This :) GMs can be really wonderful with what they'll do if you ask nicely, but they'll also be extremely busy when 4.0 lands. Just don't flood them or encourage a rush :)

The pets can wait, in all honesty. If too many hunters go clamoring for restores on patch day, Blizzard may decide "hey, this is just abuse of the system" and say no to everyone.

I'm not saying not to ask eventually. Just wait a few days or weeks so things have a chance to settle down a little.
THIS.if they get flooded and decide to not restore anyones pets, then people who have legitimately lost pets to a GLITCH will be out of luck getting their pets (some of which may be retired/rares) back...

People aren't saying to not report it if pets suddenly disappear from your stables after the patch. Of course report that to get them back as quickly ad possible!

But many people are saying they will petition for pets they already abandoned due to not having enough room and taming different pets. Like me abandoning Loque for Aotona because I didn't have enough room, but now that stables are expanded I ask a gm to give me Loque back.

Personally, as much as I would love to get my abandoned pets back I don't feel it's fair to bother gms with that when it was myself who chose one pet over another to abandon them. Gms have a lot of things to worry about, I will just spend the time and get my abandoned pets back myself.

I'm going to have to agree that people should hold off flooding GMs with requests to get a bunch of old pets back just due to the larger stables.

Unless it's a retired pet you can't get anymore, there's no reason you can't go camp it again. For a long time there weren't many who knew you could petition a GM for a pet restoration, but if hunters everywhere suddenly start pouring in the requests they may decide to stop doing this wonderful service for us.

I understand sometimes there's mistakes or emergencies, but if there's a pet you can get back on your own time with a little camping then I'd recommend doing it that way. :)

But I would have to disagree that only "lazy, stupid" people submit a ticket for a pet restoration request. Oftentimes it's an honest mistake, other times it's a feeling of remorse or regret soon after. I myself abandoned a pet and regretted it a couple weeks later. I did do a ten-hour long camp to get it back, but submitted a ticket at the same time just to see if it would work, and it did. I was neither lazy nor stupid, so I tend to really resent comments like that.

*nods* It's wrong to just throw a blanket statement like that, I agree Rhyela. As I was mentioning, there's honest mistakes that can happen, and you even went and tried to find Loque yourself first. :) That's all I'm suggesting others do. Try finding the pet beforehand, and if worst comes to worst then open a ticket. I just fear there's going to be a lot who try to take advantage of the restoration system due to the ease of it, and I'd hate for Blizzard to think it's being abused and stop doing it in the future.

If i lose my hard won Spirit Wolf.. im gonna freak. But if they are able to return stuff like that, maybe the freakage will be tempered a bit. We will be in for a long wait with a GM for lost pets that you currently have aye? I do agree with that fact that the reso project should be limited to ones you currently have that end up MIA. Camping or gearing up for a pet (even tho it may take a loooooong time) is the sign of a dedicated hunter.

tbh in these dark days of real life with such high jobless we should put pressure on blizzard to hire more gm's i think all players of wow should make a gm post with evry lag spike they get!

I agree with what several others are saying in that please don't flood a GM with you pinning for something you let go of. Something retired yes, as already stated, I could see. But certainly not something like Loque, Gondra, Skoll or something along those lines. Man /woman up, buck up, hush up and start camping it again. After all isn't that why we're called hunters?????

And also everyone needs to keep in mind Blizzard saves EVERYTHING. If not very close to it. I have a character I deleted before WotLK came out and she still shows up on my WoW armory. I could get her back without issue if I wanted to. Pets are also saved so there's no need for screen shotting anything.

The problem isn't reporting that you want a pet back... the problem is getting a GM to answer a ticket about a pet THAT YOU STILL HAVE.

As someone else said... Blizzard has logs of everything... I can ticket a GM and ask him on what day I first broke 1000g and they would probably know the exact minute.

The point is... do not go asking a GM about something that has yet to happen... and I don't care what anyone says... if you get a GM to start chatting with you about something that hasn't happened yet and the GM tells you that he'll keep an eye out so it doesn't happen or log it in the system saying "This customer opened a ticket about a pet he has and he wants us to be aware of the pet he has just in case something happens hunch." Then the GM was lying to you.

Your ticket will be noted and why, but they will not go out of their way to make sure one person's problem is solved IF it happens... unless you are related to them.

This is almost like the story of the little boy who called wolf one too many times. They keep a record on how many times you open a ticket that serves no purpose other than to keep them from other pressing issues.... like when I accidentally dropped my I.W.I.N.button and I missed it so much that I couldn't even log out til I had it back. (Well... not really.) :P

I apologize if I am sounding mean, but waiting 2-3 days for a GM to answer a ticket on a really serious issues stinks.

TL;DR for the thread:

If you lose a current pet due to a glitch from the patch, report it.

If you just want an abandoned pet back, please wait until after the initial rush before ticketing.

1. They'll just respond "No can do, you abandoned it willingly", even the nice ones, because they will simply have too much to do to restore pets for every hunter everywhere.
2. You abandoned them willingly to get another pet. GMs aren't there to serve you whenever you want. You wouldn't call customer support at your computer's manufacturer if you wanted a deleted file back.
If a pet is lost due to a stables bug, and you explain that in detail to the GM, and you are very courteous, I don't see why they wouldn't restore your pet if this bug makes it into live. I've seen worse bugs make it into live, so who knows. :P

I just had my ghostly Hydra restored after having released it over a year ago. I was very kind and up-front about explaining I willingly let it go, but it was the only pet I regret not having now. After some headache of remembering what I had named the Hydra, he's back in my stables and healthy as ever.

I have yet to lose a pet due to the stable bug on the PTR. Maybe it isn't as much as a threat as people think?

If it's lost due to the stable bug, of course you should petition to get it back! :P
My comment was that people shouldn't request back every pet they've ever abandoned.

Indeed. This has been the case for me as well.

Aleu wrote:I doubt that bug will make it onto live as they would have to restore a lot of pets. =P I'm betting it'll be fixed before Tuesday.

I doubt it, the bug's been around for nearly 2 months now, and is still on Beta. It was fixed for about a week, then they uploaded some small "tool patch" that broke it again. The only pet's I've managed to keep were pets I tamed right after the Beta pet wipe. Everything since then vanishes randomly. Sometimes I've had pets for a week, sometimes for an hour.

Also, at lvl 80, you can only have 4 pets in your active roster, the 5th is learned at lvl82. I re-copied my hunter over yesterday and noticed the change. Not sure when this change was made, a bit disappointing though.

I don't have a date on the build, but it was whenever Call Pet was split into five so the pets can be called directly.

I would only ask them to restore a pet if it went missing due to no fault of mine. It would also depend on the pet. If it's not a rare then I will just go re tame another one. If it's loq then I will ask for a restore. Skoll..depends if I'm able to find him again.
