If you identify a piece as "dps" gear and exclude bears from rolling for that reason, you're going to end up with some fairly naked bears. Rogues have to roll against ferals on all of their "dps" armor - actual "tanking" leather ceased to exist by the end of T5 raids in Burning Crusade.

This expansion, Blizzard increased the AP value per point of AGI from 1 to 2, normalized stamina values on items, and introduced reforging, three separate actions that combined to make AGI dps jewelry and capes in most cases better than their STR-based counterparts for bear druids. Bears only have one avoidance rating (dodge) in common with the other tanks and gain very little from STR compared to AGI.

Don't blame "greedy" bears for rolling against you on your "dps" gear, because it very truly is just as much their "tank" gear. Blame Blizzard instead.

I personally have always felt a twinge of guilt rolling against a rogue on leather, but if I let that stop me every time I'd be tanking in my resto gear. The same unfortunately goes for AGI rings, necklaces, and capes (though there's a nice mastery/dodge STR cape from Mt Hyjal exalted that puts pre-raid AGI "dps" cloaks in their place). Hunters and enhancement shamans are just going to have to put up with what rogues have been dealing with for the past 4 years.

Druids need agility on their gear. Anyone who tells you otherwise has been sadly misinformed. If you dislike druids needing on agi/"dps" gear, take it up with Blizz, not the druid. ^_^ Strength is almost as dead a stat for druids as it is for hunters... actually, I'd say it was moreso. The only mitigation they are able to use is dodge (and armour), and agi gives them dodge as well as armour. Druids also rely heavily on the crit they gain from agility as it boosts their damage mitigation. For trinkets it's arguable but most bears will choose stamina/armour/dodge trinkets followed by agiliy and then attack power trinks. *Plays Druid tank also.* So in that case, yep, druid had full rights to need the item.

As for the original situation. That is pretty bad taste. I've asked guildies to roll on things for me if someone is needing it for their offspec/merchant spec, but otherwise if someone needs it for the spec they're currently using... it should go to them, imo.

I to am getting really pissed about the whole "Need" issue in the LFG. Low level or high level shouldnt matter, if the gear drop is not an improvement for YOU, then YOU shouldn't be needing on it. Whether or not your buddy needs it.
The only exception I can thing of is something along the lines of when I run my Bal/resto Druid with my Friend who is also a bal/resto but is clueless about what gear is considered an upgrade. So generally i wait till after everyone else has rolled and if there is no one else who needs it, then i will select need and say in /party <name>, this in an upgrade for you, equipe please.

Running with my friend in the days to come is going to be interesting, I am going to be teaching her how to be a healer...though we will let the group know she is learning to heal, and that I will also be in healer spec/gear to ensure survival, my dps will be lower. Hopefully only having to worry about 5 set targets instead of random changing mobs might be easier for her.

Seriously Bad Behavior.

Happened to me with Heroic Pole arm from COT. kill the boss and he drops, I squeal with excitement, as it's the 1st time I've seen in out of ALOT of runs, but then notice we have a feral druid, oh well thems the breaks. Then the duel wielding DK Tank rolls need, which I guess is ok, until he says he wants for off spec.. what the O_o The pally healer whom is also in the same guild as the DK Tank then rolls need as well. To which I ask.. WTH? She says, oh I'm rolling for my friend too, suck it up or leave the dungeon. The druid calls foul play too but rather than causing to much of a fuss, rolls need none the less. I won the staff thank goodness, and then the rest of the run, fortunately nothing dropped for either of the healer or tank, but I was still disgusted by there behavior.

Koumaru wrote:This quote is entirely false. In every way possible. Strength gives bears all of 2 AP per point. That's it. Agility gives them 2 AP, 0.004105380% dodge, and 0.003078344% crit. Agility dps items typically give greater avoidance through the agility alone than any amount of dodge rating found on a same-level tank piece, and the haste rating can be forged to dodge rating.
I'd have to agree, i'm not too keen on the math but i've always fed my feral druids agility, despite using resil for crit reduction on mobs back in the day, they were leet tanks (As the guild leader, I even used to buy myself resil pots for crit reduction and then main-tank Naxx10 in greens/blues as soon as my druids hit 80. Went great and had a heap of fun! too bad I can't do that now. XD

If you want bad, check this guy out: he ninja'd 2 of my tank drops while he was DPSing in blood presence..

[22:26:55] [Say][E[snip]]: FEL USE FROST INSTEAD OF BLOOD PRESENCE
[22:27:02] [Party][F[snip]]: why?
[22:27:32] [Party][E[snip]]: higher threat for you as a tank
[22:27:42] [Party][F[snip]]: lol, you're living in 3.3.0
[22:28:04] [Party][E[snip]]: oh i guess it's changed?

*He/she continues to DPS in blood presence.*
*Our healer gets fed up and leaves.*
*Moments later.. New healer appears and we start chatting while I tank stuff.*

[22:47:59] [Whisper To][H[snip]]: that dk is dpsing in blood and told me to tank in frost.. LOL
[22:48:55] [Whisper][H[snip]]: he/she is from moon gaurd its to be expected >.>
[22:49:04] [WhisperTo][H[snip]]: LOL yea guess so

Be sure to fend that guy away from your groups with a 10ft pole, if he randomly gets invited then i'd advise to disband the group and create a fresh one to prevent lol-fail contamination from spreading to other group members.

After hearing the things I've heard about your infamous Goldshire Inn on Moon Guard I've begun suspiciously eyeing anyone from that server.

I love Moon Guard for the good roleplay is does have. However, like all servers, theres a flipside to it like a coin. Goldshire is evil but long as you stay far from that disease infested place, you're safe mostly.

A warrior just stole a gun from Rosalyn.

It was an AGIL gun not strength.

I just sat here five minutes thinking someone hadn't rolled and was waiting for it, only to scroll up and see the war stole the god damn gun.

I didn't mind losing the belt that dropped to the Ench shammy. Since the Ench shammy would benefit as much as I would, but an agil gun that would just give what 2% crit atm to a warrior? And oh some lol haste? >_<

Why is it people see the NEED button and think OH I CAN ROLL ON THIS IT IS GOOD FOR ME. On my hunters I find I can roll on EXPERTISE items, along with STRENGTH ITEMS yet.. I don't... >.> .. but he was from Magtheridon it is to be expected :D 80% of the population are idiots and or elitists *facedesk*

@Moore

I also hear Silvermoon city is bad too >.>

It's just the things I've heard about Moon Guard and coupled with the fact I'm currently playing a female priest and I'm a guy IRL. Cause once you roll a female char, EVERYONE wants to be your friend. o_o

Since I'm female and play female toons....trust me....I know. I get it all the time but its not just moon guard. I can be in a random dungeon and my worgen huntress gets flirted with. Though it's amusing more than anything. I'd rather that than have total jackasses.

What battlegroup is Moon Guard in? I play on the Dalaran server, so most of the noobs and crazies in my dungeon finder groups come from ... my own server.

Hey, Taluwen, sorry for my condescending attitude the other day. Looking back I could have been a lot more polite with a little more effort.

I have a second resto druid (my first didn't start healing until lvl 80 so that wasn't I) that I'm using as an experiment to see how well geared he'll be if he levels solely through the dungeon finder. I am finding that until the druid is in the 40s there really isn't much in the way of spell leather. When it does drop I'm all over it (I almost lost once to a rogue who started to complain loudly even after I pointed out that rogues don't need the int) but at lvl 48 the number of leather pieces is only just now outnumbering the cloth pieces. The Satchel of Helpful Goods can't seem to figure out that not everyone wearing leather wants agility. However, if I roll need on cloth I always explain first that I do so because at lower levels spell leather is figuratively a myth and has a drop rate only slightly higher than the phoenix mount.

... which some Worgen has on Trollbane and loves to buzz SW so that players get a half second glimps at it but is already gone when they turn and look.

*sigh*

Moon Guard is Emberstorm. and it's cool. I didnt even notice anyone replied to that til now.

As for bears, maybe I have. I used to be in an all druid guild back in BC and they always said bears use strength. Plus I lost the BoS Cat DPS Staff to a bear in ICC....the one I had been farming for that drops from Festergut. WowHead even said it wasnt a Bear weapon. The bear polearm BoS dropped from Blood Queen.

MeA - It's just me, since I've played a priest and a druid, that if theres someone else thats an actual clothie, I let them have it no matter my spec if they Need on it. If its greed, then I'll roll need on caster stuff. I passed up on agility leather on my hunter in BRD despite it was an upgrade to a rogue. They thanked me for it and said they never saw such kindness before since most hunters roll against them. Karma is in my favor.

TBH, I have no issue with bears going after leathers and agi accessories. What tends to annoy me are the GREEDY cat druids who've stolen str based tanking gear from my sister's tank pally, then proceed to rub it in and gloat.

Not rolling in a spec you're not playing in if someone Needs is classy, at least asking shows you have some manner of consideration, snatching then taunting makes you a Grade A douche.

Uh...I'd like to know what cat druid rolls on plate or strength items.....cause if they do, they're idiots. We dont use strength...ever. If it has no agility, it's not dps kitty gear. Plus pallies use plate.

The way I see it, if it's an upgrade for you and has your main stats for your class/current spec, then by all means need for it. Otherwise it's a greed roll. If a trink/necklace/ring pops up that would be a small upgrade for me but could also get used by another party member that it'd be a huge improvement for, then I'll wait to see if they hit need or not first. If not, then I'll need for it myself, if they do then I'll go greed and let them pick it up. I sometimes will run randoms with my brother who also plays a hunter in my guild, and if agil mail drops and we don't have a dps shammie in the party then he and I can typically settle which of us is going to get the drop. In most cases he will just because he's a fresh 85 and most of the time it's a big improvement for him. The only time I'd ever hit need on a roll for something for him is if there's a healer shammie in the group who goes need for some agil mail for offspec where it'd be a upgrade for my bro. Mainspec > Offspec all the time. Offspec rolls should be a greed roll, never a need if there's someone else in the party who needs the gear for their mainspec.
