I suspect it's because you can kill Huo just about hourly. There's no instance reset and trash clearing like you get farming most other mounts. I suspect the drop rate is still low, but that it's just a matter of people getting in on a kill multiple times each day.

It seems I have fallen quite far behind with WoW news; is there a chance you can receive the mount with every kill, or can you only receive it on your first kill of the day?

You can get it at any kill. Your first kill of the day just has a better chance. Overall, the more you farm her, the more chances you have.

No problem! Have faith....and a heck of a lot of patience. She will come home.

Mine finally did come home and the funny thing was I all but gave up hope of ever getting it to drop, Huolon was called out as up and I raced off to get there so I could at least get a hit in. Hit him several times then I died so rezzed and back into the fight hit few more times till I again died so I thought screw this not going to keep dying when it wasn't worth it since at the time I figured mount won't drop. I watched the fight and as soon they downed him I rezzed again and looted him saw the flash of purple and thought another timeless armor piece oh well maybe later little did I know till further looking it was the mount. I am now the proud owner of a Thundering Onyx cloud serpent and on all days to get it for today is sweetest day.
