I don't know what to do anymore.

One of my three cats, the eldest, Poppy, has been missing for nearly four weeks now. I'm getting to the stage where I do nothing but stress when I think of her, where she is, where she could be, if she's even still alive... I miss her so much. I cry a lot about it, when I'm on my own. I've never cried this much over anything or anyone. One of my younger cats, Blossom, went missing for a week once. I stressed and stressed even then, but she came home safe and sound and as if nothing had happened. But it's been four weeks and there's no sign of Poppy at all. I put her out one evening, gave them food as normal, and she never came home the next day.

I don't know what to do. I've called every single pet rescue place around here, no one's seen her. I've put posters through people's mailboxes, telling them to look in their sheds or garages to see if she's gotten stuck in there. I've called for her over and over at night. Nothing. I miss her so much. She means the world to me.

Please come home.

Poppy please come home to Kuraine. I lost one of my kitties for a few hours a few months back. I searched my street with flashlights calling her name until I went hoarse. I am so sorry.. I hope she comes back to you. Sending you my thoughts(and my prayers if you'll accept them) that your kitty returns safe and sound to you

*hugs* I am so sorry hun. My pup got out once and I spent a very sleepless night worrying where she might be and if she was ok before I tracked down the person that found her. I know how you are feeling so I hope she finds her way home soon.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts, I really miss her. She's a house cat too, the only time she's ever out is when we put them all out on a night time with some food. Then we suspect they explore all night long, and then return in the morning for more food and then they sleep on my bed all day. And Poppy is so cuddly, she's the only one that likes to sit on my knee for long periods of time and keep my legs warm while I raid. She's such a beautiful cat. But there's one big problem - she doesn't have a collar. We've tried multiple times to give her a collar but she manages to rip them off somehow. She is micro-chipped however, but another problem with that is that it's a Belgian microchip - since we lived in Belgium a few years ago - and never got round to getting it changed. I have no idea if they'll be able to scan her and find the chip in this case, if any rescue place finds her. They might just assume she's a stray...

I can't blame this on anyone but myself. I know it really isn't my fault at all, but sometimes it feels like it is.

I wish you the best luck, and Poppy, too. I really hope she will return or you will be able to find her.
My cat disappeared once when we were on holidays and I felt totally broken. We found her in an animal rescue of our town two days later.

this is very sad.
but it's also one of the reasons I advocate NOT letting cats out of the house freely (there are actually multiple reasons for not doing so).

I really hope your kitty comes home soon.

To other cat owners, consider making your cats "indoor cats".
The big outdoors may SOUND like a nice place for your furry friends, but it's a cruel and dangerous place.
I have two cats, both indoor cats, and very happy.

Poppy is nine years old and has always, always been going outside. This is the first time she's wandered off for a long period of time, and it's not like we live in a place where she can easily get hit by a car or anything like that. We live in a quiet, small culdesac and the streets are only big enough for one car to drive up at a time, stupid really, but it keeps people driving slowly.

And I've always found it cruel to not let a cat out. My ex-boyfriend had house-bound cats, they were fine, but they were used to it. My cats are too old to start doing that to now.

Hey Kuraine, (Seen you a lot on MMO-Camp :p)

I'm really sorry to hear about your cat... I know the feeling, I really really do. My old cat (she passed away a few years ago :( ) Sibil did EXACTLY the same thing. She went missing for weeks and I only imagined the worst of things; I don't need to give examples, I know you're probably wondering about them. *hugs* And one day, she just came back like nothing happened. It had been something crazy, like 2 months. She came back dirty and skinny, but at least she came back. I have no idea what she'd gotten herself into but it was such a relief to see she was ok. I'm really hoping Poppy will come back for you... my cat was elderly too and did the same thing, so it maybe just a little something old cats do, who knows. She will miss her momma soon enough! :P

*big hugs*

If/when she does come home, she'll probably be pretty scruffy and dirty too. As you can see in the picture, she's pretty damn fluffy, and her fur gets tangled if we don't brush it for her.

Once she came home with her fur SO TANGLED, it was a horrid mess, and we couldn't get all the cots out with her fur brushes. We have like three different ones, depending on the seasons. We had to take her to the vet, and all the fur on her underbelly had to be shaved off because it was just far too messy. And she had to be sedated for that to happen... It was so funny and cute at the same time when we took her home, she had to lay down on a carpet since she could barely move, and when she tried to stand up she'd just walk straight into the wall like she was drunk. :P It was so sweet though, cause she would just lay there all calm if we stayed in the room with her, but once we moved into the living room, she would try and follow after us and then try and jump on my knee to sit with me. :) I let her do that after a while, but of course, since she couldn't control herself very well, she peed on me. -.-

And I'll never forget the time she was pregnant and had her kittens... She already knew where she wanted to give birth, in a small upstairs cupboard where we'd put a box of old clothes in the back for her, luckily she picked that and not somewhere stupid like under my bed. And when she was ready to give birth, I was the only one in the house at the time, and Poppy ran down the stairs and stood in front of me where I was on the couch, and meowed at me and tried to make me follow her. So I followed her, she went upstairs, I opened the cupboard door for her and she jumped in her box and lay there. And I knew what she was doing, so I wondered whether to stay with her or not. I thought I should stay with her but I wanted to call my mum about it first, so I went back downstairs to grab my phone and Poppy just followed after me and meowed at me over and over until I came back upstairs and sat with her in the cupboard. It was so lovely to know she wanted me there with her. :)

(Whenever I say 'we', I'm pretty much talking about me and my mum, since we both love her to bits, and my little sister couldn't give a damn about the cats. -.-)

Lets hope she does come back! I really do! 9 years old is not that old mate!
She'll be back my cat Sylvester he's 20 and he's been an outdoor cat all his life. He's gone missing before like when ever we go on a holiday he would dissaper for a week or so but he would allways come back! Most cats do that I mean yeah the older mine got the shorter the time he was gone but he still does it now and he needs help getting on the sofa most days! Most times he wonders off now is when he gets chased by Pukekos!
Our streets full of cats of all sizes and shapes and they are all out door ones then again I've never heard of any one here in New zealand with an indoor cat it's allways seemed like a yank thing :S

So I hope my story as given you that bit more hope that you need to keep on waiting!

Edit: oh she has not been knowen to eat other cats food before? from other houses? My uncles cat went away for 2 weeks found out he was liveing under the next door neighbours house eating their cats food!

Teigan wrote:I'm divided on indoor vs outdoor. In many, many ways its best to keep them in. Safer for them, better for local small mammal and songbird populations (cats are, no pun intended, murder on already struggling songbird populations in many areas). But. Cats LOVE being out. Mine are indoor cats due to where I live, but if I lived in a more rural area or one that wasn't next to a busy street, I would let them out. So, Kuraine, I don't think there is anything wrong with letting your kitties out, given the description of the surroundings. Don't beat yourself up over that, ok? And, even if Poppy went somewhere peaceful to pass on, which they do sometimes, be happy that she had a wonderful, full life with you. But keep your spirits up. Cats can wander off for extended periods of time and come home just fine. :)
Since my cat went walkabouts for 2-ish months, I decided to not let any cat I get from now on outside. I'm just terrified to go through all that worry and crying again. Plus, in my area, a number of cats are going missing all the time and it's usually the pure bred ones. My cat is a pure breed Bengal, I don't want anyone snagging her. :<

It's probably cruel to deprive her of a life outside as well as inside, but it puts my mind at ease, at least. I know where she is all the time.

It seems a lot of cats around here have gone missing too... I joined this Facebook group that deals with missing cats in my area, and there's so many missing ones all of a sudden. I'm so scared that she's been snatched up by someone for being the pretty-kitty that she is... :/ She isn't a pure breed or anything, just a moggy, as is her daughter, of course, but the third of ours is a pure breed British Blue and they're worth around £700 here. Pretty expensive for a cat.

Gosh, yeah that is expensive. :p

I will pray for your cat to get back to you safely. This must be really horrible for you, and I know how it feels. There's nothing any of us can say to make you feel better, other than wish very deeply she is returned to you. :<

You have any idea how much it sucks to have a dream that they find your cat safe and sound and just as you're about to go and pick her up, you wake up and realise it wasn't real? :/

 *hug* Oh god, that's terrible. :( I know exactly how that is...when my cat Dexter passed away I was so traumatized I passed out from grief exhaustion and had a dream that him dying was just a dream, and it was that much worse to wake up after.

I'm still sending lots of positive thoughts and hoping your kitty finds her way home. <3
