'd (the druid, not the hyena) been close friends for almost 14 years in real life. And finally I had to release Maggie, cause it was just too sad.
But anyway, what I was going to post was that I love my tallstrider because he sometimes darts off after a fight to slaughter the nearest critter. Disturbing but endearing.
I love my ghostsaber because she hydrophobic! Instead of swimming, she floats above the water. So like a cat...

Hope this doesn't ruin the endearment for you, but I imagine the reason he sometimes goes after critters is because his Dust Cloud hits them. After he finishes off his target, the one you sent him after, he goes after the next aggroed creature which happens to be the nearby rabbit that he sent scurrying after blinding it with dust. If I remember right, my carrion bird used to do the same exact thing with Demoralizing Screech. Those AoE abilities hit everything within that radius, including the ambient creatures, putting them in combat.
I could be totally wrong, though.

Don't confuse me with facts, now!

That's probably it. But sometimes, he goes after something a long ways off and ignores other critters between him and his target. Like the other day, I was at this area where there's some cows and such in the center field and mobs around the edges. We were killing mobs along one side. After killing one, he darted clear across the field and killed a cow. Didn't pay any notice to all the other cows between him and the cow he killed. Usually, I say "dust cloud" but sometimes.....I wonder.

Most critters will flee when hit. Perhaps the cow he hit ran to the other side. Sounds likely at the very least.

My first rare tame ever was my white bat, and he's still my favorite. I will NEVER get rid of him. I even found a toy bat plushie that was white that I have hanging over my computer. I love how he glides silently next to me when I run, how he always seem to know just what to do in a fight, and how he squeaks angrily when in battle. I also love that he likes to eat fruit. I save all my fruit for him.

I love Scooter
-He doesn't mind when I feed him chilled meat and keep the roasted caribou ribs for myself
-He knows I'd never let him go
-He's been by my side since level 46 (at least 3 years)
-He howls at the moon
-He doesn't protest when I try to make him solo raid bosses
-He doesn't fuss when I put him in the stable to show off my spirit beasts
-Sometimes, he forgets to remind me to turn off growl, and tanks the PuG I'm doing
-He's a wolf
