Halp! Stables are full!

Unread post by Vasken »

I know I'll likely be flamed into oblivion for posting this- but I'm desperately struggling with my main's stables. There's so many pets I love, yet so many more that simply don't fit! After a few accidental tames, they've accidentally became full. Accident, honest! Finding it difficult to decide who stays and goes (the rose-tinted glasses are really coming into play!) and could really, really use an outside opinion. Dying to bring back some older pets and continue the camp for Magria!

Apologies if this is a useless thread! I'm not sure which of these to abandon:

Image (Unnamed), my most recent tame. Found Solix a few minutes before server shutdown last night! People were advertising and forming a group to kill him in /general despite knowing about his lack of loot. Didn't want to see him slaughtered so quickly hopped in there and rescued the poor critter, even though I wasn't even after him. Did check for other hunters, but none were around! While I prefer Deth's colouration... I honestly can't stand to camp the spider due to the sheer amount of griefing that happens around him! Haven't quite formed an opinion about this guy because he's such a recent tame- but he's certainly a nice slice of eye-candy!

Image (Unnamed), another accidental tame. Was up for an hour before I caved in and yoinked him. Haven't thought of a name, but he's stunning. Abandoned Olm for him!

Image Syancra. Rarely use this pet. She's pretty, but I personally find Magria's colouration prettier! Only struggling to abandon her because a friend found her for me (and she's relatively rare)! And if I give up on Magria... I'll be without a shiny cat!

Image Image Image I find these three fantastic to look at! Though I've not used them as much as I should've. There might be the beginnings of a bond forming with them, but I'm not entirely sure.

Image Ragdoll. The model makes me cringe, but... I'm always turning the volume up to listen to the beastie's roars and snarls. They're fantastic! She gets quite a lot of use- despite her bizzare looks.

Image Apple. One of my oldest surviving pets. Had her since BC! I do love her, but... It's almost as if I've grown bored of her. Bring her out occasionally but... It's odd.

Image Shark. Slaughtered the Lich King with this little fellow! Find him so full of personality and life. Even so... I'm almost finding him a tad bland and drab lately. But... The animations! And it's the only tallstrider that matches my hunter.

Image Crook, my favourite carrion bird skin. Adore him, but feel at times he doesn't really match this character. Used to use him all the time, but the interest soon waned. Not sure what to do with him- he's gorgeous, but...

Image Ilubeb. It's another case of adoring her model and colouration, but not quite clicking. Not sure whether a name change is needed to help! She's difficult to find which is likely why I'm wary of abandoning her.

Image Image Lump and Sandbag. Getting on quite well with these two! Really enjoying them and they're in frequent use, but struggling to find a reason to keep two common crocolisk skins!

Image Zhubin. Adore the model, adore everything... But think my inability to think up a name that works is really letting the pet down. Very uneasy about abaonding due to the amount of work it took to grab the fellow!

There's many more, but these are the main ones I keep staring at when struggling with stable woes. I'm a little guilty of hunting for rares when I've got slots reserved for other pets. Sorry again if this thread's a little useless! Can't bear to even attempt Hyjal's dailies without an open stable slot.

My personal suggestion would be to maybe dump some of the spirit beasts that you tamed on a whim, or don't really click with. I would say keep Lump, Sandbag, Shark, and Apple, but then, I'm the overly sentimental type! I still have the first pet I ever tamed "for good" at about level 30.. (I started playing when the game was released, so loooooong time).

You could always make another hunter to rehome the ones that just don't fit with your character. I find the old world rares to be pretty easy to find. I decided sort of on a whim to get Zora to be my 2nd chocolate bug. (I went with the name Nine for my scorpie, and needed someone to take my alternate name, Arrow!) And I found her really fast. I've also seen Old Cliff Jumper several times as well, and... well... I've seen most of the rares up most of the time.

Personally, I'd probably look more at the spirit beasts. As it is right now my only duplicate families are 2 spirit beasts, and 2 cats (both for somewhat sentimental reasons, although if NECESSARY, I could probably drop my Loque :(... maybe try moving him to a different hunter if I can find him up again). But, that's just me. I love some of the new spirit beasts, but I really can't justify having more than 2.. I can hardly justify having 2! heh

Really what Crystalkitten said, keep the ones you've had the longest and if you find yourself having trouble connecting with a pet then rake them to a dungeon or do some dailies with them. Give them a chance to win you over :) I still have my bear that I had tamed at level 47 and I still play with him.

A lot of us are having similar problems with all the new tames.

So here are the things that you need to consider:

1) What creatures do you really want that you do not already have?

2) Do you prefer those creatures to the ones you already have in your stable?

3) Do you really NEED all of the spirit beast out there?

4) Are there any pets on your list right now that you keep out of habit now but never actually use anymore?

Take a look over your pets and see what you can clear out then. If you think you might regret letting go of something that is 'hard to find' then write down their name, model, the date and time that you abandoned them somewhere, thus if you come to regret letting them go, you can have that information for a GM to have them restore it.

I had that problem with some of the newer creatures coming out, and honestly now I'm staring at Magri and Ankha trying to decide if I really need both of them when their eyes bother me, lol.

The ones I would suggest releasing on your first pass would be the crab, wolves, and carrion bird. You could also replace both your crocs with an Uldum color changer.

Definitely would recommend a renaming scroll for your corehound (and parrot - I had to do the same with mine!) and taking your old favorites you're feeling out of touch with for some walks. Sometimes, reconnecting with your old favorites makes it easier to see who else should stay and who you can let go.

It's really funny. I seem to be in the same predicament.
I don't remember taming all these pets, yet my stables are now full!

When I go to release any old pets, I suddenly get qualms and just cannot bear to do it.
Each one suddenly floods me with memories of exactly where I was, and under what circumstances I tamed those pets.

it's sort of silly, since most I won't even bother to go out and quest with.

A bit of palindromic wisdom:
"Step on no pets!"

I love pets - combat or non.

*nodnods to Sukurachi!* It's a hard thing to let them go when they have some sentimental value....and when they ALL do, you're in trouble!

It's funny how name changes can sometimes give a pet new life. They keep their history, but can take on a new personality/vibe, one that clicks better. And other times....it's just not meant to be.

I still have sentimental memories of many of my old pets, including my first ever, Sepulchrave, a Teldrassil owl. Those memories aren't tarnished in any way by the pets not being in my stable any more, as they are still in my heart!

@Crystalkitten: When you find one spirit beast, they tend to multiply quickly. Missing an insane amount of buffs from my stables and the seven spirit beasts I've got in total aren't helping the matter! But thanks for the suggestions, will definitely take a squint at them during dailies later. Struggling to hover the mouse over the abandon button for those you suggested- think they'll stay a tad longer!

And you must have some fantastic luck! Rarely tend to see them up. At least they're relitavely short camps!

Caved in and started to level a hunter, will try to bump a few of the critters onto her. And... Well. I've got duplicate cats, turtles and now crocolisks! It just happens.

Thank'oo, thank'oo!
---------

@Airwyn: Grabbed a handful of 'em ready for dailies! Thanks for the suggestion. Not brave enough to wipe in dungeons yet, however!

--------

@Shade:

1) Magria! A-... Another spirit beast. Also some older pets that I'm missing a little too much. My wolf! The Ulduar kitty. A-... Nothing useful, exactly. And perhaps some to pick up missing buffs.

2) Many of them got more use and I can't fathom why they were even abandoned in the first place. :(

3) NO, BUT THEY'RE PRET- I think the main excuse is that they're 'pretty', definitely. Taking a long, long look at all of them!

4) Use most of the pets (especially those not listed!) but many of the spirits are gathering dust. SPIRITS. PRETTY, BUT DIFFICULT TO ABANDON.

Thanks for the advice, though. I definitely need to print off your post and stick it to the tippy-top of the laptop for when I encounter any other beasties in the wild.

(And Maggy and Ankha are both gorge- It's happening again!)

---

@GormanGhaste: Tried the Uldum colour changer, but it's missing Gorebite's skin! The white and purple are the ones I love the most. Would snaffle it up instantly if it included that skin!

Thanks!

---

@Kalliope: Naming scrolls are get! Now to just... Actually think of some names.

Thanks for the advice though. Ready for dailies!

----

@Sukurachi: That's exactly what's happening here! 25 slots? Plenty of room- Wait. Where'd they all go? It's especially tricky when you've roleplayed with them. The memories! Their characters! Everything!

Thinking about writing everything down about the abandoned pet. Silly- especially considering they're a bunch of loveable pixels- but it may help! :D

---

Think that's everything! To dailies! Can only express a river of thank'ees for the advice! Time to furrow some eyebrows and get thinkin'! And time to boot Floof into the stables, for once.

I'm on the boat of 'try them out in turns' as well. It's how I keep my stable pared down. Every time I do my dailies, I try to bring along a different pet to travel with. It's helped me bond with some of them (Evangelion, my Sambas, was in danger of being released until I found his proper name and did this daily-run), helped me realize I wasn't bonding with others (Mist, my Karoma, and I just never clicked even when doing the daily runs), and even helped me realize that I preferred another of the same skin (I finally had to admit to myself that Terrorpene wasn't the *real* Panzer, and released him to get my old pink turtle back).

Sometimes it's going to be hard to decide, but bringing them out and about will help you re-evaluate the bond. Plus, when you have them out and about, you can get a feel for a more proper 'name' for those who you want to rename, and maybe find your bond with them if you're meant to keep them.
Come see Kurasu's stables!

If you hate Loque's look but love the roars, I got a sound edit that make all cats in game (including feral druids) sound like him. I just love those roars myself but Loque is so damn ugly!

I'm going to second (or whatever) the taking a different pet everyday for dailies etc. It gives them all some fresh air, some time to play and really lets you know if one is working or not.

One thing I enforce with myself is a two spirit beast/hunter rule. They're all so pretty, but I love other types of critters too and would end up releasing a bunch of them anyways. With just two I have to think about it and really decide it I want a new one, rather then let a bunch of old friends go to get the new shiny!

@Kurasu: Have been trying them out and it's suprising how endearing a pet can be when faced with abandonment. Tried a good few of the spirit beasts and they all seem to click, worryingly. Might need to give it another few days!

Must admit, I too tried to replace an old turtle with Terrorpene. Ended up accidentally keeping both of them. They just... Grow on you. Kudos to you for bringing them back!

---

@Wassa: Didn't even know that's possible! Can't get enough of Loque's sounds- having them permanently would be quite an ear-gasm. :O

---

@Kaelys: Have fallen prey to the 'release old friends for shinies'! It's even worse when said spirit-beast grows on you and you've no room to recover the old friends! Well done for keeping only two, though! Really need to learn how to resist the shiny-lure of the spirit beasties here.

---

Have abandoned... No one, so far! 'Shark' seems to match Chromaggus well, but... Goodness. Can't abandon Shark... And... Abdhfdjhaja. A few more dailies are needed, definitely. :D

I can't get rid of any of my pets. If I did, it would be the non-rare sword in the head wolf, but I am afraid that some day Blizz will fix that bug but let people who tamed him before it was fixed keep him the way he is. So for future super-rareness, Ned (the wolf) won't be let go any time soon. I really hate the way Arcturis looks and sounds, but he makes great cannon fodder when I need to kill a pet for some reason, and I camped his spot for almost two weeks. I was disappointed when I finally got him. He was nothing like people made him out to be. Same with Ghostcrawler. I love him because he was made SOLELY for a hunter and is the only spirit beast crab in the game but his looks are really disappointing. He is tiny, does nothing special, and doesn't even make any sounds that I can hear at least. I hate Terrorpene, but he is an excellent tanking pet when I need something to put out there and tank stuff. He even tanked a raid boss to death once when the tank DC'd at 1%, so he's got a place in my stables.

I'd just say....get rid of Loque if you don't like his looks. If you have no emotional/game attachment to him, dump him.

my god

There I was, sitting there with Deth at a tamable amount of health. And SHAZAM, a draenei came out of nowhere just as I was dismissing my pet, spammed tame, magically gained aggro, stole Deth and hearthed. All within the space of ten seconds.

how why what where who why how.

I'm confused. :(

Excuse the pun, but is Deth'tilac bugged?

Normally wouldn't rage so hard- but I abandoned Shark, Zhubin and my ickle demon doggy during the frantic taming process in desperation. Need to petition to get them back all for nothing. /shakesfist. Taming him would've solved a lot of stable issues!

Then drew Floof and ALL WAS WELL.

Image

-------

@Sarantha: Struggling to get some of mine away, too! And originally had most of the glitch tames here, but the novelty eventually wore off. Still, find the sword-face-wolf fantastic! And would honestly say dump the ones you outright dislike in favour of skins you'll like but... I know how tricky that can be. Especially if they're rare. And people really do make the pets out to be amazing. Tamed the spirit beasts after reading a few posts here and eventually exclaimed: "Is that it?". D'oh!

And keeping Loque! A little too attatched to the beasty, despite her looks. In the same boat as you it seems!

DETH IS BUGGED. Report the draenei. She tamed a tapped mob. Which could not be done in any other expansion.

You can tame a tagged pet. I did so when a Mage tagged and pulled down Banny for me. But still, that wasn't nice of the other hunter.
