I know how it is to have a pet die... It's happened to me enough times. My two pet rats died a couple of years ago and I was so upset after that, but to have the most precious cat in your life die when you're only 12 years old is really, really horrible. I didn't go to school for a while because I couldn't stop crying. I don't remember this, but apparently I didn't even speak for a while too.
Why do we get pets when we know that they'll die before us and we know it'll hurt like a bitch?

" 'tis better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all"

sadly, a friend of mine also lost her favourite kitty this week.
a coyote had been spotted in the area, and this afternoon, sadly, she found the remains of her cat on her property.
/cry
I will never let my cats out.
I wouldn't dream of just opening the door and letting my dog run off, why would I do the same with my cats.
Well, to each their own perception of what is right and wrong when it comes to caring for our animal family members.
I don't mean this to sound as though I'm preaching to you. (although, I suspect it will come off that way)
It's just something I feel strongly about, and wanted to share a bit of why I feel the way I do.
I will keep fingers crossed for your lovely friend to return to you safe and sound.

What she said.

We have a litter tray in the house but they'd much rather do their business outside. Plus we don't have any crazy wild animals running around in this country.

I hope you find your kitty soon.
Poor kitty probably misses you like crazy. <3
We adopted a black and white kitty a few months ago, but were told not to let her out at night. I hope everything works out, Kuraine

She's still not home. :/ I'm not sure whether to stop worrying about it completely, because if I continue to worry, I might be worrying forever...

I'm so sorry to hear that:( I hope she comes home, but I can understand how terrible it feels not to know what has happened to her:(
I have once managed to loose my cat in my own flat, it turned out that he was searching for a place to pass out:( I managed to find him just in time to hold him as he passed out ( he was terminally ill then) but I don't think it's the case for your kitty, since she was healthy as I have understood.
Maybe she has found her love, you know, ladies at her age can feel really adventurous when it comes to romance:) maybe she's out there with a stunning Johny Depp cat:)

Something bizarre happened this morning.
My mum told me this morning she'd woken up around 5 AM after a nightmare related to the horror film we'd watched last night. When she woke up, she looked in the mirror, and she saw Poppy sat on the end of the bed, but Poppy wasn't there when she looked at the bed itself. Now, I don't believe in spirits, but I do believe that loved ones will be with you forever, human or not. If my dear Poppy has indeed gone and this was a sign, I want to thank her for telling us and that I'll miss her so very much.
If you're not where I think you might be right now, please come back home to us, we miss you all so dearly...

The last picture of Poppy we ever took, a few weeks before she went away.

I am so sorry your kitty is missing

I know exactly how you feel. I had a beautiful longhaired black cat named Jinx when I was young and my mom put her out one night and we never saw her again. I don't know what happened to her bit I am sure she knew how loved she was. About a year later one of my strictly outdoor cats (we lived in a rural area where having outdoor cats to kill rodents was a must) had kittens, and one of them was a sickly longhaired black cat. I brought her indoors to keep her healthy and safe andshe grew into the beat cat i've ever had... And she was EXACTLY like Jinx in almost every way. It was spooky. I truly believe she had Jinx's spirit.
I hope you find Poppy, and if Poppy has passed on, I hope you get to experience the joy of finding her spirit in another pet one day.

I'm still sending all my positive thoughts out to you and Poppy. I really still hope that she'll come back to you. My best friend's cat disappeared once and was missing half a year. When he came home again he had wounds everywhere and was really thin, but he came back and complained about not having any food around. So still all good luck in the world for Poppy and you
And if she should not return one day, I would take her appearance to your mom as a sign that she's well and wanted to say goodbye to the people she was loved by.

When my grandmother passed away, she had a large property of about 20+ acres of land. On this land she kept a number of cats who came and went as they pleased, and it was never a big issue. Shortly after she had passed away I noticed her absolute favorite cat, T.C. , had gone missing from the house. He was normally an inside cat, but she would let him outside every once in awhile to go on a little adventure. My guess is my grandfather had let him out of the house without thinking about it.
We didnt keep the property shortly after that. About maybe a year. Shortly before we sold the place, I set up a No-Kill/No-Harm Raccoon trap inside of the empty house. It had been a year since I'd seen hide nor hair of this cat...but I figured I owed it to my grandmother to give it one last try before we sold the place. I left the trap there over-night and most of the next following day. That next night I went back to give a quick check before going home, and sure enough...this orange and white and *very* skinny cat was angerly awaiting me. I couldnt even tell it was him at first! I actually had to take him home, and compare pictures of him to match up markings just to be sure. But I'd found her cat at last, after a entire year of him being gone.
So dont ever give up.

That's quite a story, Mychelle!

I am now curious... what happened with T.C. after you found him?
Kuraine - I saw you mentioned that you put notices in your neighbors' mailboxes, but have you posted up flyers aside from that? Particularly in areas a bit further out than you think might be necessary? Cats can travel a LONG way. Did you find out if the vets/shelters would be able to read a foreign chip?

Cats are very resilient creatures, I've heard of even strictly indoor cats going missing for weeks and then turning up again, skinnier but none worse for wear.
Of course, I also know my dad's favorite cat ran away from home when it was time to pass on. Sometimes they do this...I'd like to think it's so you can mourn them over time, rather than all at once, and ease the pain/acceptance a bit.
Whatever Poppy's fate, I hope you guys are reunited - if not in this life, then certainly in what lies after. <3

I'm so, so so sorry you have to go through this hun. I was so sad when my first cat died, I had him with me since I was about 3 years old and he eventually passed when he was about 12 years old. One morning I just woke up, opened the front door and he was dead on the doorstep. I assume that he passed away in his sleep because he was curled up and looked very comfortable..I couldn't tell that he was dead until I bent down to pet him.
But don't give up hope, I know its a 'lil different, but a friend of mine lost his pet tarantula in his house, and found it alive..3 years later, when he was packing up his furnature to move.
