I've only asked for a GM to restore my pet once and honestly I was really surprised they did..lol. My mother was trying out WoW on my account and I had Ragabash (skoll) out on Aeriika. She wanted to go to Dalaran (We are on Dial-up) so I told her to dismiss him. She thought I said abandon...well...you know the rest..lol

I've only asked once for a pet restoration and was turned down because it had been "a few months", so it apparently doesn't always work.

That's why you ask again... and be nicer.
I asked for my Arcturis to be restored the GM sent me an email saying "they were looking into it". Looking into what? I told them I purposely abandoned him to get a different pet. What is there to look into....
Well... some time later (30min-1hr or so) Arcturis spawned right in front of me at his spawn point.... luck? Maybe. Maybe not.
Oh, and the last time... I asked to get Loque back and I pleaded and told the "ticket" that I had asked for Arcturis about two weeks earlier and I was able to tame him before I got the second reply back from the GM... a day later I had received a in-game mail informing me that I had Loque in my stables... but the GM had to role-play the whole thing, heh... well.. whatever works.

GMs who RP are more likely to understand the loss of a friend.

(Just sayin'.)

Only pet I had restored was my dear devilsaur. I usually have no problem recamping something and I recently dropped my Loque for an oil stained Worg. The only reason I restored my Devilsaur was because he was King Krush and I didn't want to go through the pain of getting him again. XD GM had no issues with it, but then again, he also camped and tamed Krush.

GMs that roleplay are the best. I had a bug where a disguise wouldn't go away, so I suddenly get an undead guy named Alchemist Sophery spawn in front of me, and start trying various potions. I was like "wtf?" until he explained he was a GM. Then I played along. xD

As has been said it all depends on how you phrase it. If you just 'demand' the pet back and are blunt and rude about it, you most likely won't get the pet back as most people with that attitude, not naming names or anything here, don't really care about the pet and just see it as epeen status.
When I asked for Loque back, I basically explained in my ticket, as best as I was able with the short space you are giving, why I had to abandon Landowar, and then subsequently Skoll and how much I
missed him. Within 15 minutes later I had a nice GM talking with me and Lando returned.
If one GM turns you down that's no reason to not try again; just try and explain how much you miss your pet, and I'm sure it'll be returned.
Landowar had also been abandond for a good few months- it made no difference to the GM. The GM can basically see what you have had tamed ever nearly, and what level you tamed it at and how long it has been this level. I discovered this when I ticketed a bug about my Araga, Grace, on Ryai #3 seemingly losing levels. It was a UI bug- as the GM explained to me that since I had tamed her, Grace had only gone up one level, much to my surprise. My ticket was about a month ago or less, and my pet had been tamed in june/july.
