Shatterspears do NOT revere birds, just to correct you. Amani's do because they're FOREST trolls. Darkspears, Shatterspears, etc. are Jungle Trolls, split off from the Gurubashi empire. They make a snide comment that "Birds are better left to the Amani". Sandfury's split off from the Gurubashi empire. There isn't much on the Sandfury but IMHO, since they're a jungle troll, it's unlikely they'll like any birds. So getting one if you're RPing goes against their culture and likely your tribe will kill it and eat it. But there really isn't anything defining for Sandfury so you could MAYBE get away with it. But since they've derived from Gurubashi, most assume Sandfury probably wont care for birds. Damn blizz for not completing their damn lore....lol.

You can take a bird if you like, just don't bring it out if you're IC(Ban'thalos is an exception cause he's a spirit beast, not a bird technically). So really keep it in mind. You can always make another hunter to get your birds on if you're dead set on getting the golden bird.

I still think a bird would be fine. Again, there's tons of NEs ICly who have things like silithids or plagued beasts, or orcs with fluffy things that don't make sense. Hell, we can tame a Loa's -mate.- I think an IC bird won't be "HOLYCRAPYOU'REAWFUL" worthy. Seriously.
Still, up to the hunter.

Depends on the server. On Moon Guard and Wyrmrest Accord, I've seen hunters get judged quite harshly on it. Since she's on my main server(Moon Guard), I'm highly advising against it unless she plans to not rp with it.
People get really nitpicky about that sort of thing on rp servers. I just don't want to see her really upset one day because someone whispers her, chewing her out for having a lorebreaking pet. I've had it happen back when I was a n00b hunter. It's not fun, trust me.

Just my two cents here... I think it's safe to assume that the hatred of birds is a cultural thing, not a genetic one. For this reason, and because Blizz is lazy about filling in lore, nobody can say with certainty that it's even LIKELY that Sandfury hate birds because they're descended from Gurubashi. Sandfury culture is clearly very different from Gurubashi culture in many other ways. Why not in this way as well? I'm not saying that Sandfury absolutely don't care. It's perfectly possible that they DO still hate birds. However, if anyone tried to tell the OP that she was playing her troll wrong, she would certainly have ways to fight back against that. It's really up to her judgment.

Since there's enough grey area to justify either position, I'd say that if you want the bird, get it.
Also consider getting a "mummified" bird:

On my realm, Darkspears can get picked on for having birds, but most of us recognize that not every troll of a certain tribe will obey supersticions. Sandfury, however, haven't been near jungle trolls for a very long time and most likely the majority of them wouldn't adopt jungle troll culture anymore. As others have said it really is up to the hunter, even to just oocly have a bird (:
I wouldn't object to my Darkspear having a bird so long as she had reason for it.
Darkspear/jungle trolls don't really seem to -hate- birds, either, the quote was that they believe birds have weak spirits. So it wouldn't be completely out of the ordinary for a hunter to pity a weak animal. Again, all up to you, just tossing ideas out there so you could go either way with your character ^^ If you need help with troll lore don't hesitate to ask, seems like a number people of here have a good grip on troll lore and I've been roleplaying one for quite some time now.

Considering how much we as a community fall back on the 'this pet chose me' story you'd think an unusual pet for a certain race would be less of an issue.
If you want a bird, get a bird. I can't speak for MG anymore(although you're Hordeside, you should be just fine as long as you don't rp a tribal belf raised by trolls or something absurd) but people on WrA have never said anything about my Draenei's unusual pet choices(and back when I was on MG, my Orc's moth was feared and adored, but never hated). Honestly I don't think they care. At the end of the day, Lore or no Lore, anyone who gives you that much grief over a frickin' bird probably isn't decent roleplay material in the first place, especially when it's easily explained by the hunter's personal taste.
That said, Zaricotl is sooo perfect. He's just gorgeous.

Yeah, pretty much this ^^ WrA is pretty laid back in the first place, but who's to say a hunter just likes a certain type of animal? Zui's been known to have some unusual pet choices such as her pink tallstrider or forest bear, but the way I just explain it is that she's a hunter, she reveres all nature. So long as you aren't actually lore breaking, I don't think anyone on MG would really care. If your hunter can find the animal in the first place, she could tame it. c:
'Cept for silithids..I really think silithids for sandfury would be a trainwreck. @_@

This is true, hense why I said it's only likely they still do but I almost fear they may hate on her cause shes a Sandfury troll and according to Cataclysm, Sandfury trolls don't exist anymore or somethin along those lines of being wiped out.
And yeah Silithids is a definite NO WAY for trolls of any kind. XD Thats why I got rid of Lapress on Taluwen, since she lives in Sen'jin. The Darkspears wouldn't like her having one around, despite shes not a troll herself.
As for WrA, since I've been there, I've seen nothin but brutal fights in Trade Chat but then again.....that's trade. Trade is always full of buttholes. On MG, my friend Tabby made a guild called the Tectonic Knights and Trade trolled her HARD for it for some ungodly reason. I told Ash and Tabby to ignore them. Trade is always like that no matter where you go.

I think that stable looks very nice and actually very cohesive. Certainly more thematic than any of mine. XD If it makes you happy, that's the important part!

I haven't seen any evidence that Shatterspear dislike birds, and have seen several people RPing them as revering the eagles...
I found this quest as the ONLY evidence that the
Darkspear dislike bird spirits.
http://www.wowhead.com/quest=9846
Hmm... They seem to be divided between images of a serpent spirit and a bird spirit. No self-respecting Darkspear troll engages in bird worship. Their spirits are weak, capricious, and best left to the Amani.
This sounds more like
Darkspear thing to me, similar to some tribes worship certain Loa and others do not. I mean, until recently, Gonk did not even exist in lore, but apparently he can beat up all the other Animal Loa so they would work together?
As for the Sandfury, mine is more technically a
former one. I always thought it was a bit silly to claim you're an enemy of the Horde (or Alliance) and then walk around in their cities. Khi was born a Sandfury, but is technically no longer a member of the tribe and has not been for a while (possibly pre-Shattering, I'm still working on the details). I have seen some in-character 'racist', which is just fine and expected. Khi herself is a more than a bit untrusting and standoffish to most, including other trolls. I have yet to have anyone outright complain OOC about her choice of tribe, though I admit, I am going a bit 'outside the box' for the fun of it, but I adore desert cultures.

Shatterspear and Darkspear are very close in culture. Again I point to the Jungle Troll thing. Amani are FOREST TROLLS. Thats why the Darkspear, a JUNGLE TROLL, made the comment.

Loas usually stay pretty similar amongst the type of trolls. There's very few differences. But I really need to stress that you can't compare a forest trolls beliefs with a jungle trolls. Those are very different. I've yet to come across any shatterspear revering eagles of any kind unless they got kicked out of their tribe. There are no tameable eagles even in Darkshore, which is where the Shatterspear live.....or any eagles for that matter.
I think it's neat you're rping a bit outside the box.
Though all in all, play whatever you want long as YOU are happy. Don't bend yourself to someones opinion. If they don't like it, oh well.

Idk, I've never seen any proof leaning towards Shatterspear disliking birds as Darkspear do. Darkspear were off on their island for a very long time, and Shatterspear closed themselves off of all contact with others in their Darkshore village, it doesn't seem likely that they would share such a similar culture given their locations.
Also, I forgot to mention: It isn't unusual for specific tribes to have specific culture, such as Zandalari worshipping Zanza, the Bloodscalp having their 3 totemic spirits, Darkspear worshipping Bwonsamedi, etc. So its entirely possible that revering birds is an Amani only thing and disliking birds is a Darkspear only thing.

This is true. Thats why I was saying troll types rather than troll tribes. Usually trolls are still similar pending on what type they are.
But alas, Blizzard, once again, doesn't fill in the lore and leaves the rest of us with many questions.

Silithids are a definite no for my troll!
And thank you all for the input by the way! Both sides have presented good arguments and thoughts, and I do appreciate it! I am a total lore-junkie and I love discussing it. I really do wish Blizzard would fill in more blanks.
I think I am at least gonna try Zaricotl out. I really, really love his skin and this is the first hunter I've had that just really seems to fit his 'desert' feel.

Go for it! I actually just tamed Zaricotl tonight and I'm really liking him. Beautiful skin, I didn't get why everyone liked it until I tried it.

As soon as servers are up, my camp for him begins.

Go for it hun.

Like I said, you can still have him or maybe your tribe didn't like birds but Zaricotl did something to your troll that touched your heart and proved birds aren't weak.
If he doesn't suit you, I recommend Spiteflayer instead if you really want a carrion bird. :3
I saw him up the other day.

Oh, Spiteflayer is rather handsome! I might add him as well when I get high enough. I've actually never tried one of the two-headed vultures before.
