Yes, you absolutely can tame a tagged mob, but according to two GMs I conversed with, its a bug and reportable. Maybe not on your server. I guess GMs differ from server to server.

I'd report, but they were honestly gone so fast that I barely had the time to blink at them! They simply appeared, tamed and vanished, leaving me to stew in shock. I don't think "a draenei stole Deth a few hours ago!" will make a decent ticket. /glum.
Blizzard really needs to fix Deth's aggro table.

Stables
were finally being sorted out. Found Deth up once again during dailies and couldn't resist another shot. Had the brains to keep him within his own little spawn area and it worked a charm! Very little interference this time- with the exception of two /cheering hunters.
Felt a tad guilty about dropping Solix, but Deth's the spider I was mostly after! Managed to clear up three slots- one for another Swarming Guardian, a wind serpent and the other for Magria!
Then bam. During dailies, was killing elementals and then spotted Skarr. Wasn't really interested in the cat so left him be (after a quick attempt for giggles! I'm BM so I essentially had no chance). There were no hunters in the area which wasn't suprising considering it was 4AM! Was about to leave the kitty alone before I spotted a warrior trying to down him. SHAJFJADLJLAS. NO. NO. NO.
NO. WHY. Warrior died, I flailed into a haste-gust-of-wind and frantically rescued Skarr.
I don't really know what to make of this cat. Haven't tried him out much, but... He doesn't really seem natural. Feel awfully guilty about taming when I wasn't after him- but there was genuinely no one around. So confused! There goes the slots.
I can see it being a pet my character would be terrified of. D:
(And Kirix's rampages are the best. So much fun to watch! The hunter who tamed it managed the good ol' fashioned 'stand, spam deterrence and tame' method, extreme kudos!)
